The tank-liquid systems are represented by means of mechanical models, whereas discrete springs and dashpots stand for the soil beneath the foundations. The proposed model is employed to assess the responses of adjacent circular, cylindrical tanks for harmonic and seismic excitations over wide range of tank proportions and soil conditions. The influence of the number, spatial arrangement of the containers and their distance on the overall system's behavior is addressed. The results indicate that the cross-interaction effects can substantially alter the impulsive components of response of each individual element in a tank farm. The degree of this impact is primarily controlled by the tank proportions and the proximity of the predominant natural frequencies of the shell-liquid-soil systems and the input seismic motion. The group effects should be not a priori disregarded, unless the tanks are founded on shallow soil deposit overlying very stiff material or bedrock.}, language = {en} } @article{ButenwegBursiPaolaccietal.2021, author = {Butenweg, Christoph and Bursi, Oreste S. and Paolacci, Fabrizio and Marinković, Marko and Lanese, Igor and Nardin, Chiara and Quinci, Gianluca}, title = {Seismic performance of an industrial multi-storey frame structure with process equipment subjected to shake table testing}, series = {Engineering Structures}, volume = {243}, journal = {Engineering Structures}, number = {15}, editor = {Yang, J.}, publisher = {Elsevier}, address = {Amsterdam}, issn = {0141-0296}, doi = {10.1016/j.engstruct.2021.112681}, year = {2021}, abstract = {Past earthquakes demonstrated the high vulnerability of industrial facilities equipped with complex process technologies leading to serious damage of process equipment and multiple and simultaneous release of hazardous substances. Nonetheless, current standards for seismic design of industrial facilities are considered inadequate to guarantee proper safety conditions against exceptional events entailing loss of containment and related consequences. On these premises, the SPIF project -Seismic Performance of Multi-Component Systems in Special Risk Industrial Facilities- was proposed within the framework of the European H2020 SERA funding scheme. In detail, the objective of the SPIF project is the investigation of the seismic behaviour of a representative industrial multi-storey frame structure equipped with complex process components by means of shaking table tests. Along this main vein and in a performance-based design perspective, the issues investigated in depth are the interaction between a primary moment resisting frame (MRF) steel structure and secondary process components that influence the performance of the whole system; and a proper check of floor spectra predictions. The evaluation of experimental data clearly shows a favourable performance of the MRF structure, some weaknesses of local details due to the interaction between floor crossbeams and process components and, finally, the overconservatism of current design standards w.r.t. floor spectra predictions.}, language = {en} } @article{HoltschoppenButenwegMeskouris2009, author = {Holtschoppen, Britta and Butenweg, Christoph and Meskouris, Konstantin}, title = {Seismic design of non-structural components in industrial facilities}, series = {International journal of engineering under uncertainty}, volume = {Volume 1}, journal = {International journal of engineering under uncertainty}, issn = {0975-4806}, pages = {1 -- 13}, year = {2009}, language = {en} } @article{SchubaWrona2001, author = {Schuba, Marko and Wrona, Konrad}, title = {Security for Mobile Commerce Applications / Schuba, Marko ; Wrona, Konrad}, pages = {1 -- 8}, year = {2001}, language = {en} } @article{ScheeleOertelBongaertsetal.2013, author = {Scheele, Sandra and Oertel, Dan and Bongaerts, Johannes and Evers, Stefan and Hellmuth, Hendrik and Maurer, Karl-Heinz and Bott, Michael and Freudl, Roland}, title = {Secretory production of an FAD cofactor-containing cytosolic enzyme (sorbitol-xylitol oxidase from Streptomyces coelicolor) using the twin-arginine translocation (Tat) pathway of Corynebacterium glutamicum}, series = {Microbial biotechnology}, journal = {Microbial biotechnology}, publisher = {Wiley-Blackwell}, address = {Oxford}, issn = {1751-7915}, pages = {202 -- 206}, year = {2013}, language = {en} } @article{KrebsbachSchillerBrunneretal.2006, author = {Krebsbach, M. and Schiller, C. and Brunner, D. and G{\"u}nther, G. and Hegglin, M. There are many approaches to realize the industrial scale of BES. One concept is to equip standard bioreactors with static electrodes. However, large installations resulted in a negative influence on various reactor parameters. In this study, we present a new single-chamber BES based on a stirred tank reactor in which the stirrer was replaced by a carbon fiber brush, performing the functions of the working electrode and the stirrer. The reactor is characterized in abiotic studies and electro-fermentations with Clostridium acetobutylicum. The mechanical and electrophysiological parts of the finite element model, as well as their coupling are explained in detail. The model is implemented in the open source finite element code Code_Aster and is employed for the simulation of a thin circular membrane deflected by a monolayer of autonomously beating, circular, thin cardiac tissue. Two cardio-active drugs, S-Bay K8644 and veratridine, are applied in experiments and simulations and are investigated with respect to their chronotropic effects on the tissue. These results demonstrate the potential of coupled micro- and macroscopic electromechanical models of cardiac tissue to be adapted to experimental results at the cellular level. Since the introduction of MRI in the mid-1980s, there has been a continuous trend toward higher static magnetic fields to obtain i.a. a higher signal-to-noise ratio. The step toward ultra-high-field (UHF) MRI at 7 Tesla and higher, however, creates several challenges regarding the homogeneity of the spin excitation RF transmit field and the RF exposure of the subject. In UHF MRI systems, the wavelength of the RF field is in the range of the diameter of the human body, which can result in inhomogeneous spin excitation and local SAR hotspots. To optimize the homogeneity in a region of interest, UHF MRI systems use parallel transmit systems with multiple transmit antennas and time-dependent modulation of the RF signal in the individual transmit channels. Furthermore, SAR increases with increasing field strength, while the SAR limits remain unchanged. Two different approaches to generate the RF transmit field in UHF systems using antenna arrays close and remote to the body are investigated in this letter. Achievable imaging performance is evaluated compared to typical clinical RF transmit systems at lower field strength. The evaluation has been performed under consideration of RF exposure based on local SAR and tissue temperature. In particular, there are uncertainties about how to deal with modifications in the scenarios. In principle, new consulting processes will be required. Since stakeholders differ regarding their preferences and time horizons, we employ a multi-criteria decision analysis approach to identify which stakeholders will support or oppose a transition path. We provide a flexible template for analyzing stakeholder preferences toward transition paths. This flexibility comes from the fact that our multi-criteria decision aid-based approach does not involve intensive empirical work with stakeholders. A large image repository is obtained from about 50,000 m sewers to represent the high variability of real world sewer systems. Automatic image processing combines Canny edge detection, Hough transform for straight lines and cost minimization using Dijkstra's shortest path algorithm. Assuming that flow lines are mostly smoothly connected horizontal structures, piecewise flow line delineation is reduced to a process of selecting adjacent line candidates. Costs are derived from the gap between adjacent candidates and their reliability. A single parameter α enables simple control of the algorithm. The detected flow line may precisely follow the segmented edges (α = 0.0) or minimize gaps at joints (α = 1.0). Both, manual and ground truth-based analysis indicate that α = 0.8 is optimal and independent of the sewer's material. The interdisciplinary approach is shown using the complex example of an automated, large scale, industrial environment: a typical automotive wind tunnel application. Both the high degree of flexibility in choosing the measurement region and the complete automation of stereo PIV measurements are presented. The setup consists of a combination of three robots, individually used as a 6D traversing unit for the laser illumination system as well as for each of the two cameras. Synchronised movements in the same reference frame are realised through a master-slave setup with a single interface to the user. By integrating the interface into the standard wind tunnel management system, a single measurement plane or a predefined sequence of several planes can be requested through a single trigger event, providing the resulting vector fields within minutes. In this paper, a brief overview on the demands of large scale industrial PIV and the existing solutions is given. Afterwards, the concept of RoboPIV is introduced as a new approach. In a first step, the usability of a selection of commercially available robot arms is analysed. The challenges of pose uncertainty and importance of absolute accuracy are demonstrated through comparative measurements, explaining the individual pros and cons of the analysed systems. Subsequently, the advantage of integrating RoboPIV directly into the existing wind tunnel management system is shown on basis of a typical measurement sequence. In a final step, a practical measurement procedure, including post-processing, is given by using real data and results. Ultimately, the benefits of high automation are demonstrated, leading to a drastic reduction in necessary measurement time compared to non-automated systems, thus massively increasing the efficiency of PIV measurements.}, language = {en} } @article{FerreinSteinbauerMcPhillipsetal.2008, author = {Ferrein, Alexander and Steinbauer, Gerald and McPhillips, Graeme and Potgieter, Anet}, title = {RoboCup Standard Platform League - Team Zadeat : an intercontinental research effort}, pages = {1 -- 7}, year = {2008}, language = {en} } @article{FerreinMaraisPotgieteretal.2011, author = {Ferrein, Alexander and Marais, Stephen and Potgieter, Anet and Steinbauer, Gerald}, title = {RoboCup Junior: A vehicle for S\&T education in Africa?}, publisher = {IEEE}, address = {New York}, isbn = {978-1-61284-992-8}, pages = {1 -- 6}, year = {2011}, language = {en} } @article{Fabo1992, author = {Fabo, Sabine}, title = {Roaratorio : John Cage}, series = {Diagonal : Zeitschrift der Universit{\"a}t Siegen}, volume = {4(1992)}, journal = {Diagonal : Zeitschrift der Universit{\"a}t Siegen}, number = {Heft "Experimente"}, address = {Siegen}, isbn = {0938-7161}, pages = {201 -- 210}, year = {1992}, language = {de} } @article{WiegandDietrichHerteletal.2013, author = {Wiegand, Sandra and Dietrich, Sascha and Hertel, Robert and Bongaerts, Johannes and Evers, Stefan and Volland, Sonja and Daniel, Rolf and Liesegang, Heiko}, title = {RNA-Seq of Bacillus licheniformis: active regulatory RNA features expressed within a productive fermentation}, series = {BMC genomics}, volume = {Vol. 14}, journal = {BMC genomics}, publisher = {BioMed Central}, address = {London}, issn = {1471-2164}, pages = {667}, year = {2013}, language = {en} } @article{Pietsch1999, author = {Pietsch, Wolfram}, title = {Risk-based Deployment of Standard Software Rollout Processes - a pragmatic approach}, series = {QFD : transactions from the Eleventh Symposium on Quality Function Deployment, [June 12 - 18, 1999, Novi, Michigan] / QFD Institute}, journal = {QFD : transactions from the Eleventh Symposium on Quality Function Deployment, [June 12 - 18, 1999, Novi, Michigan] / QFD Institute}, publisher = {QFD Institute}, address = {Ann Arbor, Mich.}, isbn = {1889477117}, pages = {349 -- 359}, year = {1999}, language = {en} } @article{SchlieperBrandenburgDjuricetal.2009, author = {Schlieper, G. and Brandenburg, V. and Djuric, Z. and Damjanovic, T. and Markovic, N. and Schurgers, L. and Kr{\"u}ger, T. and Westenfeld, R. and Ackermann, D. and Haselhuhn, Angelika and Dimkovic, S. and Ketteler, M. and Floege, J. and Dimkovic, N.}, title = {Risk factors for cardiovascular calcifications in non-diabetic Caucasian haemodialysis patients}, series = {Kidney \& blood pressure research}, volume = {Vol. 32}, journal = {Kidney \& blood pressure research}, issn = {1423-0143 (E-Journal); 0378-5858 (Print); 1011-6524 (Print); 1420-4096 (Print)}, pages = {161 -- 168}, year = {2009}, language = {en} } @article{ThielemannLuedtke2000, author = {Thielemann, Frank and L{\"u}dtke, C.}, title = {Risikomanagement - Aufbau eines Fr{\"u}hwarnsystems}, series = {Wirtschafts-Nachrichten. 45 (2000), H. 12}, journal = {Wirtschafts-Nachrichten. 45 (2000), H. 12}, isbn = {1436-5588}, pages = {14 -- ff}, year = {2000}, language = {de} } @article{BaltzerRiepeMerz2001, author = {Baltzer, Wolfgang and Riepe, Werner and Merz, Hans}, title = {Risikoanalyse zum Transport gef{\"a}hrlicher G{\"u}ter durch Straßentunnel - Abw{\"a}gungsprozesse im Internationalen Vergleich}, series = {Unterirdisches Bauen 2001 : Wege in die Zukunft ; Vortr{\"a}ge der STUVA-Tagung 2001 in M{\"u}nchen / veranst. von der Studiengesellschaft f{\"u}r Unterirdische Verkehrsanlagen e.V., (STUVA), K{\"o}ln}, journal = {Unterirdisches Bauen 2001 : Wege in die Zukunft ; Vortr{\"a}ge der STUVA-Tagung 2001 in M{\"u}nchen / veranst. von der Studiengesellschaft f{\"u}r Unterirdische Verkehrsanlagen e.V., (STUVA), K{\"o}ln}, publisher = {Bertelsmann}, address = {G{\"u}tersloh}, isbn = {3-9803390-7-6}, pages = {204 -- 211}, year = {2001}, language = {de} } @article{Wolf2003, author = {Wolf, Martin R.}, title = {Risiko- und Maßnahmenmanagement bei der Computervalidierung}, series = {Pharma-Technologie-Journal (2003)}, journal = {Pharma-Technologie-Journal (2003)}, publisher = {-}, isbn = {0931-9700}, pages = {50 -- 62}, year = {2003}, language = {de} } @article{SammFaissnerHeinrigsetal.1983, author = {Samm, Doris and Faissner, H. and Heinrigs, W. and Latsch, C.}, title = {Richtungsselektive Z{\"a}hleranordnung zur Messung der Masse Axion-{\"a}hnlicher Teilchen / Faissner, H. ; Heinrigs, W. ; Latsch, C.; Preussger, A.; Samm, D.}, series = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft. 18 (1983), H. 6}, journal = {Verhandlungen der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft. 18 (1983), H. 6}, pages = {1213 -- 1213}, year = {1983}, language = {de} } @article{Hillen1980, author = {Hillen, Walter}, title = {RHO-RHO production by two photon scattering. This strain is crucial for mechanically controlling the cell shape, function and survival. In this study, the CellDrum technology quantifying cell's (the cellular) mechanical tension on a pico-scale was used to investigate the effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on human aortic endothelial cell (HAoEC) tension. The LPS effect during gram-negative sepsis on endothelial cells is cell contraction causing endothelium permeability increase. The aim was to finding out whether recombinant activated protein C (rhAPC) would reverse the endothelial cell response in an in-vitro sepsis model. In this study, the established in-vitro sepsis model was confirmed by interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels at the proteomic and genomic levels by ELISA, real time-PCR and reactive oxygen species (ROS) activation by florescence staining. The thrombin cellular contraction effect on endothelial cells was used as a positive control when the CellDrum technology was applied. Additionally, the Ras homolog gene family, member A (RhoA) mRNA expression level was checked by real time-PCR to support contractile tension results. According to contractile tension results, the mechanical predominance of actin stress fibers was a reason of the increased endothelial contractile tension leading to enhanced endothelium contractility and thus permeability enhancement. The originality of this data supports firstly the basic measurement principles of the CellDrum technology and secondly that rhAPC has a beneficial effect on sepsis influenced cellular tension. The technology presented here is promising for future high-throughput cellular tension analysis that will help identify pathological contractile tension responses of cells and prove further cell in-vitro models.}, language = {en} }
