Sie sind sowohl im Kontext der Architektur als Fassadenverkleidung anwendbar als auch im Innenbereich als Wandverkleidung. Die F{\"a}higkeit von Sch{\"o}nheit, unsere Umgebung zu transformieren, nimmt eine leitende Rolle in dieser Arbeit ein. Als Inspirationsquelle f{\"u}r die Entw{\"u}rfe dienten Dinge, die dem allgemeinen Sch{\"o}nheitsempfinden entsprechen: Wasser, Bl{\"u}ten, der Himmel und andere Naturph{\"a}nomene. Diese wurden abstrahiert, in Reliefs {\"u}bersetzt und in drei unterschiedliche Module weiterentwickelt. Sie sind konzeptionell frei skalierbar und wurden in Kleinserie im Gussverfahren prototypisiert. Mit „ADIE" sollte auf die Funktion von Sch{\"o}nheit im Design Bezug genommen werden und etwas entstehen, das einfach „nur" sch{\"o}n ist.},

  abstract  = {Bacterial lipopolysaccharides (endotoxins) show strong biological effects at very low concentrations in human beings and many animals when entering the blood stream. These include affecting structure and function of organs and cells, changing metabolic functions, raising body temperature, triggering the coagulation cascade, modifying hemodynamics and causing septic shock. Because of this toxicity, the removal of even minute amounts is essential for safe parenteral administration of drugs and also for septic shock patients' care. The absence of a general method for endotoxin removal from liquid interfaces urgently requires finding new methods and materials to overcome this gap. Nanostructured carbonized plant parts is a promising material that showed good adsorption properties due to its vast pore network and high surface area. The aim of this study was comparative measurement of endotoxin- and blood proteins-related adsorption rate and adsorption capacity for different carboneous materials produced at different temperatures and under different surface modifications. As a main surface modificator, positively cbarged polymer, polyethileneimine (PEl) was used. Activated carbon materials showed good adsorption properties for LPS and some proteins used in the experiments. During the batch experiments, several techniques (dust removal, autoclaving) were used and optimized for improving the material's adsorption behavior. Also, with the results obtained it was possible to differentiate the materials according to their adsorption capacity and kinetic characteristics. Modification of the surface apparently has not affected hemoglobin binding to the adsorbent's surface. Obtained adsorption isotherms can be used as a powerful tool for designing of future column-based setups for blood purification from LPS, which is especially important for septic shock treatment.},

  abstract  = {Sleep spindles are neurophysiological phenomena that appear to be linked to memory formation and other functions of the central nervous system, and that can be observed in electroencephalographic recordings (EEG) during sleep. Manually identified spindle annotations in EEG recordings suffer from substantial intra- and inter-rater variability, even if raters have been highly trained, which reduces the reliability of spindle measures as a research and diagnostic tool. The Massive Online Data Annotation (MODA) project has recently addressed this problem by forming a consensus from multiple such rating experts, thus providing a corpus of spindle annotations of enhanced quality. Based on this dataset, we present a U-Net-type deep neural network model to automatically detect sleep spindles. Our model's performance exceeds that of the state-of-the-art detector and of most experts in the MODA dataset. We observed improved detection accuracy in subjects of all ages, including older individuals whose spindles are particularly challenging to detect reliably. Our results underline the potential of automated methods to do repetitive cumbersome tasks with super-human performance.},

  abstract  = {Extension fractures are typical for the deformation under low or no confining pressure. They can be explained by a phenomenological extension strain failure criterion. In the past, a simple empirical criterion for fracture initiation in brittle rock has been developed. In this article, it is shown that the simple extension strain criterion makes unrealistic strength predictions in biaxial compression and tension. To overcome this major limitation, a new extension strain criterion is proposed by adding a weighted principal shear component to the simple criterion. The shear weight is chosen, such that the enriched extension strain criterion represents the same failure surface as the Mohr-Coulomb (MC) criterion. Thus, the MC criterion has been derived as an extension strain criterion predicting extension failure modes, which are unexpected in the classical understanding of the failure of cohesive-frictional materials. In progressive damage of rock, the most likely fracture direction is orthogonal to the maximum extension strain leading to dilatancy. The enriched extension strain criterion is proposed as a threshold surface for crack initiation CI and crack damage CD and as a failure surface at peak stress CP. Different from compressive loading, tensile loading requires only a limited number of critical cracks to cause failure. Therefore, for tensile stresses, the failure criteria must be modified somehow, possibly by a cut-off corresponding to the CI stress. Examples show that the enriched extension strain criterion predicts much lower volumes of damaged rock mass compared to the simple extension strain criterion.},

  abstract  = {This study investigated the anaerobic digestion of an algal-bacterial biofilm grown in artificial wastewater in an Algal Turf Scrubber (ATS). The ATS system was located in a greenhouse (50°54′19ʺN, 6°24′55ʺE, Germany) and was exposed to seasonal conditions during the experiment period. The methane (CH4) potential of untreated algal-bacterial biofilm (UAB) and thermally pretreated biofilm (PAB) using different microbial inocula was determined by anaerobic batch fermentation. Methane productivity of UAB differed significantly between microbial inocula of digested wastepaper, a mixture of manure and maize silage, anaerobic sewage sludge, and percolated green waste. UAB using sewage sludge as inoculum showed the highest methane productivity. The share of methane in biogas was dependent on inoculum. Using PAB, a strong positive impact on methane productivity was identified for the digested wastepaper (116.4\%) and a mixture of manure and maize silage (107.4\%) inocula. By contrast, the methane yield was significantly reduced for the digested anaerobic sewage sludge (50.6\%) and percolated green waste (43.5\%) inocula. To further evaluate the potential of algal-bacterial biofilm for biogas production in wastewater treatment and biogas plants in a circular bioeconomy, scale-up calculations were conducted. It was found that a 0.116 km2 ATS would be required in an average municipal wastewater treatment plant which can be viewed as problematic in terms of space consumption. However, a substantial amount of energy surplus (4.7-12.5 MWh a-1) can be gained through the addition of algal-bacterial biomass to the anaerobic digester of a municipal wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater treatment and subsequent energy production through algae show dominancy over conventional technologies.},

Mit freundlicher Genehmigung des Verlags Zusammenfassung: Auf der Basis von Patientenabfragen mittels Fragebogen zum Schmerzempfinden und zur Einschr{\"a}nkung bei Aktivit{\"a}ten des allt{\"a}glichen Lebens wird die Langzeitwirkung der MBST® KernspinResonanz-Therapie bei Gonarthrose untersucht. An der Studie nahmen 39 Patienten teil, bei denen die Therapie bis zu vier Jahre zur{\"u}ckliegt. Neben einer Gesamtbetrachtung wird der Erfolg auch in Abh{\"a}ngigkeit von Alter, Geschlecht und sportlicher Aktivit{\"a}t analysiert. Insgesamt weist die Studie auf eine anhaltende Verbesserung des Gesundheitszustands mit zum Teil deutlicher Schmerzlinderung auch noch nach vier Jahren hin, jedoch mit einer leichten Schmerzzunahme gegen Ende des Untersuchungszeitraums von vier Jahren. Eine tendenziell positivere Wirkung bei Frauen, {\"a}lteren Menschen oder auch sportlich nicht-aktiven Patienten l{\"a}sst auf eine m{\"o}gliche Beeinflussung des Erfolgs der Therapie durch ({\"U}ber-)Belastung im Alltag schließen. Ein zus{\"a}tzlich positiver Effekt der Therapie auf die Knochendichte ist ebenfalls denkbar, dies bleibt jedoch offen.},

  abstract  = {This study analyses the expected utilization of an urban distribution grid under high penetration of photovoltaic and e-mobility with charging infrastructure on a residential level. The grid utilization and the corresponding power flow are evaluated, while varying the control strategies and photovoltaic installed capacity in different scenarios. Four scenarios are used to analyze the impact of e-mobility. The individual mobility demand is modelled based on the largest German studies on mobility "Mobilit{\"a}t in Deutschland", which is carried out every 5 years. To estimate the ramp-up of photovoltaic generation, a potential analysis of the roof surfaces in the supply area is carried out via an evaluation of an open solar potential study. The photovoltaic feed-in time series is derived individually for each installed system in a resolution of 15 min. The residential consumption is estimated using historical smart meter data, which are collected in London between 2012 and 2014. For a realistic charging demand, each residential household decides daily on the state of charge if their vehicle requires to be charged. The resulting charging time series depends on the underlying behavior scenario. Market prices and mobility demand are therefore used as scenario input parameters for a utility function based on the current state of charge to model individual behavior. The aggregated electricity demand is the starting point of the power flow calculation. The evaluation is carried out for an urban region with approximately 3100 residents. The analysis shows that increased penetration of photovoltaics combined with a flexible and adaptive charging strategy can maximize PV usage and reduce the need for congestion-related intervention by the grid operator by reducing the amount of kWh charged from the grid by 30\% which reduces the average price of a charged kWh by 35\% to 14 ct/kWh from 21.8 ct/kWh without PV optimization. The resulting grid congestions are managed by implementing an intelligent price or control signal. The analysis took place using data from a real German grid with 10 subgrids. The entire software can be adapted for the analysis of different distribution grids and is publicly available as an open-source software library on GitHub.},

Ungef{\"a}hr die H{\"a}lfte aller Erstsemester hat weniger als 25 Punkte im Eingangstest. Weniger als 20 \% dieser Gruppe bestehen innerhalb eines Jahres die Klausur Mathematik 1. Die investierte Zeit von zwei Semestern ist mit Blick auf den Wissenszuwachs und damit letztendlich den Studienerfolg nicht effizient genutzt. Deshalb haben wir im WS 2013/14 einen semesterbegleitenden Anpassungskurs f{\"u}r diese Gruppe installiert. Ziel eines solchen Kurses ist es, die Student/innen innerhalb eines Jahres in die Lage zu versetzen, nach zwei Semestern problemlos den Vorlesungen in Mathematik zu folgen. Dieser Artikel beschreibt das Konzept dieses Anpassungskurses und zeigt erste Ergebnisse und Probleme des Pilotdurchgangs auf.},

Aeroux versucht diese Assoziation zu {\"u}berwinden und Luftschiffe in der Gegenwart zu verankern. Durch die gezielte, psychologisch inspirierte Gestaltung soll Sicherheit und Ruhe vermittelt werden, sollen spezifische Assoziationen geweckt werden, die weg f{\"u}hren von Bildern vergangener Tage eines brennenden Luftschiffs, um so Zeppeline als klimafreundlichere Alternative zum Flugzeug wieder ins Spiel zu bringen. Aeroux ist ein hybrides Verkehrsmittel, dass in der Lage ist, sowohl G{\"u}ter als auch Personen in verschiedenen Szenarien zu transportieren. Zeppeline bauchen keine befestigten Landebahnen oder Pisten. Regionen, die {\"u}ber Straßen schwer zug{\"a}nglich sind, k{\"o}nnen so in den Warenhandel integriert werden. Gleichermaßen k{\"o}nnen aber auch Meschen in Regionen bef{\"o}rdert werden, die durch Straßen oder Landebahnen nicht oder unzureichend erschlossen sind. Dar{\"u}ber hinaus kann Aeroux ein Ansatz sein die Unvertr{\"a}glichkeit von Fliegen und Klimaschutz aufzul{\"o}sen. Nicht zuletzt liegt in der gem{\"a}chlichen Art der Bewegung ein besonderer Zauber. Reisen k{\"o}nnten einen neuen Charakter erhalten: durch die großen Fensterfronten und die geringe Flugh{\"o}he k{\"o}nnen Landschaften auf der Reise neu wahrgenommen werden, der Weg wird wieder Teil des Reisens. Die Arbeit ist in erster Linie eine Auseinandersetzung mit der Form. Wie wirkt Form, wie lassen sich Assoziationen wecken, lenken, leiten. Wie kann technischer Anspruch, gesellschaftliche Bedingung, {\"o}kologisches Bewusstsein und nicht zuletzt Genuss in einem Objekt resultieren. Digitale und analoge Fertigung spielen im Zuge der Arbeit ineinander. So entstand das Design der Gondel, nach ersten h{\"a}ndischen Skizzen, digital. Das Model der Gondel wurde aus diesen Daten 3D gedruckt und die Darstellung der Tragh{\"u}lle ebenfalls auf Grundlage dieser Daten gelasert.   abstract  = {Reliable automation of the labor-intensive manual task of scoring animal sleep can facilitate the analysis of long-term sleep studies. In recent years, deep-learning-based systems, which learn optimal features from the data, increased scoring accuracies for the classical sleep stages of Wake, REM, and Non-REM. Meanwhile, it has been recognized that the statistics of transitional stages such as pre-REM, found between Non-REM and REM, may hold additional insight into the physiology of sleep and are now under vivid investigation. We propose a classification system based on a simple neural network architecture that scores the classical stages as well as pre-REM sleep in mice. When restricted to the classical stages, the optimized network showed state-of-the-art classification performance with an out-of-sample F1 score of 0.95 in male C57BL/6J mice. When unrestricted, the network showed lower F1 scores on pre-REM (0.5) compared to the classical stages. The result is comparable to previous attempts to score transitional stages in other species such as transition sleep in rats or N1 sleep in humans. Nevertheless, we observed that the sequence of predictions including pre-REM typically transitioned from Non-REM to REM reflecting sleep dynamics observed by human scorers. Our findings provide further evidence for the difficulty of scoring transitional sleep stages, likely because such stages of sleep are under-represented in typical data sets or show large inter-scorer variability. We further provide our source code and an online platform to run predictions with our trained network.},

Therefore, the automotive and classical aircraft design process is reviewed and compared to highlight advantages for eVTOL development. A special focus is on ergonomic comfort and safety. The need for further investigation of eVTOL's crashworthiness is outlined by, first, specifying the relevance of passive safety via accident statistics and customer perception analysis; second, comparing the current state of regulation and certification; and third, discussing the advantages of integral safety and applying the automotive safety approach for eVTOL development. Integral safety links active and passive safety, while the automotive safety approach means implementing standardized mandatory full-vehicle crash tests for future eVTOL. Subsequently, possible crash impact conditions are analyzed, and three full-vehicle crash load cases are presented.},

Die chronologisch aufgebaute Ausstellung gliedert sich in sechs Zeitepochen, von der Urzeit bis hin zur Jetztzeit. Diese sind farblich und typografisch so gestaltet, dass sie den Besuchenden eine optimale Orientierung bieten. Hierbei f{\"u}gen sich einige gestalterische Elemente zusammen, wie plakative Tierillustrationen, die Themeninhalte untermalen, Waldkulissen und auditive Elemente, die eine Raumatmosph{\"a}re bilden.   abstract  = {In this work, the effects of carbon sources and culture media on the production and structural properties of bacterial cellulose (BC) synthesized by Medusomyces gisevii have been studied. The culture medium was composed of different initial concentrations of glucose or sucrose dissolved in 0.4\% extract of plain green tea. Parameters of the culture media (titratable acidity, substrate conversion degree etc.) were monitored daily for 20 days of cultivation. The BC pellicles produced on different carbon sources were characterized in terms of biomass yield, crystallinity and morphology by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Our results showed that Medusomyces gisevii had higher BC yields in media with sugar concentrations close to 10 g L-1 after a 18-20 days incubation period. Glucose in general lead to a higher BC yield (173 g L-1) compared to sucrose (163.5 g L-1). The BC crystallinity degree and surface roughness were higher in the samples synthetized from sucrose. Obtained FE-SEM micrographs show that the BC pellicles synthesized in the sucrose media contained densely packed tangles of cellulose fibrils whereas the BC produced in the glucose media displayed rather linear geometry of the BC fibrils without noticeable aggregates.},

Apollon erm{\"o}glicht Menschen mit starker Sehbehinderung die Orientierung w{\"a}hrend des Kletterns, indem es einerseits Informationen vermittelt, die normalerweise nur visuell wahrgenommen werden k{\"o}nnen und andererseits dabei hilft, sich besser an bereits gekletterte Routen zu erinnern. Das System setzt sich aus 3 Komponenten zusammen. Die Tritthilfen helfen der blinden Person dabei, auch kleine Tritte zu finden. Die taktilen Wegmarken stellen eine Art Checkpoint dar und helfen der blinden Person dabei, die Route in mehrere Abschnitte zu unterteilen. Gleichzeitig weisen sie darauf hin, welches Feature die kletternde Person erwartet. Die taktile Karte ist modular aufgebaut und setzt sich aus einer Legende und den Repr{\"a}sentanten der Wegmarken einer Route zusammen. Analog zu dem Betrachten der Route ist die blinde Person so vor dem Klettern in der Lage, Informationen {\"u}ber die Route zu erfahren.},

  abstract  = {Obstacle avoidance is critical for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) operating autonomously. Obstacle avoidance algorithms either rely on global environment data or local sensor data. Local path planners react to unforeseen objects and plan purely on local sensor information. Similarly, animals need to find feasible paths based on local information about their surroundings. Therefore, their behavior is a valuable source of inspiration for path planning. Bumblebees tend to fly vertically over far-away obstacles and horizontally around close ones, implying two zones for different flight strategies depending on the distance to obstacles. This work enhances the local path planner 3DVFH* with this bio-inspired strategy. The algorithm alters the goal-driven function of the 3DVFH* to climb-preferring if obstacles are far away. Prior experiments with bumblebees led to two definitions of flight zone limits depending on the distance to obstacles, leading to two algorithm variants. Both variants reduce the probability of not reaching the goal of a 3DVFH* implementation in Matlab/Simulink. The best variant, 3DVFH*b-b, reduces this probability from 70.7 to 18.6\% in city-like worlds using a strong vertical evasion strategy. Energy consumption is higher, and flight paths are longer compared to the algorithm version with pronounced horizontal evasion tendency. A parameter study analyzes the effect of different weighting factors in the cost function. The best parameter combination shows a failure probability of 6.9\% in city-like worlds and reduces energy consumption by 28\%. Our findings demonstrate the potential of bio-inspired approaches for improving the performance of local path planning algorithms for UAV.},

  abstract  = {Subtilisins from microbial sources, especially from the Bacillaceae family, are of particular interest for biotechnological applications and serve the currently growing enzyme market as efficient and novel biocatalysts. Biotechnological applications include use in detergents, cosmetics, leather processing, wastewater treatment and pharmaceuticals. To identify a possible candidate for the enzyme market, here we cloned the gene of the subtilisin SPFA from Fictibacillus arsenicus DSM 15822ᵀ (obtained through a data mining-based search) and expressed it in Bacillus subtilis DB104. After production and purification, the protease showed a molecular mass of 27.57 kDa and a pI of 5.8. SPFA displayed hydrolytic activity at a temperature optimum of 80 °C and a very broad pH optimum between 8.5 and 11.5, with high activity up to pH 12.5. SPFA displayed no NaCl dependence but a high NaCl tolerance, with decreasing activity up to concentrations of 5 m NaCl. The stability enhanced with increasing NaCl concentration. Based on its substrate preference for 10 synthetic peptide 4-nitroanilide substrates with three or four amino acids and its phylogenetic classification, SPFA can be assigned to the subgroup of true subtilisins. Moreover, SPFA exhibited high tolerance to 5\% (w/v) SDS and 5\% H₂O₂ (v/v). The biochemical properties of SPFA, especially its tolerance of remarkably high pH, SDS and H₂O₂, suggest it has potential for biotechnological applications.},

  abstract  = {Halophilic and halotolerant microorganisms represent a promising source of salt-tolerant enzymes suitable for various biotechnological applications where high salt concentrations would otherwise limit enzymatic activity. Considering the current growing enzyme market and the need for more efficient and new biocatalysts, the present study aimed at the characterization of a high-alkaline subtilisin from Alkalihalobacillus okhensis Kh10-101T. The protease gene was cloned and expressed in Bacillus subtilis DB104. The recombinant protease SPAO with 269 amino acids belongs to the subfamily of high-alkaline subtilisins. The biochemical characteristics of purified SPAO were analyzed in comparison with subtilisin Carlsberg, Savinase, and BPN'. SPAO, a monomer with a molecular mass of 27.1 kDa, was active over a wide range of pH 6.0-12.0 and temperature 20-80 °C, optimally at pH 9.0-9.5 and 55 °C. The protease is highly oxidatively stable to hydrogen peroxide and retained 58\% of residual activity when incubated at 10 °C with 5\% (v/v) H2O2 for 1 h while stimulated at 1\% (v/v) H2O2. Furthermore, SPAO was very stable and active at NaCl concentrations up to 5.0 m. This study demonstrates the potential of SPAO for biotechnological applications in the future.},

Biological Cocoon ist - basierend auf neuestem Forschungsstand und bei Betreuung im Perinatalzentrum - f{\"u}r Fr{\"u}hgeborene ab der 22. bis 35. Schwangerschaftswoche konzipiert. Durch Nachahmung nat{\"u}rlicher Gegebenheiten wird die Entwicklung deutlich verbessert, wie zum Beispiel durch das Abspielen der Ger{\"a}usche im Mutterleib. Die Eltern werden mit einbezogen und f{\"o}rdern die Weiterentwicklung besonders durch Interaktion mit ihrem Fr{\"u}hgeborenen vor Ort und auf Distanz per App. Biological Cocoon macht die Behandlung angenehm. Sp{\"a}tfolgen beim Neugeborenen werden vermieden.},
