  abstract  = {Drought-induced forest decline, like the Scots pine mortality in inner-Alpine valleys, will gain in importance as the frequency and severity of drought events are expected to increase. To understand how chronic drought affects tree growth and tree-ring δ13C values, we studied mature Scots pine in an irrigation experiment in an inner-Alpine valley. Tree growth and isotope analyses were carried out at the annual and seasonal scale. At the seasonal scale, maximum δ13C values were measured after the hottest and driest period of the year, and were associated with decreasing growth rates. Inter-annual δ13C values in early- and latewood showed a strong correlation with annual climatic conditions and an immediate decrease as a response to irrigation. This indicates a tight coupling between wood formation and the freshly produced assimilates for trees exposed to chronic drought. This rapid appearance of the isotopic signal is a strong indication for an immediate and direct transfer of newly synthesized assimilates for biomass production. The fast appearance and the distinct isotopic signal suggest a low availability of old stored carbohydrates. If this was a sign for C-storage depletion, an increasing mortality could be expected when stressors increase the need for carbohydrate for defence, repair or regeneration.},

  abstract  = {Purpose To assess potential cognitive deficits under the influence of static magnetic fields at various field strengths some studies already exist. These studies were not focused on attention as the most vulnerable cognitive function. Additionally, mostly no magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences were performed. Materials and Methods In all, 25 right-handed men were enrolled in this study. All subjects underwent one MRI examination of 63 minutes at 1.5 T and one at 7 T within an interval of 10 to 30 days. The order of the examinations was randomized. Subjects were referred to six standardized neuropsychological tests strictly focused on attention immediately before and after each MRI examination. Differences in neuropsychological variables between the timepoints before and after each MRI examination were assessed and P-values were calculated Results Only six subtests revealed significant differences between pre- and post-MRI. In these tests the subjects achieved better results in post-MRI testing than in pre-MRI testing (P = 0.013-0.032). The other tests revealed no significant results. Conclusion The improvement in post-MRI testing is only explicable as a result of learning effects. MRI examinations, even in ultrahigh-field scanners, do not seem to have any persisting influence on the attention networks of human cognition immediately after exposure.},

  abstract  = {Various models have been proposed for the prediction of the necessary support pressure at the face of a shallow tunnel. To assess their quality, the collapse of a tunnel face was modelled with small-scale model tests at single gravity. The development of the failure mechanism and the support force at the face in dry sand were investigated. The observed displacement patterns show a negligible influence of overburden on the extent and evolution of the failure zone. The latter is significantly influenced, though, by the initial density of the sand: in dense sand a chimney-wedge-type collapse mechanism developed, which propagated towards the soil surface. Initially, loose sand did not show any discrete collapse mechanism. The necessary support force was neither influenced by the overburden nor the initial density. A comparison with quantitative predictions by several theoretical models showed that the measured necessary support pressure is overestimated by most of the models. Those by Vermeer/Ruse and L{\´e}ca/Dormieux showed the best agreement to the measurements.},

Dies stellt insbesondere in Erdbebengebieten hohe Anforderungen an die verwendeten Baustoffe. Am baupraktischen Beispiel einer Doppelhaush{\"a}lfte wird demonstriert, dass die Symbiose aus energieeffizientem und gleichzeitig erdbebensicherem Bauen in der h{\"o}chsten deutschen Erdbebenzone mit monolithischem Ziegelmauerwerk gut realisierbar ist. Als Ziegelmauerwerk werden f{\"u}r die Außenw{\"a}nde w{\"a}rmetechnisch optimierte Hochlochziegel verwendet, die sowohl die Anforderungen der Energieeinsparverordnung 2009 als auch die Anforderungen an Mauerwerkbaustoffe nach den aktuellen Erdbebennormen erf{\"u}llen. Der Erdbebennachweis der Doppelhaush{\"a}lfte erfolgt mit einem nichtlinearen Nachweisverfahren, das f{\"u}r eine einfache praktische Anwendung programmtechnisch umgesetzt wurde. F{\"u}r den Nachweis wurden aus zyklischen Schubwandversuchen ermittelte Last-Verformungskurven verwendet. Das gesamte in Deutschland noch nicht normativ geregelte Nachweiskonzept wurde im Rahmen einer Zustimmung im Einzelfall gepr{\"u}ft und genehmigt.},

  abstract  = {In Valais, Switzerland, Scots pines (Pinus sylvestris L.) are declining, mainly following drought. To assess the impact of drought on tree growth and survival, an irrigation experiment was initiated in 2003 in a mature pine forest, approximately doubling the annual precipitation. Tree crown transparency (lack of foliage) and leaf area index (LAI) were annually assessed. Seven irrigated and six control trees were felled in 2006, and needles, stem discs and branches were taken for growth analysis. Irrigation in 2004 and 2005, both with below-average precipitation, increased needle size, area and mass, stem growth and, with a 1-year delay, shoot length. This led to a relative decrease in tree crown transparency (-14\%) and to an increase in stand LAI (+20\%). Irrigation increased needle length by 70\%, shoot length by 100\% and ring width by 120\%, regardless of crown transparency. Crown transparency correlated positively with mean needle size, shoot length and ring width and negatively with specific leaf area. Trees with high crown transparency (low growth, short needles) experienced similar increases in needle mass and growth with irrigation than trees with low transparency (high growth, long needles), indicating that seemingly declining trees were able to 'recover' when water supply became sufficient. A simple drought index before and during the irrigation explained most of the variation found in the parameters for both irrigated and control trees.},

Im folgenden Beitrag werden 2 Patieninnen (30 und 36 Jahre) mit unterschiedlich stark ausgepr{\"a}gter stromaler diffuser Hornhauttr{\"u}bung vorgestellt. Patientin 1 war kleinw{\"u}chsig (114 cm) und Patientin 2 normal groß (172 cm). Beide Patientinnen wiesen ver{\"a}nderte Gelenkstrukturen an Hand und Fußgelenken sowie diffuse stromale Hornhauttr{\"u}bungen auf. Des Weiteren lagen eine Mitral- und Aorteninsuffizienz (Patientin 1) bzw. eine Aorteninsuffizienz (Patientin 2) vor. Die stromalen diffusen Hornhauttr{\"u}bungen ließen im Zusammenhang mit den Gelenkver{\"a}nderungen ein Scheie-Syndrom vermuten. Therapeutisch ist bei Patienten mit Visusminderung eine (lamell{\"a}re) Keratoplastik sinnvoll.},

  abstract  = {High-alexithymic individuals are characterized by an impaired ability to identify and communicate emotions whereas low-alexithymic individuals have a wide-ranging ability to deal with emotions. This study examined the hypothesis that valence and arousal modifications of emotional stimuli differentially modulate cortical regions in high-alexithymic and low-alexithymic individuals. To this end, 28 high-alexithymic and 25 low-alexithymic individuals were investigated with event-related fMRI using visual emotional stimuli. We found differential neural activations in the dorsal anterior cingulate, the insula and the amygdala. We suggest that these differences may account for the impaired ability of high-alexithymic individuals to appropriately handle emotional stimuli.},

  abstract  = {Das verbrauchersch{\"u}tzende Widerrufsrecht ist in die Jahre gekommen. Als Ergebnis der zunehmenden Rechtszersplitterung im europ{\"a}ischen Richtlinienrecht hat sich eine un{\"u}berschaubare Bandbreite an Ausgestaltungsformen in den mitgliedstaatlichen Rechtssystemen herausgebildet. Effektivit{\"a}tseinbußen, Wettbewerbsverzerrungen und ein hohes Maß an Rechtsunsicherheit sind die Folgen. Zur{\"u}ckf{\"u}hren l{\"a}sst sich die kostenintensive Fragmentierung des Verbrauchervertragsrechts auf die bisherige Regelungspolitik der Mindestharmonisierung, die es den Mitgliedstaaten erlaubt, von dem durch die Richtlinien gesetzten Mindeststandard durch „{\"u}berschießende Umsetzung" abzuweichen. Der Unionsgesetzgeber versucht dem vermehrt durch einen Prozess der Vollharmonisierung zu begegnen: Neben Reformen der Richtlinie {\"u}ber Verbraucherkredite (VerbrKrRL) sowie der Timesharing-Richtlinie (TimesharingRL), liegt seit dem 8. Oktober 2008 nunmehr auch der Entwurf einer Rahmenrichtlinie {\"u}ber die Rechte der Verbraucher (VRRL-E) vor. Danach sollen die bisherigen Richtlinien {\"u}ber Haust{\"u}rgesch{\"a}fte (Haust{\"u}rgesch{\"a}fteRL), Fernabsatzvertr{\"a}ge (FARL), missbr{\"a}uchliche Klauseln sowie Verbrauchsg{\"u}terk{\"a}ufe vereinigt werden. F{\"u}r das verbrauchersch{\"u}tzende Widerrufsrecht ist damit zum einen die Herausbildung einheitlicher Kernelemente verbunden, zum anderen tritt es in Konkurrenz zu umfassenden Informationspflichten, die ebenfalls den Schutz des Verbrauchers vor dem un{\"u}berlegten Abschluss riskanter bzw. nachteiliger Vertr{\"a}ge zum Ziel haben. Angesichts dieser Entwicklung stellt sich im Folgenden die Frage nach der Zukunft des unionsrechtlichen Widerrufsrechts.   abstract  = {Positron emitters such as 11C, 13N and 18F and their labelled compounds are widely used in clinical diagnosis and animal studies, but can also be used to study metabolic and physiological functions in plants dynamically and in vivo. A very particular tracer molecule is 11CO2 since it can be applied to a leaf as a gas. We have developed a Plant Tomographic Imaging System (PlanTIS), a high-resolution PET scanner for plant studies. Detectors, front-end electronics and data acquisition architecture of the scanner are based on the ClearPET™ system. The detectors consist of LSO and LuYAP crystals in phoswich configuration which are coupled to position-sensitive photomultiplier tubes. Signals are continuously sampled by free running ADCs, and data are stored in a list mode format. The detectors are arranged in a horizontal plane to allow the plants to be measured in the natural upright position. Two groups of four detector modules stand face-to-face and rotate around the field-of-view. This special system geometry requires dedicated image reconstruction and normalization procedures. We present the initial performance of the detector system and first phantom and plant measurements.},

  abstract  = {The CellDrum technology (The term 'CellDrum technology' includes a couple of slightly different technological setups for measuring lateral mechanical tension in various types of cell monolayers or 3D-tissue constructs) was designed to quantify the contraction rate and mechanical tension of self-exciting cardiac myocytes. Cells were grown either within flexible, circular collagen gels or as monolayer on top of respective 1-mum thin silicone membranes. Membrane and cells were bulged outwards by air pressure. This biaxial strain distribution is rather similar the beating, blood-filled heart. The setup allowed presetting the mechanical residual stress level externally by adjusting the centre deflection, thus, mimicking hypertension in vitro. Tension was measured as oscillating differential pressure change between chamber and environment. A 0.5-mm thick collagen-cardiac myocyte tissue construct induced after 2 days of culturing (initial cell density 2 x 10(4) cells/ml), a mechanical tension of 1.62 +/- 0.17 microN/mm(2). Mechanical load is an important growth regulator in the developing heart, and the orientation and alignment of cardiomyocytes is stress sensitive. Therefore, it was necessary to develop the CellDrum technology with its biaxial stress-strain distribution and defined mechanical boundary conditions. Cells were exposed to strain in two directions, radially and circumferentially, which is similar to biaxial loading in real heart tissues. Thus, from a biomechanical point of view, the system is preferable to previous setups based on uniaxial stretching.},

  abstract  = {Objective: As high-field cardiac MRI (CMR) becomes more widespread the propensity of ECG to interference from electromagnetic fields (EMF) and to magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) effects increases and with it the motivation for a CMR triggering alternative. This study explores the suitability of acoustic cardiac triggering (ACT) for left ventricular (LV) function assessment in healthy subjects (n=14). Methods: Quantitative analysis of 2D CINE steady-state free precession (SSFP) images was conducted to compare ACT's performance with vector ECG (VCG). Endocardial border sharpness (EBS) was examined paralleled by quantitative LV function assessment. Results: Unlike VCG, ACT provided signal traces free of interference from EMF or MHD effects. In the case of correct Rwave recognition, VCG-triggered 2D CINE SSFP was immune to cardiac motion effects—even at 3.0 T. However, VCG-triggered 2D SSFP CINE imaging was prone to cardiac motion and EBS degradation if R-wave misregistration occurred. ACT-triggered acquisitions yielded LV parameters (end-diastolic volume (EDV), endsystolic volume (ESV), stroke volume (SV), ejection fraction (EF) and left ventricular mass (LVM)) comparable with those derived fromVCG-triggered acquisitions (1.5 T: ESVVCG=(56± 17) ml, EDVVCG=(151±32)ml, LVMVCG=(97±27) g, SVVCG=(94± 19)ml, EFVCG=(63±5)\% cf.   abstract  = {The objectives of the present work are to characterize the Gas Metal Arc Welding process of DP 600 sheet steel and to summarize the modelling techniques. The time-temperature evolution during the welding cycle was measured experimentally and modelled with the softwaretool SimWeld. To model the phase transformations during the welding cycle dilatometer tests were done to quantify the parameters for phase field modelling by MICRESS®. The important input parameters are interface mobility, nucleation density, etc. A contribution was made to include austenite to bainite transformation in MICRESS®. This is useful to predict the microstructure in the fast cooling segments. The phase transformation model is capable to predict the microstructure along the heating and cooling cycles of welding. Tensile tests have shown the evidence of failure at the heat affected zone, which has the ferrite-tempered martensite microstructure.},

  abstract  = {Recently, a new alkaline protease named HP70 showing highest homology to extracellular serine proteases of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Xanthomonas campestris was found in the course of a metagenome screening for detergent proteases (Niehaus et al., submitted for publication). Attempts to efficiently express the enzyme in common expression hosts had failed. This study reports on the realization of overexpression in Escherichia coli after structural modification of HP70. Modelling of HP70 resulted in a two-domain structure, comprising the catalytic domain and a C-terminal domain which includes about 100 amino acids. On the basis of the modelled structure the enzyme was truncated by deletion of most of the C-terminal domain yielding HP70-C477. This structural modification allowed effective expression of active enzyme using E. coli BL21-Gold as the host. Specific activity of HP70-C477 determined with suc-l-Ala-l-Ala-l-Pro-l-Phe-p-nitroanilide as the substrate was 30 ± 5 U/mg compared to 8 ± 1 U/mg of the native enzyme. HP70-C477 was most active at 40 °C and pH 7-11; these conditions are prerequisite for a potential application as detergent enzyme. Determination of kinetic parameters at 40 °C and pH = 9.5 resulted in KM = 0.23 ± 0.01 mM and kcat = 167.5 ± 3.6 s⁻¹. MS-analysis of peptide fragments obtained from incubation of HP70 and HP70-C477 with insulin B indicated that the C-terminal domain influences the cleavage preferences of the enzyme. Washing experiments confirmed the high potential of HP70-C477 as detergent protease.},

Aus gesellschaftsrechtlicher Sicht ist zu beachten, dass die SPAC-SE mit Sitz in Deutschland, welche auch den deutschen, aktienrechtlichen Bestimmungen unterliegt, nur bedingt f{\"u}r eine SPAC geeignet erscheint. Das deutsche Aktienrecht enth{\"a}lt strenge Regelungen, die der f{\"u}r eine SPAC-SE erforderlichen Flexibilit{\"a}t entgegenstehen k{\"o}nnen. Dies gilt insbesondere f{\"u}r das Erfordernis der Zustimmung der Hauptversammlung zur Akquisition des Zielunternehmens, die R{\"u}ckzahlung des Treuhandverm{\"o}gens an Aktion{\"a}re, die der Akquisition nicht zugestimmt haben und die Liquidation der SPAC-SE im Falle des Scheiterns des Erwerbs des Zielobjektes.},

Sowohl nach US-GAAP als auch nach IFRS nehmen die Anforderungen an die Bilanzierung und Offenlegung best{\"a}ndig zu. Schon allein dies zeigt die Bedeutung, die dem Themenbereich der Steuerrisiken beigemessen wird. Aber nicht nur im Rahmen der Berichterstattung im Jahresabschluss stehen Steuerrisiken oben auf der Agenda, auch der amerikanische Internal Revenue Service (IRS) verfolgt das Thema sehr konsequent und plant, bestimmte Unternehmen zu Angaben von Steuerrisiken im Rahmen der Steuererkl{\"a}rungen zu verpflichten. Die Wahlen sind zwar vornehmlich Sache der Arbeitnehmer, allerdings sollten auch die Arbeitgeber darauf achten, dass die Wahlen korrekt ablaufen, schließlich haben die Arbeitgeber die Kosten der Wahlen zu tragen. Kommt es hierbei zu Fehlern, die schlimmstenfalls eine Wiederholung der Wahlen erfordern, hat auch f{\"u}r die hierdurch zus{\"a}tzlich entstehenden Kosten der Arbeitgeber aufzukommen.   abstract  = {Two- and three-dimensional avalanche dynamics models are being increasingly used in hazard-mitigation studies. These models can provide improved and more accurate results for hazard mapping than the simple one-dimensional models presently used in practice. However, two- and three-dimensional models generate an extensive amount of output data, making the interpretation of simulation results more difficult. To perform a simulation in three-dimensional terrain, numerical models require a digital elevation model, specification of avalanche release areas (spatial extent and volume), selection of solution methods, finding an adequate calculation resolution and, finally, the choice of friction parameters. In this paper, the importance and difficulty of correctly setting up and analysing the results of a numerical avalanche dynamics simulation is discussed. We apply the two-dimensional simulation program RAMMS to the 1968 extreme avalanche event In den Arelen. We show the effect of model input variations on simulation results and the dangers and complexities in their interpretation.},
