  abstract  = {The 2nd edition of the lightning risk management standard (IEC 62305-2) considers structures, which may endanger environment. In these cases, the loss is not limited to the structure itself, which is valid for usual structures. In the past (Edition 1) this danger was simply taken into account by a special hazard factor, multiplying the existing risk for the structure with a number. Now, in the edition 2, we add to the risk for the structure itself a "second risk" due to the losses outside the structure. The losses outside can be treated independently from what occurs inside. This is a major advantage to analyze the risk for sensitive structures, like chemical plants, nuclear plants, or structures containing explosives, etc. In this paper, the existing procedure given by the European version EN 62305-2 Ed.2 is further developed and applied to a few structures.},

  abstract  = {A novel photoexcitation method for the light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) realized a higher spatial resolution of chemical imaging. In this method, a modulated light probe, which generates the alternating photocurrent signal, is surrounded by a ring of constant light, which suppresses the lateral diffusion of photocarriers by enhancing recombination. A device simulation verified that a higher spatial resolution could be obtained by adjusting the gap between the modulated and constant light. It was also found that a higher intensity and a longer wavelength of constant light was more effective. However, there exists a tradeoff between the spatial resolution and the amplitude of the photocurrent, and thus, the signal-to-noise ratio. A tilted incidence of constant light was applied, which could achieve even higher resolution with a smaller loss of photocurrent.},

  abstract  = {The chemical imaging sensor, which is based on the principle of the light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS), is a powerful tool to visualize the spatial distribution of chemical species on the sensor surface. The spatial resolution of this sensor depends on the diffusion of photocarriers excited by a modulated light. In this study, a novel hybrid fiber-optic illumination was developed to enhance the spatial resolution. It consists of a modulated light probe to generate a photocurrent signal and a ring of constant light, which suppresses the lateral diffusion of minority carriers excited by the modulated light. It is demonstrated that the spatial resolution was improved from 92 μm to 68 μm.},

  abstract  = {Persistent infection with the high-risk Human Papillomavirus type 16 (HPV 16) is the causative event for the development of cervical cancer and other malignant tumors of the anogenital tract and of the head and neck. Despite many attempts to develop therapeutic vaccines no candidate has entered late clinical trials. An interesting approach is a DNA based vaccine encompassing the nucleotide sequence of the E6 and E7 viral oncoproteins. Because both proteins are consistently expressed in HPV infected cells they represent excellent targets for immune therapy. Here we report the development of 8 DNA vaccine candidates consisting of differently rearranged HPV-16 E6 and E7 sequences within one molecule providing all naturally occurring epitopes but supposedly lacking transforming activity. The HPV sequences were fused to the J-domain and the SV40 enhancer in order to increase immune responses. We demonstrate that one out of the 8 vaccine candidates induces very strong cellular E6- and E7- specific cellular immune responses in mice and, as shown in regression experiments, efficiently controls growth of HPV 16 positive syngeneic tumors. This data demonstrates the potential of this vaccine candidate to control persistent HPV 16 infection that may lead to malignant disease. It also suggests that different sequence rearrangements influence the immunogenecity by an as yet unknown mechanism.},

Unter der Koordination der Universit{\"a}t Padua beteiligen sich 16 Partner aus sechs europ{\"a}ischen L{\"a}ndern (Deutschland, Griechenland, Italien, Portugal, Rum{\"a}nien, T{\"u}rkei). Als deutsche Partner nehmen die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Mauerziegel aus Bonn, die Universit{\"a}t Kassel sowie das Ingenieurb{\"u}ro SDA-engineering GmbH aus Herzogenrath, teil. Ziel der deutschen Partner ist die Entwicklung von innovativen Ausfachungssystemen aus monolithischem w{\"a}rmed{\"a}mmenden Ziegelmauerwerk, mit denen nicht nur eine erh{\"o}hte Erdbebensicherheit, sondern auch die sichere Erf{\"u}llung der steigenden Anforderungen aus Windbeanspruchungen gew{\"a}hrleistet werden k{\"o}nnen. Die Forschungsergebnisse sollen vom Partner SDA-engineering GmbH in die bereits seit einigen Jahren verf{\"u}gbare Softwarel{\"o}sung MINEA [1] integriert werden. Weitere Informationen stehen auf den Websites des Projektes [2] zur Verf{\"u}gung. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden nach einer kurzen thematischen Einf{\"u}hrung die Ergebnisse von Tastversuchen an senkrecht zur Ebene belasteten Ausfachungsw{\"a}nden aus Planziegelmauerwerk vorgestellt.   abstract  = {Die Erdbeben in Albstadt 1978 (Magnitude 5,7), Roermond 1992 (Magnitude 5,9) oder in Waldkirch 2004 (Magnitude 5,1) haben verdeutlicht, dass die erdbebensichere Auslegung von Mauerwerksbauten auch in Deutschland von großer Bedeutung ist. Bereits im Jahr 1981 wurde die DIN 4149 (1981) "Bauten in deutschen Erdbebengebieten - Lastannahmen, Bemessung und Ausf{\"u}hrung {\"u}blicher Hochbauten" eingef{\"u}hrt, in der aber f{\"u}r Mauerwerksbauten nur wenige Anforderungen gestellt wurden. Diese Norm wurde durch den NABau-Arbeitsausschuss "Erdbeben; Sonderfragen" des Deutschen Instituts f{\"u}r Normung e.V. (DIN) auf Grundlage des Eurocode 8 (2004) vollst{\"a}ndig {\"u}berarbeitet und durch die DIN 4149 (2005) abgel{\"o}st, die umfangreiche Regelungen f{\"u}r die seismische Auslegung von Mauerwerksbauten enth{\"a}lt. Mittlerweile liegen die DIN EN 1998-1 (2010) und der Nationale Anhang DIN EN 1998-1/NA (2011) vor, die nach Einarbeitung der Ergebnisse der durchgef{\"u}hrten Anwendungserprobung bauaufsichtlich eingef{\"u}hrt und die DIN 4149 (2005) ersetzen werden.   abstract  = {The dwarf elm Ulmus pumila L. (Ulmaceae) is one of indigenous species of flora in Kazakhstan and forms a basis of dendroflora in virtually all settlements of the region. In the past decade, multiple outbreaks of previously unknown diseases of the small-leaved elm have been registered. In our study, by the molecular-genetic analysis it was found that the pathogens responsible for the outbreaks are microfungi belonging to the genus Fusarium - F. solani and F. oxysporum. The nucleotide sequences (ITS regions) isolated from the diseased trees showed very high similarity with the GenBank control numbers EU625403.1 and FJ478128.1 (100.0 and 99.0 \% respectively). Oncoming research will focus on the search of natural microbial antagonists of the discovered phytopathogens.},

  abstract  = {Network theory provides novel concepts that promise an improved characterization of interacting dynamical systems. Within this framework, evolving networks can be considered as being composed of nodes, representing systems, and of time-varying edges, representing interactions between these systems. This approach is highly attractive to further our understanding of the physiological and pathophysiological dynamics in human brain networks. Indeed, there is growing evidence that the epileptic process can be regarded as a large-scale network phenomenon. We here review methodologies for inferring networks from empirical time series and for a characterization of these evolving networks. We summarize recent findings derived from studies that investigate human epileptic brain networks evolving on timescales ranging from few seconds to weeks. We point to possible pitfalls and open issues, and discuss future perspectives.},

  abstract  = {Background True date palms (Phoenix dactylifera L.) are impressive trees and have served as an indispensable source of food for mankind in tropical and subtropical countries for centuries. The aim of this study is to differentiate date palm tree varieties by analysing leaflet cross sections with technical/optical methods and artificial neural networks (ANN). Results Fluorescence microscopy images of leaflet cross sections have been taken from a set of five date palm tree cultivars (Hewlat al Jouf, Khlas, Nabot Soltan, Shishi, Um Raheem). After features extraction from images, the obtained data have been fed in a multilayer perceptron ANN with backpropagation learning algorithm. Conclusions Overall, an accurate result in prediction and differentiation of date palm tree cultivars was achieved with average prediction in tenfold cross-validation is 89.1\% and reached 100\% in one of the best ANN.},

  abstract  = {A technology reference study for a multiple near-Earth object (NEO) rendezvous mission with solar sailcraft is currently carried out by the authors of this paper. The investigated mission builds on previous concepts, but adopts a strong micro-spacecraft philosophy based on the DLR/ESA Gossamer technology. The main scientific objective of the mission is to explore the diversity of NEOs. After direct interplanetary insertion, the solar sailcraft should—within less than 10 years—rendezvous three NEOs that are not only scientifically interesting, but also from the point of human spaceight and planetary defense.   abstract  = {This paper describes the modeling of a high-temperature storage system for an existing solar tower power plant with open volumetric receiver technology, which uses air as heat transfer medium (HTF). The storage system model has been developed in the simulation environment Matlab/Simulink®. The storage type under investigation is a packed bed thermal energy storage system which has the characteristics of a regenerator. Thermal energy can be stored and discharged as required via the HTF air. The air mass flow distribution is controlled by valves, and the mass flow by two blowers. The thermal storage operation strategy has a direct and significant impact on the energetic and economic efficiency of the solar tower power plants.},

  abstract  = {A new trend in automation is to deploy so-called cyber-physical systems (CPS) which combine computation with physical processes. The novel RoboCup Logistics League Sponsored by Festo (LLSF) aims at such CPS logistic scenarios in an automation setting. A team of robots has to produce products from a number of semi-finished products which they have to machine during the game. Different production plans are possible and the robots need to recycle scrap byproducts. This way, the LLSF is a very interesting league offering a number of challenging research questions for planning, coordination, or communication in an application-driven scenario. In this paper, we outline the objectives of the LLSF and present steps for developing the league further towards a benchmark for logistics scenarios for CPS. As a major milestone we present the new automated referee system which helps in governing the game play as well as keeping track of the scored points in a very complex factory scenario.},

Im Fall der Ethanol- und Butanol-Gewinnung kann eine simultane Saccharifizierung und Fermentierung (SSF) durchgef{\"u}hrt werden. Aufgrund der Produkttoxizit{\"a}t erfordert die Butanol-Herstellung dabei eine In-situ-Produktabtrennung durch L{\"o}semittelimpr{\"a}gnierte Partikel. Die Herstellung der beiden Dicarbons{\"a}uren unterscheidet sich in der Sensitivit{\"a}t der verwendeten Mikroorganismen gegen{\"u}ber Inhibitoren, die in Spuren im Hydrolysat enthalten sind. Die Bernteins{\"a}urebildung mit Actinobacillussuccinogenes kann mit unbehandeltem Hydrolysat erfolgen. Dagegen erfordert die Gewinnung von Itacons{\"a}ure mit A. terreus eine Detoxifizierung des Hydrolysats. Insgesamt konnte gezeigt werden, dass s{\"a}mtliche Bioraffinerie-Hydrolysate als Substrate f{\"u}r unterschiedliche Fermentationen geeignet sind.},

  abstract  = {Bacillus pumilus is characterized by a higher oxidative stress resistance than other comparable industrially relevant Bacilli such as B. subtilis or B. licheniformis. In this study the response of B. pumilus to oxidative stress was investigated during a treatment with high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide at the proteome, transcriptome and metabolome level. Genes/proteins belonging to regulons, which are known to have important functions in the oxidative stress response of other organisms, were found to be upregulated, such as the Fur, Spx, SOS or CtsR regulon. Strikingly, parts of the fundamental PerR regulon responding to peroxide stress in B. subtilis are not encoded in the B. pumilus genome. Thus, B. pumilus misses the catalase KatA, the DNA-protection protein MrgA or the alkyl hydroperoxide reductase AhpCF. Data of this study suggests that the catalase KatX2 takes over the function of the missing KatA in the oxidative stress response of B. pumilus. The genome-wide expression analysis revealed an induction of bacillithiol (Cys-GlcN-malate, BSH) relevant genes. An analysis of the intracellular metabolites detected high intracellular levels of this protective metabolite, which indicates the importance of bacillithiol in the peroxide stress resistance of B. pumilus.},
