  abstract  = {Conventional EEG devices cannot be used in everyday life and hence, past decade research has been focused on Ear-EEG for mobile, at-home monitoring for various applications ranging from emotion detection to sleep monitoring. As the area available for electrode contact in the ear is limited, the electrode size and location play a vital role for an Ear-EEG system. In this investigation, we present a quantitative study of ear-electrodes with two electrode sizes at different locations in a wet and dry configuration. Electrode impedance scales inversely with size and ranges from 450 kΩ to 1.29 MΩ for dry and from 22 kΩ to 42 kΩ for wet contact at 10 Hz. For any size, the location in the ear canal with the lowest impedance is ELE (Left Ear Superior), presumably due to increased contact pressure caused by the outer-ear anatomy. The results can be used to optimize signal pickup and SNR for specific applications. We demonstrate this by recording sleep spindles during sleep onset with high quality (5.27 μVrms).},

  abstract  = {This paper describes the concept of an innovative, interdisciplinary, user-oriented earthquake warning and rapid response system coupled with a structural health monitoring system (SHM), capable to detect structural damages in real time. The novel system is based on interconnected decentralized seismic and structural health monitoring sensors. It is developed and will be exemplarily applied on critical infrastructures in Lower Rhine Region, in particular on a road bridge and within a chemical industrial facility. A communication network is responsible to exchange information between sensors and forward warnings and status reports about infrastructures'health condition to the concerned recipients (e.g., facility operators, local authorities). Safety measures such as emergency shutdowns are activated to mitigate structural damages and damage propagation. Local monitoring systems of the infrastructures are integrated in BIM models. The visualization of sensor data and the graphic representation of the detected damages provide spatial content to sensors data and serve as a useful and effective tool for the decision-making processes after an earthquake in the region under consideration.},

  abstract  = {Clinical assessment of newly developed sensors is important for ensuring their validity. Comparing recordings of emerging electrocardiography (ECG) systems to a reference ECG system requires accurate synchronization of data from both devices. Current methods can be inefficient and prone to errors. To address this issue, three algorithms are presented to synchronize two ECG time series from different recording systems: Binned R-peak Correlation, R-R Interval Correlation, and Average R-peak Distance. These algorithms reduce ECG data to their cyclic features, mitigating inefficiencies and minimizing discrepancies between different recording systems. We evaluate the performance of these algorithms using high-quality data and then assess their robustness after manipulating the R-peaks. Our results show that R-R Interval Correlation was the most efficient, whereas the Average R-peak Distance and Binned R-peak Correlation were more robust against noisy data.},

  abstract  = {Pulmonary arterial cannulation is a common and effective method for percutaneous mechanical circulatory support for concurrent right heart and respiratory failure [1]. However, limited data exists to what effect the positioning of the cannula has on the oxygen perfusion throughout the pulmonary artery (PA). This study aims to evaluate, using computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the effect of different cannula positions in the PA with respect to the oxygenation of the different branching vessels in order for an optimal cannula position to be determined.   abstract  = {Masonry infill walls are the most traditional enclosure system that is still widely used in RC frame buildings all over the world, particularly in seismic active regions. Although infill walls are usually neglected in seismic design, during an earthquake event they are subjected to in-plane and out-of-plane forces that can act separately or simultaneously. Since observations of damage to buildings after recent earthquakes showed detrimental effects of in-plane and out-of-plane load interaction on infill walls, the number of studies that focus on influence of in-plane damage on out-of-plane response has significantly increased. However, most of the xperimental campaigns have considered only solid infills and there is a lack of combined in-plane and out-of-plane experimental tests on masonry infills with openings, although windows and doors strongly affect seismic performance. In this paper, two types of experimental tests on infills with window openings are presented. The first is a pure out-of-plane test and the second one is a sequential in-plane and out-of-plane test aimed at investigating the effects of existing in-plane damage on outof-plane response. Additionally, findings from two tests with similar load procedure that were carried out on fully infilled RC frames in the scope of the same project are used for comparison. Test results clearly show that window opening increased vulnerability of infills to combined seismic actions and that prevention of damage in infills with openings is of the utmost importance for seismic safety.},

  abstract  = {A new method for improved autoclave loading within the restrictive framework of helicopter manufacturing is proposed. It is derived from experimental and numerical studies of the curing process and aims at optimizing tooling positions in the autoclave for fast and homogeneous heat-up. The mold positioning is based on two sets of information. The thermal properties of the molds, which can be determined via semi-empirical thermal simulation. The second information is a previously determined distribution of heat transfer coefficients inside the autoclave. Finally, an experimental proof of concept is performed to show a cycle time reduction of up to 31\% using the proposed methodology.},

  abstract  = {Physical interaction with small solar system bodies (SSSB) is key for in-situ resource utilization (ISRU). The design of mining missions requires good understanding of SSSB properties, including composition, surface and interior structure, and thermal environment. But as the saying goes "If you've seen one asteroid, you've seen one Asteroid": Although some patterns may begin to appear, a stable and reliable scheme of SSSB classification still has to be evolved. Identified commonalities would enable generic ISRU technology and spacecraft design approaches with a high degree of re-use. Strategic approaches require much broader in-depth characterization of the SSSB populations of interest to the ISRU community. The DLR-ESTEC GOSSAMER Roadmap Science Working Groups identified target-flexible Multiple Near-Earth asteroid (NEA) Rendezvous (MNR) as one of the missions only feasible with solar sail propulsion, showed the ability to access any inclination and a wide range of heliocentric distances as well as continuous operation close to Earth's orbit where low delta-v objects reside.},

  abstract  = {The results of a statistical investigation of 42 fixed-wing, small to medium sized (20 kg-1000 kg) reconnaissance unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) are presented. Regression analyses are used to identify correlations of the most relevant geometry dimensions with the UAV's maximum take-off mass. The findings allow an empirical based geometry-build up for a complete unmanned aircraft by referring to its take-off mass only. This provides a bridge between very early design stages (initial sizing) and the later determination of shapes and dimensions. The correlations might be integrated into a UAV sizing environment and allow designers to implement more sophisticated drag and weight estimation methods in this process. Additional information on correlation factors for a rough drag estimation methodology indicate how this technique can significantly enhance the accuracy of early design iterations.},

  abstract  = {In Anbetracht weltweit zunehmend strengerer klimapolitischer Ziele steigt auch der Druck f{\"u}r Nutzfahrzeughersteller, effizientere und umweltfreundlichere Technologien zu entwickeln. Den Blick bei der Bewertung dieser ausschließlich auf die Fahrzeugnutzung zu richten, ist l{\"a}ngst nicht mehr zufriedenstellend. Im Rahmen dieser Analyse wird ein gegenw{\"a}rtig auf dem Markt erwerblicher und in deutschen St{\"a}dten bereits seit Jahren betriebener Hybridbus energetisch und {\"o}kologisch mit einem konventionell angetriebenen, nahezu baugleichen Modell entlang des Lebensweges bewertet. Nach Definition von Ziel und Untersuchungsrahmen wird ein {\"U}berblick auf bereits durchgef{\"u}hrte Lebenszyklusanalysen zu Hybridbussen im Stadtverkehr gegeben und Schlussfolgerungen f{\"u}r die anschließende Analyse abgeleitet. Diese wird im Rahmen einer energetischen und {\"o}kologischen Bewertung beider Produktsysteme anhand der Parameter "Prim{\"a}renergieeinsatz" und "CO2{\"a}q Emissionen" praktiziert. Der Fahrzeugrumpf beider Fahrzeuge des gleichen Modells wird dabei als einheitlich angenommen, sodass bei dem Vergleich der Herstellung vereinfacht nur die sich unterscheidenden Komponenten des Antriebstranges ber{\"u}cksichtigt werden. Die Resultate der Wirkungsabsch{\"a}tzung werden als Differenz des Hybridbusses gegen{\"u}ber dem Referenzfahrzeug {\"u}ber die einzelnen Lebenszyklusphasen dargestellt. Schließlich werden Prognosen getroffen, ab welcher Strecke die bei der Herstellung erzeugten h{\"o}heren CO2{\"a}q Emissionen des Hybridantriebstranges gegen{\"u}ber dem Referenzmodell ausgeglichen werden.},

Der zugrundeliegende, komplexe biologische Prozess wird noch immer unzureichend verstanden und bedarf systematischer Untersuchungen der Prozessparameter, um einen hohen Ertrag bei guter Gasqualit{\"a}t zu erm{\"o}glichen. Die Fragestellungen zur Entschl{\"u}sselung des Prozesses sind sowohl verfahrenstechnischer als auch mikrobiologischer Natur. Aus mikrobiologischer Sicht ist die Kenntnis der tats{\"a}chlich beteiligten prozesstragenden Mikroorganismen von erheblicher Bedeutung, aus verfahrenstechnischer Sicht die Kenntnis der physikalischen und chemischen Faktoren, welche die mikrobiologischen Prozesse und kontrollieren. Im Zusammenspiel aller dieser Parameter wird die Biogasbildung bef{\"o}rdert oder behindert, bis zum Abbruch des Prozesses. Eine m{\"o}gliche Kontrollmethode ist die Messung der metabolischen Aktivit{\"a}t prozesstragender Organismen. Diese soll, beruhend auf fundierten Prozessdaten, gewonnen durch eine Parallelanlage, mit einem lichtadressierbaren potentiometrischen Sensor-System (LAPS) realisiert werden. Dieser Sensor ist in der Lage, pH-Wert-{\"a}nderungen zu detektieren, die durch den Stoffwechsel der auf dem Chip immobilisierten Organismen hervorgerufen werden, um eine Online-{\"U}berwachung von Biogasanlagen zu erm{\"o}glichen.},

  abstract  = {Residential and commercial buildings account for more than one-third of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. Integrated multi-energy systems at the district level are a promising way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by exploiting economies of scale and synergies between energy sources. Planning district energy systems comes with many challenges in an ever-changing environment. Computational modelling established itself as the state-of-the-art method for district energy system planning. Unfortunately, it is still cumbersome to combine standalone models to generate insights that surpass their original purpose. Ideally, planning processes could be solved by using modular tools that easily incorporate the variety of competing and complementing computational models. Our contribution is a vision for a collaborative development and application platform for multi-energy system planning tools at the district level. We present challenges of district energy system planning identified in the literature and evaluate whether this platform can help to overcome these challenges. Further, we propose a toolkit that represents the core technical elements of the platform. Lastly, we discuss community management and its relevance for the success of projects with collaboration and knowledge sharing at their core.},

The automotive industry as well as many other key industries have also been greatly influenced. The rapid development of automotive industries in Europe have created wide industry gap between European Union (EU) and developing countries such as in South East Asia (SEA). Indulging this situation, FH JOANNEUM, Austria together with European partners from FH Aachen, Germany and Politecnico di Torino, Italy are taking initiative to close down the gap utilizing the Erasmus+ United Capacity Building in Higher Education grant from EU. A consortium was founded to engage with automotive technology transfer using the European framework to Malaysian, Indonesian and Thailand Higher Education Institutions (HEI) as well as automotive industries in respective countries. This could be achieved by establishing Engineering Knowledge Transfer Unit (EKTU) in respective SEA institutions guided by the industry partners in their respective countries. This EKTU could offer updated, innovative and high-quality training courses to increase graduate's employability in higher education institutions and strengthen relations between HEI and the wider economic and social environment by addressing University-industry cooperation which is the regional priority for Asia. It is expected that, the Capacity Building Initiative would improve the quality of higher education and enhancing its relevance for the labor market and society in the SEA partners. The outcome of this project would greatly benefit the partners in strong and complementary partnership targeting the automotive industry and enhanced larger scale international cooperation between the European and SEA partners. It would also prepare the SEA HEI in sustainable partnership with Automotive industry in the region as a mean of income generation in the future.},

  abstract  = {Kritische Infrastrukturen sind prim{\"a}re Ziele krimineller Hacker. Der Deutsche Bundestag reagierte darauf am 25. Juli 2015 mit einem Gesetz zur Verbesserung der Sicherheit von ITSystemen, dem IT-Sicherheitsgesetz. Dies verlangt von Betreibern kritischer Infrastrukturen, angemessene Mindeststandards f{\"u}r organisatorische und technische Sicherheit zu implementieren, um den Betrieb und die Verf{\"u}gbarkeit dieser Infrastruktur zu gew{\"a}hrleisten. Telekommunikationsunternehmen sind einerseits von diesem Gesetz in besonderem Maße betroffen und verf{\"u}gen andererseits mit dem Rahmenwerk enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM) {\"u}ber ein international anerkanntes Referenzmodell zur Gestaltung von Gesch{\"a}ftsprozessen in dieser Branche. Da s{\"a}mtliche Telekommunikationsunternehmen in Deutschland verpflichtet sind, das Gesetz innerhalb eines bestimmten Zeitrahmens zu implementieren, pr{\"a}sentiert dieser Beitrag einen Vorschlag zur Erweiterung von eTOM um die relevanten Anforderungen des deutschen IT-Sicherheitsgesetzes.},
