  abstract  = {We report on the synthesis and CO gas-sensing properties of mesoporous tin(IV) oxides (SnO2). For the synthesis cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTABr) was used as a structure-directing agent; the resulting SnO2 powders were applied as films to commercially available sensor substrates by drop coating. Nitrogen physisorption shows specific surface areas up to 160 m2·g-1 and mean pore diameters of about 4 nm, as verified by TEM. The film conductance was measured in dependence on the CO concentration in humid synthetic air at a constant temperature of 300 °C. The sensors show a high sensitivity at low CO concentrations and turn out to be largely insensitive towards changes in the relative humidity. We compare the materials with commercially available SnO2-based sensors.},

  abstract  = {Aeroux ist eine Formstudie {\"u}ber die Gestalt einer Luftschiffgondel. Luftschiffe bzw. Zeppeline werden oft mit dem Ungl{\"u}ck der Hindenburg in Lakehurst in Verbindung gebracht. Aeroux versucht diese Assoziation zu {\"u}berwinden und Luftschiffe in der Gegenwart zu verankern. Durch die gezielte, psychologisch inspirierte Gestaltung soll Sicherheit und Ruhe vermittelt werden, sollen spezifische Assoziationen geweckt werden, die weg f{\"u}hren von Bildern vergangener Tage eines brennenden Luftschiffs, um so Zeppeline als klimafreundlichere Alternative zum Flugzeug wieder ins Spiel zu bringen. Aeroux ist ein hybrides Verkehrsmittel, dass in der Lage ist, sowohl G{\"u}ter als auch Personen in verschiedenen Szenarien zu transportieren. Zeppeline bauchen keine befestigten Landebahnen oder Pisten. Regionen, die {\"u}ber Straßen schwer zug{\"a}nglich sind, k{\"o}nnen so in den Warenhandel integriert werden. Gleichermaßen k{\"o}nnen aber auch Meschen in Regionen bef{\"o}rdert werden, die durch Straßen oder Landebahnen nicht oder unzureichend erschlossen sind. Dar{\"u}ber hinaus kann Aeroux ein Ansatz sein die Unvertr{\"a}glichkeit von Fliegen und Klimaschutz aufzul{\"o}sen. Nicht zuletzt liegt in der gem{\"a}chlichen Art der Bewegung ein besonderer Zauber. Reisen k{\"o}nnten einen neuen Charakter erhalten: durch die großen Fensterfronten und die geringe Flugh{\"o}he k{\"o}nnen Landschaften auf der Reise neu wahrgenommen werden, der Weg wird wieder Teil des Reisens. Die Arbeit ist in erster Linie eine Auseinandersetzung mit der Form. Wie wirkt Form, wie lassen sich Assoziationen wecken, lenken, leiten. Wie kann technischer Anspruch, gesellschaftliche Bedingung, {\"o}kologisches Bewusstsein und nicht zuletzt Genuss in einem Objekt resultieren. Digitale und analoge Fertigung spielen im Zuge der Arbeit ineinander. So entstand das Design der Gondel, nach ersten h{\"a}ndischen Skizzen, digital. Das Model der Gondel wurde aus diesen Daten 3D gedruckt und die Darstellung der Tragh{\"u}lle ebenfalls auf Grundlage dieser Daten gelasert. Aeroux m{\"o}chte Lust auf alternatives Sehen, Denken und Handeln machen. Es gilt viel zu bewegen.},

  abstract  = {Using scenarios is vital in identifying and specifying measures for successfully transforming the energy system. Such transformations can be particularly challenging and require the support of a broader set of stakeholders. Otherwise, there will be opposition in the form of reluctance to adopt the necessary technologies. Usually, processes for considering stakeholders' perspectives are very time-consuming and costly. In particular, there are uncertainties about how to deal with modifications in the scenarios. In principle, new consulting processes will be required. In our study, we show how multi-criteria decision analysis can be used to analyze stakeholders' attitudes toward transition paths. Since stakeholders differ regarding their preferences and time horizons, we employ a multi-criteria decision analysis approach to identify which stakeholders will support or oppose a transition path. We provide a flexible template for analyzing stakeholder preferences toward transition paths. This flexibility comes from the fact that our multi-criteria decision aid-based approach does not involve intensive empirical work with stakeholders. Instead, it involves subjecting assumptions to robustness analysis, which can help identify options to influence stakeholders' attitudes toward transitions.},

  abstract  = {The steel industry in the European Union (EU), important for the economy as a whole, faces various challenges. These are inter alia volatile prices for relevant input factors, uncertainties concerning the regulation of CO₂-emissions and market shocks caused by the recently introduced additional import duties in the US, which is an important sales market. We examine primary and secondary effects of these challenges on the steel industry in the EU and their impacts on European and global level. Developing and using a suitable meta-model, we analyze the competitiveness of key steel producing countries with respect to floor prices depending on selected cost factors and draw conclusions on the impacts in the trade of steel on emissions, energy demand, on the involvement of developing countries in the value chain as well on the need for innovations to avoid relocations of production. Hence, our study contributes to the assessment of sustainable industrial development, which is aimed by the Sustainability Development Goal "Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation countries". By applying information on country-specific Human Development Indexes (reflecting aspects of life expectancy, education, and per capita income), we show that relocating energy-intensive industries from the EU may not only increase global energy demand and CO₂-emissions, but may also be to the disadvantage of developing countries.},

  abstract  = {Objectives To assess the image quality of T2-weighted (T2w) magnetic resonance imaging of the prostate and the visibility of prostate cancer at 7 Tesla (T). Materials \& methods Seventeen prostate cancer patients underwent T2w imaging at 7T with only an external transmit/receive array coil. Three radiologists independently scored images for image quality, visibility of anatomical structures, and presence of artefacts. Krippendorff's alpha and weighted kappa statistics were used to assess inter-observer agreement. Visibility of prostate cancer lesions was assessed by directly linking the T2w images to the confirmed location of prostate cancer on histopathology. Results T2w imaging at 7T was achievable with 'satisfactory' (3/5) to 'good' (4/5) quality. Visibility of anatomical structures was predominantly scored as 'satisfactory' (3/5) and 'good' (4/5). If artefacts were present, they were mostly motion artefacts and, to a lesser extent, aliasing artefacts and noise. Krippendorff's analysis revealed an α = 0.44 between three readers for the overall image quality scores. Clinically significant cancer lesions in both peripheral zone and transition zone were visible at 7T. Conclusion T2w imaging with satisfactory to good quality can be routinely acquired, and cancer lesions were visible in patients with prostate cancer at 7T using only an external transmit/receive body array coil.},

Mit Hilfe der Applikation bekommen Konsumenten die richtige Gr{\"o}ße auch beim Onlineshopping angezeigt und t{\"a}tigen so weniger Fehlk{\"a}ufe.   abstract  = {Landslides, rock falls or related subaerial and subaqueous mass slides can generate devastating impulse waves in adjacent waterbodies. Such waves can occur in lakes and fjords, or due to glacier calving in bays or at steep ocean coastlines. Infrastructure and residential houses along coastlines of those waterbodies are often situated on low elevation terrain, and are potentially at risk from inundation. Impulse waves, running up a uniform slope and generating an overland flow over an initially dry adjacent horizontal plane, represent a frequently found scenario, which needs to be better understood for disaster planning and mitigation. This study presents a novel set of large-scale flume test focusing on solitary waves propagating over a 1:14.5 slope and breaking onto a horizontal section. Examining the characteristics of overland flow, this study gives, for the first time, insight into the fundamental process of overland flow of a broken solitary wave: its shape and celerity, as well as its momentum when wave breaking has taken place beforehand.},

Das Projekt pr{\"a}sentiert L{\"o}sungsans{\"a}tze, wie herk{\"o}mmliche Rohstoffe durch verarbeiteten Bambus erg{\"a}nzt bzw. ersetzt werden k{\"o}nnen. Dadurch kann ein entscheidender Beitrag zur Bek{\"a}mpfung des Klimawandels geleistet werden. Bambus bietet dahingehend viele M{\"o}glichkeiten. Bei richtiger Verarbeitung vereint er viele der geforderten Anspr{\"u}che nachhaltigen Bauens. Der Rohstoff ist stark und flexibel zugleich. Er bindet Kohlenstoff, reinigt kontaminierte B{\"o}den, beugt Erosionen vor und weist eine nahezu negative CO2-Bilanz auf.   abstract  = {Quantifying and minimizing uncertainty is vital for simulating technically and economically successful geothermal reservoirs. To this end, we apply a stochastic modelling sequence, a Monte Carlo study, based on (i) creating an ensemble of possible realizations of a reservoir model, (ii) forward simulation of fluid flow and heat transport, and (iii) constraining post-processing using observed state variables. To generate the ensemble, we use the stochastic algorithm of Sequential Gaussian Simulation and test its potential fitting rock properties, such as thermal conductivity and permeability, of a synthetic reference model and—performing a corresponding forward simulation—state variables such as temperature. The ensemble yields probability distributions of rock properties and state variables at any location inside the reservoir. In addition, we perform a constraining post-processing in order to minimize the uncertainty of the obtained distributions by conditioning the ensemble to observed state variables, in this case temperature. This constraining post-processing works particularly well on systems dominated by fluid flow. The stochastic modelling sequence is applied to a large, steady-state 3-D heat flow model of a reservoir in The Hague, Netherlands. The spatial thermal conductivity distribution is simulated stochastically based on available logging data. Errors of bottom-hole temperatures provide thresholds for the constraining technique performed afterwards. This reduce the temperature uncertainty for the proposed target location significantly from 25 to 12 K (full distribution width) in a depth of 2300 m. Assuming a Gaussian shape of the temperature distribution, the standard deviation is 1.8 K. To allow a more comprehensive approach to quantify uncertainty, we also implement the stochastic simulation of boundary conditions and demonstrate this for the basal specific heat flow in the reservoir of The Hague. As expected, this results in a larger distribution width and hence, a larger, but more realistic uncertainty estimate. However, applying the constraining post-processing the uncertainty is again reduced to the level of the post-processing without stochastic boundary simulation. Thus, constraining post-processing is a suitable tool for reducing uncertainty estimates by observed state variables.},

  abstract  = {Following earlier studies, we present forward and inverse simulations of heat and fluid transport of the upper crust using a local 3-D model of the Kola area. We provide best estimates for palaeotemperatures and permeabilities, their errors and their dependencies. Our results allow discriminating between the two mentioned processes to a certain extent, partly resolving the non-uniqueness of the problem. We find clear indications for a significant contribution of advective heat transport, which, in turn, imply only slightly lower ground surface temperatures during the last glacial maximum relative to the present value. These findings are consistent with the general background knowledge of (i) the fracture zones and the corresponding fluid movements in the bedrock and (ii) the glacial history of the Kola area.},

  abstract  = {Geld-zur{\"u}ck-Garantien erlangen in der Unternehmenspraxis eine immer gr{\"o}ßere Bedeutung, vor allem weil sie als probates Mittel zur Signalisierung hochwertiger Qualit{\"a}t angesehen werden - eine Annahme, die bislang wissenschaftlich ungepr{\"u}ft geblieben ist. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird im vorliegenden Beitrag eine umfassende empirische Untersuchung der kaufverhaltensrelevanten Wirkungen dieses Marketinginstrumentes vorgenommen. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichen zum einen, dass eine Geld-zur{\"u}ck-Garantie nur unter bestimmten Bedingungen als Qualit{\"a}tssignal wirkt. Dies h{\"a}ngt neben der Art des Produktes (Erfahrungs- vs. Suchgut) insbesondere von der Auspr{\"a}gung des f{\"u}r die Qualit{\"a}tsbeurteilung besonders diagnostischen Merkmals Marke sowie von der Produktkenntnis der Konsumenten ab. Zum anderen zeigt sich aber auch, dass eine Geld-zur{\"u}ck-Garantie affektive Konsumentenreaktionen ausl{\"o}st, die die Kaufabsicht von Konsumenten zus{\"a}tzlich erh{\"o}hen k{\"o}nnen. Zusammenfassend stellen wir fest, dass eine Geld-zur{\"u}ck-Garantie - entgegen bisheriger Erwartungen aus der Praxis - nicht zwingend ein Qualit{\"a}tsindikator ist, stattdessen entfaltet sie aber bisher unbeachtete affektive Wirkungen, die insbesondere auf ihre absichernde Funktion von etwaigen Fehlentscheidungen beim Kauf zur{\"u}ckzuf{\"u}hren sind.},

  abstract  = {Having well-defined control strategies for fuel cells, that can efficiently detect errors and take corrective action is critically important for safety in all applications, and especially so in aviation. The algorithms not only ensure operator safety by monitoring the fuel cell and connected components, but also contribute to extending the health of the fuel cell, its durability and safe operation over its lifetime. While sensors are used to provide peripheral data surrounding the fuel cell, the internal states of the fuel cell cannot be directly measured. To overcome this restriction, Kalman Filter has been implemented as an internal state observer. Other safety conditions are evaluated using real-time data from every connected sensor and corrective actions automatically take place to ensure safety. The algorithms discussed in this paper have been validated thorough Model-in-the-Loop (MiL) tests as well as practical validation at a dedicated test bench.},

Da einige unserer Emotionen als „schlecht" oder „negativ" wahrgenommen werden, erlauben wir uns oft nicht, sie zu f{\"u}hlen, und wir unterdr{\"u}cken sie. Ziel dieses Projekts ist es, mithilfe von Fotografie und Grafik zu zeigen, wie man mit unangenehmen und so genannten „negativen" Emotionen umgehen kann. Der Schwerpunkt liegt gleichermaßen auf dem konzeptionellen und kreativen Teil. Dabei wurden ein Modell und wechselnde Farblichter verwendet, um die emotionalen Zust{\"a}nde einer Person darzustellen, die diese Transformation durchl{\"a}uft. Ein weiteres Ziel ist es, die Bedeutung eines bewussteren Umgangs mit unseren Emotionen zu betonen. Das Endmedium ist ein Fotobuch inkl.   abstract  = {Stored and cooled, highly-charged ions offer unprecedented capabilities for precision studies in the realm of atomic, nuclear structure and astrophysics[1]. After the successful investigation of the 96Ru(p,7)97Rh reaction cross section in 2009[2], the first measurement of the 124Xe(p,7)125Cs reaction cross section has been performed with decelerated, fully-ionized 124Xe ions in 2016 at the Experimental Storage Ring (ESR) of GSI[3]. Using a Double Sided Silicon Strip Detector, introduced directly into the ultra-high vacuum environment of a storage ring, the 125Cs proton-capture products have been successfully detected. The cross section has been measured at 5 different energies between 5.5AMeV and 8AMeV, on the high energy tail of the Gamow-window for hot, explosive scenarios such as supernovae and X-ray binaries. The elastic scattering on the H2 gas jet target is the major source of background to count the (p,7) events. Monte Carlo simulations show that an additional slit system in the ESR in combination with the energy information of the Si detector will enable background free measurements of the proton-capture products. The corresponding hardware is being prepared and will increase the sensitivity of the method tremendously.},
