  abstract  = {Architecture is a university subject with educational roots in both the technical university and art/specialized architecture schools, yet it lacks a strong research orientation and is focused on professional expertise. This chapter explores the particular role of research within architectural education in general by discussing two different cases for the implementation of undergraduate research in architecture: during the late 1990s and early 2000s at the University of Sheffield, UK, and during the 2010s at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. These examples illustrate the asynchronous beginnings of similar developments, and also contextualize differences in disciplinary habitus and pedagogical approaches between Sheffield, where research impulses stemmed from within the Architectural Humanities, and Aachen with its strong tradition as a technical university.},

  abstract  = {The successful implementation and continuous development of sustainable corporate-level solutions is a challenge. These are endeavours in which social, environmental, and financial aspects must be weighed against each other. They can prove difficult to handle and, in some cases, almost unrealistic. Concepts such as green controlling, IT, and manufacturing look promising and are constantly evolving. This paper aims to achieve a better understanding of the field of corporate sustainability (CS). It will evaluate the hypothesis by which Corporate Sustainability thrives, via being efficient, increasing the performance, and raising the value of the input of the enterprises to the resources used. In fact, Corporate Sustainability on the surface could seem to contradict the idea, which supports the understanding that it encourages the reduction of the heavy reliance on the use of natural resources, the overall environmental impact, and above all, their protection. To understand how the contradictory notion of CS came about, in this part of the paper, the emphasis is placed on providing useful insight to this regard. The first part of this paper summarizes various definitions, organizational theories, and measures used for CS and its derivatives like green controlling, IT, and manufacturing. Second, a case study is given that combines the aforementioned sustainability models. In addition to evaluating the hypothesis, the overarching objective of this paper is to demonstrate the use of green controlling, IT, and manufacturing in the corporate sector. Furthermore, this paper outlines the current challenges and possible directions for CS in the future.},

  abstract  = {We conducted a scoping review for active learning in the domain of natural language processing (NLP), which we summarize in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines as follows: Objective: Identify active learning strategies that were proposed for entity recognition and their evaluation environments (datasets, metrics, hardware, execution time). Design: We used Scopus and ACM as our search engines. We compared the results with two literature surveys to assess the search quality. We included peer-reviewed English publications introducing or comparing active learning strategies for entity recognition. Results: We analyzed 62 relevant papers and identified 106 active learning strategies. We grouped them into three categories: exploitation-based (60x), exploration-based (14x), and hybrid strategies (32x). We found that all studies used the F1-score as an evaluation metric. Information about hardware (6x) and execution time (13x) was only occasionally included. The 62 papers used 57 different datasets to evaluate their respective strategies. Most datasets contained newspaper articles or biomedical/medical data. Our analysis revealed that 26 out of 57 datasets are publicly accessible. Conclusion: Numerous active learning strategies have been identified, along with significant open questions that still need to be addressed. Researchers and practitioners face difficulties when making data-driven decisions about which active learning strategy to adopt. Conducting comprehensive empirical comparisons using the evaluation environment proposed in this study could help establish best practices in the domain.},

  abstract  = {As researchers continue to seek the expansion of the material base for additive manufacturing, there is a need to focus attention on the Ni-Cu group of alloys which conventionally has wide industrial applications. In this work, the G-NiCu30Nb casting alloy, a variant of the Monel family of alloys with Nb and high Si content is, for the first time, processed via the laser powder bed fusion process (LPBF). Being novel to the LPBF processes, optimum LPBF parameters were determined, and hardness and tensile tests were performed in as-built conditions and after heat treatment at 1000 °C. Microstructures of the as-cast and the as-built condition were compared. Highly dense samples (99.8\% density) were achieved after varying hatch distance (80 µm and 140 µm) with scanning speed (550 mm/s-1500 mm/s). There was no significant difference in microhardness between varied hatch distance print sets. Microhardness of the as-built condition (247 HV0.2) exceeded the as-cast microhardness (179 HV0.2.). Tensile specimens built in vertical (V) and horizontal (H) orientations revealed degrees of anisotropy and were superior to conventionally reported figures. Post heat treatment increased ductility from 20\% to 31\% (V), as well as from 16\% to 25\% (H), while ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and yield strength (YS) were considerably reduced.},

The potential of social media platforms is also being used for marketing purposes and for selling products. While for Facebook and other online social media platforms the purchase decision factors are investigated several times, Instagram stores remain mainly unattended so far. The present research work closes this gap and sheds light into decisive factors for purchasing products offered in Instagram stores. A theoretical research model, which contains selected constructs that are assumed to have a significant influence on Instagram user´s purchase intention, is developed. The hypotheses are evaluated by applying structural equation modelling on survey data containing 127 relevant participants. The results of the study reveal that 'trust', 'personal recommendation', and 'usability' significantly influences user's buying intention in Instagram stores.},

  abstract  = {Architects and civil engineers work together regularly during their professional days and are irreplaceable for each other. This co-operation is sometimes made more difficult by the differences in their disciplinary languages and approaches. Structures are evaluated by architects on the basis of criteria such as spatial impact and usability, while civil engineers analyze them more closely by their bearing and deformation properties, as well as by constructive aspects. This diversity of assessment criteria and approaches is often continued in both academic disciplines in the view on structures. Within the framework of the Exploratory Teaching Space (ETS), a funding program to improve teaching at RWTH Aachen University and to promote new teaching concepts, a project was carried out jointly by the Junior Professorship of Tool-Culture at the Faculty of Architecture and the Institute of Structural Concrete at the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The aim of the project is to present buildings in such a way that the differences in perception between architects and civil engineers are reduced and the common understanding is promoted. The project develops a database, which contains a collection of striking buildings from Aachen and the surrounding area. The buildings are categorized according to terms that come from both disciplinary areas. The collection can be freely explored or crossed through learning trails. The medium of film plays a special role in presenting the buildings. The buildings are assigned to different categories of load bearing structures as linear, planar and spatial structures, and further to different types of material, functional programs and spatial characteristics. Since the buildings are located in the direct vicinity of Aachen, they can be visited by the students. This makes them more sensitive to their environment. Intrinsic motivation, as well as implicit learning is encouraged. The paper will provide a detailed report of the project, its implementation, the feedback of the students and the plans for further development.},

Dieses lebendige Netzwerk kann dazu genutzt werden, um organische Stoffe miteinander zu verwachsen und somit Formen entstehen zu lassen. Die so entstandenen Produkte sind in eine Konzeptumgebung eingebettet, in der der Verbrauchende die Natur durch naturn{\"a}here Produkte (Form, Material und gewachsene Strukturen) neu erlebt. Die Bachelorarbeit „Ekatharina - Leben in der Trudarmee" behandelt den Lebensabschnitt einer {\"U}berlebenden, der Urgroßmutter der Autorin, in Form eines Graphic Novels. In der Trudarmee, auch Arbeitsarmee genannt, musste sie unter schweren Bedingungen Zwangsarbeit verrichten, wie arbeiten in der Schmiede, B{\"a}ume f{\"a}llen oder St{\"a}mme schleppen. Das Projekt soll nicht nur die Erinnerungen und das kulturelle Gut bewahren, es soll auch die Familiengeschichte erforschen, die Vergangenheit verst{\"a}ndlich gestalten und die beteiligten Personen in Ehren halten.},

While success factors for non-IT start-ups have already been extensively researched, this study sheds light on digital entrepreneurs, whose business model relies primarily on services based on digital technologies. Applying the Grounded Theory method, we identify relevant environmental success factors for digital entrepreneurs. The study's research contribution is threefold. First, we provide 16 relevant and less relevant environmental success factors, which enables a comparison with prior identified factors. We found out that several prior environmental success factors, such as accessibility to transportation or the availability of land and facilities are less relevant for a digital entrepreneur. Second, we derive and discuss hypotheses for the influence of these factors on digital start-up success. Third, we present a theoretical model that lays the foundation for explaining the environmental influence on digital entrepreneurship success.},

  abstract  = {In light of emerging challenges in energy systems, markets are prone to changing dynamics and market design. Simulation models are commonly used to understand the changing dynamics of future electricity markets. However, existing market models were often created with specific use cases in mind, which limits their flexibility and usability. This can impose challenges for using a single model to compare different market designs. This paper introduces a new method of defining market designs for energy market simulations. The proposed concept makes it easy to incorporate different market designs into electricity market models by using relevant parameters derived from analyzing existing simulation tools, morphological categorization and ontologies. These parameters are then used to derive a market abstraction and integrate it into an agent-based simulation framework, allowing for a unified analysis of diverse market designs. Furthermore, we showcase the usability of integrating new types of long-term contracts and over-the-counter trading. To validate this approach, two case studies are demonstrated: a pay-as-clear market and a pay-as-bid long-term market. These examples demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed framework.},

  abstract  = {Due to the transition to renewable energies, electricity markets need to be made fit for purpose. To enable the comparison of different energy market designs, modeling tools covering market actors and their heterogeneous behavior are needed. Agent-based models are ideally suited for this task. Such models can be used to simulate and analyze changes to market design or market mechanisms and their impact on market dynamics. In this paper, we conduct an evaluation and comparison of two actively developed open-source energy market simulation models. The two models, namely AMIRIS and ASSUME, are both designed to simulate future energy markets using an agent-based approach. The assessment encompasses modelling features and techniques, model performance, as well as a comparison of model results, which can serve as a blueprint for future comparative studies of simulation models. The main comparison dataset includes data of Germany in 2019 and simulates the Day-Ahead market and participating actors as individual agents. Both models are comparable close to the benchmark dataset with a MAE between 5.6 and 6.4 €/MWh while also modeling the actual dispatch realistically.},

Unfortunately, in many cases, the data is not available under a permissivelicense corresponding to the FAIR principles, often lacking accessibility or reusability.Furthermore, the source format often differs from the desired data format or does notmeet the demands to be queried in an efficient way. To solve this on a small scale atoolbox for ETL-processes is provided to create a local energy data server with openaccess data from different valuable sources in a structured format. So while the sourcesitself do not fully comply with the FAIR principles, the provided unique toolbox allows foran efficient processing of the data as if the FAIR principles would be met. The energydata server currently includes information of power systems, weather data, networkfrequency data, European energy and gas data for demand and generation and more.However, a solution to the core problem - missing alignment to the FAIR principles - isstill needed for the National Research Data Infrastructure.},

Das Ziel dieses Projektes ist es daher, eine 3D-K{\"o}rperscan-App zu erstellen. Mit dieser ist es m{\"o}glich, einen auf die eigenen K{\"o}rpermaße angepassten Avatar zu erstellen und eine angepasste Stilberatung f{\"u}r die jeweilige K{\"o}rperform angeboten zu bekommen. Zudem gibt es eine Applikation in Form eines Software Development Kits, welches in Onlineshops eingebunden werden kann. Mit Hilfe der Applikation bekommen Konsumenten die richtige Gr{\"o}ße auch beim Onlineshopping angezeigt und t{\"a}tigen so weniger Fehlk{\"a}ufe. Dies bringt nicht nur Vorteile f{\"u}r die Umwelt mit sich und den Unternehmen eine massive Kostenersparnis durch die Einsparung von Retouren, M{\"u}ll und Personal, sondern schlussendlich auch eine zufriedenere Kundschaft.},

Die DSD bietet neben der Denkmalerhaltung auch Bildungsangebote f{\"u}r Jung und Alt an, wie auch Veranstaltungen f{\"u}r die Bewusstseinsbildung im Denkmalschutz. Als Sprachrohr zwischen der Stiftung und den F{\"o}rdernden dient das Magazin MONUMENTE. Denkmalschutz mag f{\"u}r manche uninteressant und eingestaubt wirken, da die Besch{\"a}ftigung mit bereits Bestehendem und das Verhindern von Verfall belanglos sein k{\"o}nnte. Weiß man allerdings {\"u}ber die Bedeutung f{\"u}r Kultur, Gesellschaft und Wirtschaft, so macht Denkmalschutz eine essenzielle Komponente unserer Kulturlandschaft aus. Die Auseinandersetzung mit der DSD soll das herausstellen und das Bewusstsein f{\"u}r diesen kulturellen Bestandteil des Denkmalschutzes vertiefen. },

Die Fotografien sind inspiriert durch das japanische Kunstgenre Ukiyo-e, was w{\"o}rtlich {\"u}bersetzt etwa „Bilder der heiteren, fließenden Welt" heißt. Die Gestaltung des Bildbandes orientiert sich an verschiedenen japanischen Stilmitteln, wie zum Beispiel Wabi-Sabi (die Sch{\"o}nheit im Unvollkommenen) und Mono no aware (eine melancholische Mischung aus Freude, Trauer und Hinnahme). „UKIYO" nimmt die Betrachter mit auf eine kleine Reise durch die fließende Welt. },

As the Human Development Index provides insight into a country's cultural and socio-economic characteristics and development in addition to economic indicators, it allows a comparison of the two countries. The hypothesis presented and discussed in this paper was researched before. A qualitative research approach was used in the author's master's thesis "The Human Development Index (HDI) as a Reflection of Resource Abundance (using Nigeria and Norway as a case study)" in 2018. The management of scarce resources is an important aspect in the development of modern countries and those on the threshold of becoming industrialised nations. The effects of a mistaken resource management are not only of a purely economic nature but also of a social and socio-economic nature. In order to present a partial aspect of these dependencies and influences this paper uses a quantitative analysis to examine the interdependence and impact of resource rents on socio-economic development from 2002 to 2017. Nigeria and Norway have been chosen as reference countries due to their abundance of natural resources by similar economic performance, while the ranking in the Human Development Index differs significantly. As the Human Development Index provides insight into a country's cultural and socio-economic characteristics and development in addition to economic indicators, it allows a comparison of the two countries. This paper found out in a holistic perspective that (not or poorly managed) resource wealth in itself has a negative impact on socio-economic development and significantly reduces the productivity of the citizens of a state. This is expressed in particular for the years 2002 till 2017 in a negative correlation of GDP per capita and HDI value with the share respectively the size of resources in the GDP of a country.},

  abstract  = {This dissertation uses in first stage a macroeconomic investigation to examine the dependence, influence and corruption of socio-economic development through effects of sustainability and resource management. The conducted research found that the state's dependence on its citizens decreases when the state's sources of revenue are largely detached and independent of the citizens' financial resources. In this case, financial resources are taxes and duties provided by the citizens. One possible consequence is the restriction of state investment in its citizens. Both the qualitative literature review and the quantitative data analysis revealed a negative correlation between socio-economic development and the resource economy's share of GDP for the period under study. The microeconomic investigation was primarily conducted through an intensive literature review. It was shown that the rebound effect as such is already very well researched. However, it also became clear that avoidance strategies for the rebound effect and links to sustainability initiatives are scarce or non-existent. The need for a redesign of the impact analysis with regard to technological innovations and their influence on resource consumption and resource management has become clear on the basis of the present study. Further, emerging and developing countries in particular, which will be confronted in the foreseeable future not only with the fundamental problems of resource abundance in the overall economic context, but also with the issues of their sustainable use, should be confronted with these problems as early as possible in order to find solutions in a timely manner.},

  abstract  = {Today's society is undergoing a paradigm shift driven by the megatrend of sustainability. This undeniably affects all areas of Western life. This paper aims to find out how the luxury industry is dealing with this change and what adjustments are made by the companies. For this purpose, interviews were conducted with managers from the luxury industry, in which they were asked about specific measures taken by their companies as well as trends in the industry. In a subsequent evaluation, the trends in the luxury industry were summarized for the areas of ecological, social, and economic sustainability. It was found that the area of environmental sustainability is significantly more focused than the other sub-areas. Furthermore, the need for a customer survey to validate the industry-based measures was identified.},

  abstract  = {Against the background of growing data in everyday life, data processing tools become more powerful to deal with the increasing complexity in building design. The architectural planning process is offered a variety of new instruments to design, plan and communicate planning decisions. Ideally the access to information serves to secure and document the quality of the building and in the worst case, the increased data absorbs time by collection and processing without any benefit for the building and its user. Process models can illustrate the impact of information on the design- and planning process so that architect and planner can steer the process. This paper provides historic and contemporary models to visualize the architectural planning process and introduces means to describe today's situation consisting of stakeholders, events and instruments. It explains conceptions during Renaissance in contrast to models used in the second half of the 20th century. Contemporary models are discussed regarding their value against the background of increasing computation in the building process.},
