Additionally, in bioelectrochemical systems (BES), cell appendages have been shown to participate in extracellular electron transfer. In this work, the cell appendix formation of Clostridium acetobutylicum in biofilms of a BES are imaged and compared with conventional biofilms. Under all observed conditions, the cells possess filamentous appendages with a higher number and density in the BES. Differences in the amount of extracellular polymeric substance in the biofilms of the electrodes lead to the conclusion that the cathode can be used as electron donor and the anode as electron acceptor by C. acetobutylicum. For this reason, companies and institutions tackle the integration of a diversity management approach that enables a heterogenic perspective on innovation development. However, system-theoretical frameworks state that the implementation of diversity measures that are not tailored to the needs of the organization often leads to a rejection or reactivity with regard to the management approach. In this context, especially organizations, which are characterized by a specific hierarchical structure, a dominant habitus or specialist culture, must face the challenge of realizing a sustainable change of the corporate culture that sets the basis for implementing diversity management approaches. The presented research project focuses on analyzing the situation in a huge scientific collaborative project - so called Cluster of Excellence (CoE) - with the aim to implement a diversity - and innovation management strategy. Considering the influencing determinants, the CoE is characterized by its embeddedness in the scientific system, a complex organizational structure, and a high fluctuation rate. The paper presents a systemic approach of reflecting these factors in order to develop a diversity- and innovation management strategy. In this frame, the results of a quantitative survey of CoE employees and derived mindset-types are presented. The results show a need for taking different mindset-types into account, to be able to develop a tailored management strategy. The aim of the project is to give recommendations for developing a sustainable management concept that promotes both diversity and innovation by drawing on the persisting mindsets of organization members while reflecting top down as well as bottom up factors of implementation processes as well as the psychology of change. The findings allow an empirical based geometry-build up for a complete unmanned aircraft by referring to its take-off mass only. This provides a bridge between very early design stages (initial sizing) and the later determination of shapes and dimensions. Wind storms often cause irreparable damage to the buildings which are exposed to it. Along with the earthquakes, wind represents one of the most common environmental load on structures and is relevant for limit state design. Modern wind codes indicate calculation procedures allowing engineers to deal with structural systems, which are susceptible to conduct wind-excited oscillations. In the codes approximate formulas for wind buffeting are specified which relate the dynamic problem to rather abstract parameter functions. The complete theory behind is not visible in order to simplify the applicability of the procedures. This chapter derives the underlying basic relations of the spectral method for wind buffeting and explains the main important applications of it in order to elucidate part of the theoretical background of computations after the new codes. The stochasticity of the wind processes is addressed, and the analysis of analytical as well as measurement based power spectra is outlined. Short MATLAB codes are added to the Appendix 3 which carry out the computation of a single sided auto-spectrum from a statistically stationary, discrete stochastic process. Drawing on the state of the art in research and technology in the field of cyber-physical systems (CPS) as well as digital twins and shadows, our work serves to design a system of systems for the horizontal interconnection of a rail vehicle and to conceptualize a draft for a digital twin of a locomotive.}, language = {en} } @article{CornelisGivanoudiYongabietal.2019, author = {Cornelis, Peter and Givanoudi, Stella and Yongabi, Derick and Iken, Heiko and Duw{\´e}, Sam and Deschaume, Olivier and Robbens, Johan and Dedecker, Peter and Bartic, Carmen and W{\"u}bbenhorst, Michael and Sch{\"o}ning, Michael Josef and Heyndrickx, Marc and Wagner, Patrick}, title = {Sensitive and specific detection of E. coli using biomimetic receptors in combination with a modified heat-transfer method}, series = {Biosensors and Bioelectronics}, volume = {136}, journal = {Biosensors and Bioelectronics}, publisher = {Elsevier}, address = {Amsterdam}, issn = {0956-5663}, doi = {10.1016/j.bios.2019.04.026}, pages = {97 -- 105}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{BraunChengLaietal.2019, author = {Braun, Sebastian and Cheng, Chi-Tsun and Lai, Chow Yin and Wollert, J{\"o}rg}, title = {Microservice Architecture for Automation - Realization by the example of a model-factory's manufacturing execution system}, series = {Proceedings of the 23rd World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics: WMSCI 2019}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 23rd World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics: WMSCI 2019}, pages = {33 -- 37}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{HorikawaOkadaUtoetal.2019, author = {Horikawa, Atsushi and Okada, Kunio and Uto, Takahiro and Uchiyama, Yuta and Wirsum, Manfred and Funke, Harald and Kusterer, Karsten}, title = {Application of Low NOx Micro-mix Hydrogen Combustion to 2MW Class Industrial Gas Turbine Combustor}, series = {Proceedings of International Gas Turbine Congress 2019 Tokyo, November 17-22, 2019, Tokyo, Japan}, booktitle = {Proceedings of International Gas Turbine Congress 2019 Tokyo, November 17-22, 2019, Tokyo, Japan}, isbn = {978-4-89111-010-9}, pages = {1 -- 6}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{SlabuRoethEngelmannetal.2019, author = {Slabu, Ioana and Roeth, Anjali A. and Engelmann, Ulrich M. and Wiekhorst, Frank and Buhl, Eva M. and Neumann, Ulf P. and Schmitz-Rode, Thomas}, title = {Modeling of magnetoliposome uptake in human pancreatic tumor cells in vitro}, series = {Nanotechnology}, volume = {30}, journal = {Nanotechnology}, number = {18}, issn = {1361-6528}, doi = {10.1088/1361-6528/ab033e}, pages = {184004}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{EngelmannShashaTeemanetal.2019, author = {Engelmann, Ulrich M. and Shasha, Carolyn and Teeman, Eric and Slabu, Iona and Krishnan, Kannan M.}, title = {Predicting size-dependent heating efficiency of magnetic nanoparticles from experiment and stochastic N{\´e}el-Brown Langevin simulation}, series = {Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials}, volume = {471}, journal = {Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials}, number = {1}, publisher = {Elsevier}, address = {Amsterdam}, issn = {0304-8853}, doi = {10.1016/j.jmmm.2018.09.041}, pages = {450 -- 456}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{EngelmannSeifertMuesetal.2019, author = {Engelmann, Ulrich M. and Seifert, Julian and Mues, Benedikt and Roitsch, Stefan and M{\´e}nager, Christine and Schmidt, Annette M. and Slabu, Ioana}, title = {Heating efficiency of magnetic nanoparticles decreases with gradual immobilization in hydrogels}, series = {Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials}, volume = {471}, journal = {Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials}, number = {1}, publisher = {Elsevier}, address = {Amsterdam}, issn = {0304-8853}, doi = {10.1016/j.jmmm.2018.09.113}, pages = {486 -- 494}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @article{DantismRoehlenWagneretal.2019, author = {Dantism, Shahriar and R{\"o}hlen, Desiree and Wagner, Torsten and Wagner, P. and Sch{\"o}ning, Michael Josef}, title = {A LAPS-based differential sensor for parallelized metabolism monitoring of various bacteria}, series = {Sensors}, volume = {19}, journal = {Sensors}, number = {21}, publisher = {MDPI}, address = {Basel}, issn = {1424-8220}, doi = {10.3390/s19214692}, pages = {Artikel 4692}, year = {2019}, abstract = {Monitoring the cellular metabolism of bacteria in (bio)fermentation processes is crucial to control and steer them, and to prevent undesired disturbances linked to metabolically inactive microorganisms. In this context, cell-based biosensors can play an important role to improve the quality and increase the yield of such processes. This work describes the simultaneous analysis of the metabolic behavior of three different types of bacteria by means of a differential light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS) set-up. The study includes Lactobacillus brevis, Corynebacterium glutamicum, and Escherichia coli, which are often applied in fermentation processes in bioreactors. Differential measurements were carried out to compensate undesirable influences such as sensor signal drift, and pH value variation during the measurements. Furthermore, calibration curves of the cellular metabolism were established as a function of the glucose concentration or cell number variation with all three model microorganisms. In this context, simultaneous (bio)sensing with the multi-organism LAPS-based set-up can open new possibilities for a cost-effective, rapid detection of the extracellular acidification of bacteria on a single sensor chip. It can be applied to evaluate the metabolic response of bacteria populations in a (bio)fermentation process, for instance, in the biogas fermentation process.}, language = {en} } @article{KarschuckFilipovBollellaetal.2019, author = {Karschuck, T. While some of the logic gates, particularly OR, AND, are easy to realize with biocatalytic reactions and have been reported in numerous publications, some other, like NXOR, are very challenging and have not been realized yet with enzyme reactions. The paper reports on a novel approach to mimicking the NXOR logic gate using the bell-shaped enzyme activity dependent on pH values. Shifting pH from the optimum value to the acidic or basic values by using acid or base inputs (meaning 1,0 and 0,1 inputs) inhibits the enzyme reaction, while keeping the optimum pH (assuming 0,0 and 1,1 input combinations) preserves a high enzyme activity. The challenging part of the present approach is the selection of an enzyme with a well-demonstrated bell-shape activity dependence on the pH value. While many enzymes can satisfy this condition, we selected pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ)-dependent glucose dehydrogenase as this enzyme has the optimum pH center-located on the pH scale allowing the enzyme activity change by the acidic and basic pH shift from the optimum value corresponding to the highest activity. The present NXOR gate is added to the biomolecular "toolbox" as a new example of Boolean logic gates based on enzyme reactions.}, language = {en} } @phdthesis{Engelmann2019, author = {Engelmann, Ulrich M.}, title = {Assessing magnetic fluid hyperthermia : magnetic relaxation simulation, modeling of nanoparticle uptake inside pancreatic tumor cells and in vitro efficacy}, publisher = {Infinite Science Publishing}, address = {L{\"u}beck}, isbn = {978-3-945954-58-4}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{GerhardsSchleserOttenetal.2019, author = {Gerhards, Benjamin and Schleser, Markus and Otten,, Christian and Schwarz, Alexander and Gebhardt, Andreas}, title = {Innovative Laser Beam Joining Technology for Additive Manufactured Parts}, series = {Conference Proceedings 72nd IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference, 7-12 July 2019, Bratislava}, booktitle = {Conference Proceedings 72nd IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference, 7-12 July 2019, Bratislava}, pages = {1 -- 8}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{GerhardsSchleserOtten2019, author = {Gerhards, Benjamin and Schleser, Markus and Otten, Christian}, title = {Advancements of mobile vacuum laser welding for industrial thick sheet applications}, series = {Conference Proceedings 72nd IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference, 7-12 July 2019, Bratislava}, booktitle = {Conference Proceedings 72nd IIW Annual Assembly and International Conference, 7-12 July 2019, Bratislava}, pages = {1 -- 8}, year = {2019}, language = {en} } @inproceedings{ChavezBermudezWollert2019, author = {Chavez Bermudez, Victor Francisco and Wollert, J{\"o}rg}, title = {Gateway for Automation Controllers and Cloud based Voice Recognition Services}, series = {KommA, 10.
