  abstract  = {The molecular events during nongenotoxic carcinogenesis and their temporal order are poorly understood but thought to include long-lasting perturbations of gene expression. Here, we have investigated the temporal sequence of molecular and pathological perturbations at early stages of phenobarbital (PB) mediated liver tumor promotion in vivo. Molecular profiling (mRNA, microRNA [miRNA], DNA methylation, and proteins) of mouse liver during 13 weeks of PB treatment revealed progressive increases in hepatic expression of long noncoding RNAs and miRNAs originating from the Dlk1-Dio3 imprinted gene cluster, a locus that has recently been associated with stem cell pluripotency in mice and various neoplasms in humans. PB induction of the Dlk1-Dio3 cluster noncoding RNA (ncRNA) Meg3 was localized to glutamine synthetase-positive hypertrophic perivenous hepatocytes, sug- gesting a role for β-catenin signaling in the dysregulation of Dlk1-Dio3 ncRNAs. The carcinogenic relevance of Dlk1-Dio3 locus ncRNA induction was further supported by in vivo genetic dependence on constitutive androstane receptor and β-catenin pathways. Our data identify Dlk1-Dio3 ncRNAs as novel candidate early biomarkers for mouse liver tumor promotion and provide new opportunities for assessing the carcinogenic potential of novel compounds.},

  abstract  = {This thesis introduces the Integrated Emitter Turn-Off (IETO) Thyristor as a new high-power device. Known state-of-the-art research activities like the Dual GCT, the ETO thyristor and the ICT were presented and critically reviewed. A comparison with commercialized solutions identifies the pros and cons of each type of device family. Based on this analysis, the IETO structure is proposed, covering most benefits of each device class. In particular the combination of a MOS-assisted turn-off with a thyristor-based device allows a voltage-controlled MOS switching and the low on-state voltage of the thyristors. The following synthesis of an IETO device stands on a three-dimensional field of optimization spanned by electric, mechanical and thermal aspects. From an electric point of view, the lowest possible parasitic inductance and resistance within the commutation path are optimization criteria. The mechanical construction has to withstand the required contact pressure of multiple kilo Newtons. Finally, thermal borders limit the maximum average current of the device. FEM simulations covering these three aspects are performed for several design proposals. An IETO prototype is constructed and measurements on various test benches attest thermal, mechanical and electric performance. A local decoupling of the external driver stage and the presspack housing is presented by a cable connection. This separation enables a thermal and mechanical independence, which is advantageous in terms of vibrations and thermal cycles including increased reliability. The electric pulse performance of the prototype device is a factor of 3.1 above today''s solutions. In single-pulse measurements, a current up to 1600 A was successfully turned off at 115°C with an active silicon area of 823 mm². One reason for this increased turn-off capability is the extremely low-inductive construction. Additional functionality of the IETO thyristor like over-current self-protection and defined short-circuit failure state are successfully verified.},

Deshalb reicht es nicht aus, wenn sich der Mitarbeiter der Gefahren bewusst ("aware") ist, er muss auch dementsprechend "sicher" handeln.},

  abstract  = {Der Temperaturanstieg der vergangenen Jahrzehnte war in Gebirgsregionen besonders ausgepr{\"a}gt. Sollte sich dieser Temperaturtrend im 21. Jahrhundert fortsetzen, dann d{\"u}rf-ten sich auch die H{\"a}ufigkeit und Intensit{\"a}t von Niederschl{\"a}-gen und Trockenperioden ver{\"a}ndern, was die Waldwirtschaft vor grosse Herausforderungen stellen wird. Trockenheit ist ein entscheidender Faktor f{\"u}r die Wald{\"o}kosysteme der inner-alpinen T{\"a}ler, wo seit Jahren trockenheitsbedingtes Baum-sterben festgestellt wird. Der vorliegende Beitrag hat zum Ziel, die Sensitivit{\"a}t der verschiedenen Wald{\"o}kosysteme ge-gen{\"u}ber Klimawandel und alternative, teilweise extreme Bewirtschaftungsvarianten in der Region Visp zu testen. Me-thodische Ans{\"a}tze wie Monitoring, Feldexperimente und dy-namische Modellierung wurden kombiniert, und es wurden verschiedene {\"O}kosystemleistungen ber{\"u}cksichtigt, so Holz-produktion, Schutz vor Naturgefahren, Kohlenstoffspeiche-rung und Aspekte der Biodiversit{\"a}t. Die Resultate deuten da-rauf hin, dass auf den Trockenstandorten der Tieflagen die einheimischen Baumarten an ihre physiologischen Grenzen stossen und l{\"a}ngerfristig {\"u}ber alternative Baumarten nach-gedacht werden sollte. In den mittleren Lagen d{\"u}rften Tro-ckenheit und Schadinsekten wie die Borkenk{\"a}fer die zuk{\"u}nf-tige Waldentwicklung steuern. In den Hochlagen hingegen werden sich die W{\"a}lder ausdehnen und besser wachsen als heute. Alle untersuchten {\"O}kosystemleistungen werden ge-bietsweise starken Ver{\"a}nderungen unterworfen sein. Die dis-kutierten Bewirtschaftungsvarianten scheinen dazu geeignet, die Wasserverf{\"u}gbarkeit der Best{\"a}nde, haupts{\"a}chlich in tief-eren Lagen, zu erh{\"o}hen und dadurch die Widerstandskraft der B{\"a}ume gegen{\"u}ber Trockenperioden vor{\"u}bergehend zu st{\"a}rken. Es ist aber davon ausgehen, dass nur verh{\"a}ltnism{\"a}s-sig starke Eingriffe wesentliche Effekte erzielen k{\"o}nnen. Die Verkn{\"u}pfung von Umweltmonitoring, Feldexperimenten und Modellierung unter Miteinbezug von {\"O}kosystemleistungen ist vielversprechend, da sie eine differenzierte Absch{\"a}tzung des zuk{\"u}nftigen Landschaftswandels und seiner Effekte auf die Waldleistungen erm{\"o}glicht.},

  abstract  = {Die Hochgradientenmagnetseparation (HGMS) ist eine Methode zur Aufreinigung von biopharmazeutischen Produkten. Mit dieser Methode l{\"a}sst sich in nur einem Schritt eine Fest/Fest/Fl{\"u}ssig-Trennung erzielen, was zu einer erheblichen Zeit- und Kostenersparnis im Downstreaming f{\"u}hrt. Dennoch steht ihr industrieller Einsatz noch aus, was u. a. am Mangel an Analysenmethoden liegt, um die HGMS quantifizierbar zu machen. Gerade in der Pharmaproduktion werden Prozesse gebraucht, die gem{\"a}ß den einschl{\"a}gigen Vorschriften (cGMP) validiert und deren verfahrenstechnische Anlagenteile qualifiziert werden k{\"o}nnen. Die Schwierigkeit ist die Messung der magnetischen Mikrosorbentien in der Suspension, in der auch Zellen oder Zelltr{\"u}mmer vorliegen. Im Rahmen eines Forschungsprojektes im „Zentralen Innovationsprogramm Mittelstand" des BMWi wurden verschiedene Analysenmethoden untersucht. Die Durchflusszytometrie erm{\"o}glicht eine Charakterisierung von Partikeln und eine simultane quantitative Messung. Durch die multiparametrige Messung kann zwischen Zellen, Zelltr{\"u}mmern und Magnetpartikeln unterschieden werden. Die At-line-Einbindung des Durchflusszytometers ist durch den Einsatz einer externen Pumpe m{\"o}glich. {\"U}ber eine automatisierte Messwertanalyse kann der HGMS-Prozess mittels der Durchflusszytometrie gesteuert werden.},

  abstract  = {With its need for high SNR and short acquisition times, Cardiac MRI (CMR) is an intriguing target application for ultrahigh field MRI. Due to the sheer size of the upper torso, however, the known RF issues of 7T MRI are also most prominent in CMR. Recent years brought substantial progress but the full potential of the ultrahigh field for CMR is yet to be exploited. Parallel transmission (pTx) is a promising approach in this context and several groups have already reported B1 shimming for 7T CMR. In such a static pTx application amplitudes and phases of all Tx channels are adjusted individually but otherwise imaging techniques established in current clinical practice 1.5 T and 3 T are applied. More advanced forms of pTx as spatially selective excitation (SSE) using Transmit SENSE promise additional benefits like faster imaging with reduced fields of view or improved SAR control. SSE requires the full dynamic capabilities of pTx, however, and for the majority of today's implemented pTx hardware the internal synchronization of the Tx array does not easily permit external triggering as needed for CMR. Here we report a software solution to this problem and demonstrate the feasibility of CINE CMR at 7 T using a Tx array.},

  abstract  = {In der Molkeverarbeitung dominieren Membranfiltrationsverfahren die Prozessf{\"u}hrung. Hierbei werden {\"u}blicherweise Aufkonzentrierungen der Proteine und deren Trennung von dem Milchzucker Lactose durchgef{\"u}hrt. Der Prozess der adsorptiven Aufreinigung soll als kosteng{\"u}nstige Alternative zu den bisher gebr{\"a}uchlichen Verfahren dienen. Weiterhin er{\"o}ffnet sich durch das Verfahren die M{\"o}glichkeit, einzelne Proteinfraktionen w{\"a}hrend der Verarbeitung anzureichern. Als Proteinquellen wurden f{\"u}r die Untersuchungen Modellproteine, L{\"o}sungen aus Molkenproteinisolat, D{\"u}nnmolke und Molkekonzentrat verwendet. Die Eignung zur Proteinbindung wurden an Tonmaterialien, Silicaten und y-Aluminiumoxiden in Pulverform, in Form von Granulaten sowie Extrudaten als auch sph{\"a}rischen Partikeln {\"u}berpr{\"u}ft. Adsorbentien aus Bentonit/Silica und c-Aluminiumoxid k{\"o}nnen sowohl a-Lactalbumin (aLA) als auch b-Lactoglobulin (bLG) binden, wohingegen Materialien aus Siliciumoxid lediglich ein starkes Adsorptionsverhalten gegen{\"u}ber bLG zeigen. Mischmaterialien aus Siliciumoxid und a-Aluminiumoxid zeigen dasselbe Verhalten wie Materialien aus Siliciumoxid, weisen jedoch eine geringere Kapazit{\"a}t auf. Die Materialen wurden hinsichtlich ihres Einsatzes in chromatographischen Verfahren und Batch-Prozessen untersucht und ein Prozessentwurf f{\"u}r einen zweistufigen Batch-Prozess im R{\"u}hrkessel erarbeitet.},

  abstract  = {The assessment of the right ventricle (RV) is a challenge in today's cardiology, but of growing clinical impact regarding patient prognosis in different cardiac diseases. The detection and differentiation of small wall motion abnormalities may help to enhance the differentiation of cardiomyopathies including Arrhythmogenic Rightventricular Cardiomyopathy. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) at 1.5T is the accepted gold standard for RV quantification. The higher spatial resolution achievable at ultrahigh field strength (UHF) offers the potential to gain new insights into the structure and function of the RV. To approach this goal accurate RV chamber quantification at 7T has to be proven. Consequently this study examines the feasibility of assessment of RV dimensions and function at 7T using improved spatial resolution enabled by the intrinsic sensitivity gain of UHF CMR. For this purpose, a dedicated 16 channel TX/RX RF coil array is used together with 2D CINE fast gradient echo (FGRE) imaging. For comparison RV chamber quantification is conducted at 1.5T using a SSFP based state of the art clinical protocol.},

  abstract  = {The multidrug resistance protein (MRP) 2 is predominantly expressed in liver, intestine, and kidney, where it plays an important role in the excretion of a range of drugs and their metabolites or endogenous compounds into bile, feces, and urine. Mrp knockout [Mrp2(-/-)] mice have been used recently to study the role of MRP2 in drug disposition. Here, we describe the first generation and initial characterization of a mouse line humanized for MRP2 (huMRP2), which is nulled for the mouse Mrp2 gene and expresses the human transporter in the organs and cell types where MRP2 is normally expressed. Analysis of the mRNA expression for selected cytochrome P450 and transporter genes revealed no major changes in huMRP2 mice compared with wild-type controls. We show that human MRP2 is able to compensate functionally for the loss of the mouse transporter as demonstrated by comparable bilirubin levels in the humanized mice and wild-type controls, in contrast to the hyperbilirubinemia phenotype that is observed in MRP2(-/-) mice. The huMRP2 mouse provides a model to study the role of the human transporter in drug disposition and in assessing the in vivo consequences of inhibiting this transporter by compounds interacting with human MRP2.},

At 7.0 T image quality is not always exclusively defined by signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR). Detrimental effects bear the potential to spoil the signal-to-noise (SNR) and contrast-to-noise (CNR) benefits of cardiac MR (CMR) at 7.0 T. B₁⁺-inhomogeneities and signal voids represent the main challenges. Various pioneering coil concepts have been proposed to tackle these issues, enabling cardiac MRI at 7.0 T. This includes a trend towards an ever larger number of transmit and receive channels. Materials and Methods: The MHD effect was scrutinized using a pulsatile flow phantom at B0 = 7.0 T. MHD effects were examined in vivo in healthy volunteers (n = 10) for B0 ranging from 0.05-7.0 T. Noncontrast-enhanced MR angiography (MRA) of the carotids was performed using a gated steady-state free-precession (SSFP) imaging technique in conjunction with electrocardiogram (ECG) and MHD synchronization. Results: The MHD potential correlates with flow velocities derived from phase contrast MRI. MHD voltages depend on the orientation between B0 and the flow of a conductive fluid. An increase in the interelectrode spacing along the flow increases the MHD potential. In vivo measurement of the MHD effect provides peak voltages of 1.5 mV for surface areas close to the common carotid artery at B0 = 7.0 T. Synchronization of MRI with the cardiac cycle using MHD triggering is feasible. MHD triggered MRA of the carotids at 3.0 T showed an overall image quality and richness of anatomic detail, which is comparable to ECG-triggered MRAs.   abstract  = {Climate change is challenging forestry management and practices. Among other things, tree species with the ability to cope with more extreme climate conditions have to be identified. However, while environmental factors may severely limit tree growth or even cause tree death, assessing a tree species' potential for surviving future aggravated environmental conditions is rather demanding. The aim of this study was to find a tree-ring-based method suitable for identifying very drought-tolerant species, particularly potential substitute species for Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in Valais. In this inner-Alpine valley, Scots pine used to be the dominating species for dry forests, but today it suffers from high drought-induced mortality. We investigate the growth response of two native tree species, Scots pine and European larch (Larix decidua Mill.), and two non-native species, black pine (Pinus nigra Arnold) and Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii Mirb. var. menziesii), to drought. This involved analysing how the radial increment of these species responded to increasing water shortage (abandonment of irrigation) and to increasingly frequent drought years. Black pine and Douglas fir are able to cope with drought better than Scots pine and larch, as they show relatively high radial growth even after irrigation has been stopped and a plastic growth response to drought years. European larch does not seem to be able to cope with these dry conditions as it lacks the ability to recover from drought years. The analysis of trees' short-term response to extreme climate events seems to be the most promising and suitable method for detecting how tolerant a tree species is towards drought. However, combining all the methods used in this study provides a complete picture of how water shortage could limit species.},

  abstract  = {An increasing number of studies have reported on forest declines and vegetation shifts triggered by drought. In the Swiss Rhone valley (Valais), one of the driest inner-Alpine regions, the species composition in low elevation forests is changing: The sub-boreal Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) dominating the dry forests is showing high mortality rates. Concurrently the sub-Mediterranean pubescent oak (Quercus pubescens Willd.) has locally increased in abundance. However, it remains unclear whether this local change in species composition is part of a larger-scale vegetation shift. To study variability in mortality and regeneration in these dry forests we analysed data from the Swiss national forest inventory (NFI) on a regular grid between 1983 and 2003, and combined it with annual mortality data from a monitoring site. Pine mortality was found to be highest at low elevation (below 1000 m a.s.l.). Annual variation in pine mortality was correlated with a drought index computed for the summer months prior to observed tree death. A generalized linear mixed-effects model indicated for the NFI data increased pine mortality on dryer sites with high stand competition, particularly for small-diameter trees. Pine regeneration was low in comparison to its occurrence in the overstorey, whereas oak regeneration was comparably abundant. Although both species regenerated well at dry sites, pine regeneration was favoured at cooler sites at higher altitude and oak regeneration was more frequent at warmer sites, indicating a higher adaptation potential of oaks under future warming. Our results thus suggest that an extended shift in species composition is actually occurring in the pine forests in the Valais. The main driving factors are found to be climatic variability, particularly drought, and variability in stand structure and topography. Thus, pine forests at low elevations are developing into oak forests with unknown consequences for these ecosystems and their goods and services.},

  abstract  = {Label-free electrical detection of consecutive deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) hybridization/denaturation by means of an array of individually addressable field-effect-based nanoplate silicon-on-insulator (SOI) capacitors modified with gold nanoparticles (Au-NP) is investigated. The proposed device detects charge changes on Au-NP/DNA hybrids induced by the hybridization or denaturation event. DNA hybridization was performed in a high ionic-strength solution to provide a high hybridization efficiency. On the other hand, to reduce the screening of the DNA charge by counter ions and to achieve a high sensitivity, the sensor signal induced by the hybridization and denaturation events was measured in a low ionic-strength solution. High sensor signals of about 120, 90, and 80 mV were registered after the DNA hybridization, denaturation, and re-hybridization events, respectively. Fluorescence microscopy has been applied as reference method to verify the DNA immobilization, hybridization, and denaturation processes. An electrostatic charge-plane model for potential changes at the gate surface of a nanoplate field-effect sensor induced by the DNA hybridization has been developed taking into account both the Debye length and the distance of the DNA charge from the gate surface.},

  abstract  = {Real-time and reliable monitoring of the biogas process is crucial for a stable and efficient operation of biogas production in order to avoid digester breakdowns. The concentration of dissolved hydrogen (H₂) represents one of the key parameters for biogas process control. In this work, a one-chip integrated combined amperometric/field-effect sensor for monitoring the dissolved H₂ concentration has been developed for biogas applications. The combination of two different transducer principles might allow a more accurate and reliable measurement of dissolved H₂ as an early warning indicator of digester failures. The feasibility of the approach has been demonstrated by simultaneous amperometric/field-effect measurements of dissolved H₂ concentrations in electrolyte solutions. Both, the amperometric and the field-effect transducer show a linear response behaviour in the H₂ concentration range from 0.1 to 3\% (v/v) with a slope of 198.4 ± 13.7 nA/\% (v/v) and 14.9 ± 0.5 mV/\% (v/v), respectively.},

There was no effect of the radiation dose on the optical behaviour of PET as a result of exposure to radiation dose up to 30 kGy brought about by gamma rays but a significant decrease in the optical band gap values was observed when PET was exposed to swift light ions of hydrogen. F{\"u}r die im Fokus stehende Sinapins{\"a}ure wird deshalb eine simultane Extraktion und enzymatische oder chemische Hydrolyse von Sinapin zu Sinapins{\"a}ure durchgef{\"u}hrt. Durch die Hydrolyse konnte die Sinapins{\"a}ureausbeute bereits um den Faktor 6,2 auf 15,8 mg g⁻¹ gegen{\"u}ber einer reinw{\"a}ssrigen Extraktion gesteigert werden. F{\"u}r die Aufreinigung des an Sinapins{\"a}ure reichen Extrakts erfolgt anschließend ein adsorptiver Aufarbeitungsschritt, bei dem Zeolithe zum Einsatz kommen. Mit diesem Material ist es m{\"o}glich, die Sinapins{\"a}ure quantitativ zu adsorbieren und sp{\"a}ter mit 70 \%igem Ethanol bei 60 °C zu desorbieren. Bei den Adsorbern handelt es sich um b-Zeolithe von der S{\"u}d-Chemie AG.},

  abstract  = {Die fermentative Verwertung von Rohglycerin setzt je nach Herstellungsmethode und Produktionsorganismus eine Vorbehandlung des Glycerins zur Entfernung von Produktinhibitoren voraus. Durch den Einsatz von Hydrotalcit-Adsorbern k{\"o}nnen die im Rohglycerin enthaltenen Fetts{\"a}uren entfernt werden. Durch diese einfache Aufarbeitungsmethode ist ein mit reinem Glycerin vergleichbarer Umsatz von stark mit Fetts{\"a}uren verunreinigtem Rohglycerin zu 1,3-Propandiol (PDO) m{\"o}glich. Die durch den Hydrotalcit gebundenen Fetts{\"a}uren lassen sich mit einem Ethanol-Wasser-Gemisch eluieren. Somit kann der Adsorber regeneriert und die Fetts{\"a}uren wieder der Wertsch{\"o}pfungskette zugef{\"u}hrt werden. Im Fed-Batch-Experiment kann mit C. diolis eine PDO-Konzentration von {\"u}ber 50 g L⁻¹ unter Verwendung des aufgereinigten Rohglycerins erzielt werden. In der industriellen Produktion wird PDO momentan destillativ aufgearbeitet. Ein adsorptives Aufarbeitungsverfahren kann den Energiebedarf des Herstellungsprozesses drastisch senken. Auf der Suche nach einem geeigneten Material wurde ein Adsorberscreening in Bezug auf die Bindungseigenschaften durchgef{\"u}hrt. Mit einem b-Zeolith der Firma S{\"u}d ChemieAG konnte bisher die h{\"o}chste Beladung im Modellsystem von 120 mg PDO/gAdsorber erreicht werden.},

Obwohl die biotechnologische Itacons{\"a}ureproduktion bereits eingehend untersucht und etabliert ist, gestaltet sie sich im Rahmen von Bioraffinerien der zweiten Generation als schwierig, da der {\"u}berwiegend verwendete Produktionsorganismus gegen eine weite Bandbreite von Inhibitoren sensibel ist. Die Herstellung von Itacons{\"a}ure aus Buchenholzhydrolysaten wird im Rahmen der deutschen Lignocellulose-Bioraffinerie entwickelt. Die unbehandelten Hydrolysate erm{\"o}glichen weder das Wachstum von Aspergillus terreus noch die Bildung von Itacons{\"a}ure. Daher werden M{\"o}glichkeiten zur Konditionierung des Hydrolysates mit dem Ziel einer Itacons{\"a}ureproduktion mit hohen Ausbeuten und Konzentrationen vorgestellt.},

Bisherige Verfahren f{\"u}hren oft zu geringer Reinheit und verminderter Bioaktivit{\"a}t, zeigen eine Limitation der Analytengr{\"o}ße oder bedingen dessen Modifikation. Durch die Kombination von mikroskaligen Magnetpartikeln und spezifisch wechselwirkenden Einzelstrang-DNA-Oligonukleotiden, den sog. ssDNA-Aptameren, sind eine h{\"o}here Selektivit{\"a}t/Reinheit und eine Automatisierung m{\"o}glich. In diesem Kontext werden zum einen ssDNA-Amplifikationstechniken und zum anderen der praktische Einsatz von Aptameren in einer Magnetseparation vorgestellt. Die ssDNA-Synthese basiert auf einem In-vivo-dsDNA-Produktionsschritt mittels eines rekombinanten Escherichia coli. Die als High-copy-Plasmid organisierte Sequenz wird in vitro durch Kombination verschiedener enzymatischer Reaktionen in die funktionelle ssDNA {\"u}berf{\"u}hrt. Diese Technik bedingt nur minimale Instrumentierung bzw. Prozessregelung. Die zweite Synthesetechnik wird in Form eines In-vitro-Amplifikationsverfahrens realisiert und beruht auf dem Prinzip einer PCR (Potenzial zu einer Automatisierung bzw. Miniaturisierung). Die gewonnenen Aptamere werden im Anschluss in einem auf Magnetpartikeln basierten Trennverfahren zur Isolationvon 6xHis-tag-Proteinen bez{\"u}glich ihrer Eigenschaften untersucht.},

  abstract  = {Compared with rodents and many other animal species, the human cytochrome P450 (P450) Cyp2c gene cluster varies significantly in the multiplicity of functional genes and in the substrate specificity of its enzymes. As a consequence, the use of wild-type animal models to predict the role of human CYP2C enzymes in drug metabolism and drug-drug interactions is limited. Within the human CYP2C cluster CYP2C9 is of particular importance, because it is one of the most abundant P450 enzymes in human liver, and it is involved in the metabolism of a wide variety of important drugs and environmental chemicals. To investigate the in vivo functions of cytochrome P450 Cyp2c genes and to establish a model for studying the functions of CYP2C9 in vivo, we have generated a mouse model with a deletion of the murine Cyp2c gene cluster and a corresponding humanized model expressing CYP2C9 specifically in the liver. Despite the high number of functional genes in the mouse Cyp2c cluster and the reported roles of some of these proteins in different biological processes, mice deleted for Cyp2c genes were viable and fertile but showed certain phenotypic alterations in the liver. The expression of CYP2C9 in the liver also resulted in viable animals active in the metabolism and disposition of a number of CYP2C9 substrates. These mouse lines provide a powerful tool for studying the role of Cyp2c genes and of CYP2C9 in particular in drug disposition and as a factor in drug-drug interaction.},
