We address this with an algorithm that reduces the manual effort to segmentation, fragment identification and reduction. The fracture edge detection and heat map generation are performed automatically. With the same input, the algorithm always delivers the same output. The tool transforms one intact template consecutively onto each fractured specimen by linear least square optimization, detects the fragment edges in the template and then superimposes them to generate a fracture probability heat map. We hypothesized that the algorithm runs faster than the manual evaluation and with low (< 5 mm) deviation. We tested the hypothesis in 10 fractured proximal humeri and found that it performs with good accuracy (2.5 mm ± 2.4 mm averaged Euclidean distance) and speed (23 times faster). When applied to a distal humerus, a tibia plateau, and a scaphoid fracture, the run times were low (1-2 min), and the detected edges correct by visual judgement. In the geometrically complex acetabulum, at a run time of 78 min some outliers were considered acceptable. An automatically generated fracture probability heat map based on 50 proximal humerus fractures matches the areas of high risk of fracture reported in medical literature. Such automation of the fracture analysis method is advantageous and could be extended to reduce the manual effort even further.}, language = {en} } @article{BiewendtBlaschkeBoehnert2020, author = {Biewendt, Marcel and Blaschke, Florian and B{\"o}hnert, Arno}, title = {An evaluation of corporate sustainability in context of the Jevons paradox}, series = {SocioEconomic Challenges}, volume = {4}, journal = {SocioEconomic Challenges}, number = {3}, publisher = {ARMG Publishing}, address = {Sumy}, issn = {2520-6214}, doi = {10.21272/sec.4(3).46-65.2020}, pages = {46 -- 65}, year = {2020}, abstract = {The successful implementation and continuous development of sustainable corporate-level solutions is a challenge. These are endeavours in which social, environmental, and financial aspects must be weighed against each other. They can prove difficult to handle and, in some cases, almost unrealistic. Concepts such as green controlling, IT, and manufacturing look promising and are constantly evolving. This paper aims to achieve a better understanding of the field of corporate sustainability (CS). It will evaluate the hypothesis by which Corporate Sustainability thrives, via being efficient, increasing the performance, and raising the value of the input of the enterprises to the resources used. In fact, Corporate Sustainability on the surface could seem to contradict the idea, which supports the understanding that it encourages the reduction of the heavy reliance on the use of natural resources, the overall environmental impact, and above all, their protection. To understand how the contradictory notion of CS came about, in this part of the paper, the emphasis is placed on providing useful insight to this regard. The first part of this paper summarizes various definitions, organizational theories, and measures used for CS and its derivatives like green controlling, IT, and manufacturing. Second, a case study is given that combines the aforementioned sustainability models. In addition to evaluating the hypothesis, the overarching objective of this paper is to demonstrate the use of green controlling, IT, and manufacturing in the corporate sector. Its principle relies on the nonlinear magnetic relaxation dynamics of a particle ensemble interacting with a dual frequency external magnetic field. In order to increase its sensitivity, lower its limit of detection and overall improve its applicability in biosensing, matching combinations of external field parameters and internal particle properties are being sought to advance FMMD. In this study, we systematically probe the aforementioned interaction with coupled N{\´e}el-Brownian dynamic relaxation simulations to examine how key MNP properties as well as applied field parameters affect the frequency mixing signal generation. It is found that the core size of MNPs dominates their nonlinear magnetic response, with the strongest contributions from the largest particles. The drive field amplitude dominates the shape of the field-dependent response, whereas effective anisotropy and hydrodynamic size of the particles only weakly influence the signal generation in FMMD. For tailoring the MNP properties and parameters of the setup towards optimal FMMD signal generation, our findings suggest choosing large particles of core sizes dc > 25 nm nm with narrow size distributions (σ < 0.1) to minimize the required drive field amplitude. Concerning the projected depletion of fossil fuels, this is of great interest. The cultivation of clostridia is known to be challenging, and it is difficult to achieve reproducible results and robust processes. However, existing publications usually concentrate on the cultivation conditions of the main culture. In this paper, the influence of cryo-conservation and pre-culture on growth and solvent production in the resulting main cultivation are examined. A protocol was developed that leads to reproducible cultivations of Clostridium acetobutylicum. Detailed investigation of the cell conservation in cryo-cultures ensured reliable cell growth in the pre-culture. Moreover, a reason for the acid crash in the main culture was found, based on the cultivation conditions of the pre-culture. The critical parameter to avoid the acid crash and accomplish the shift to the solventogenesis of clostridia is the metabolic phase in which the cells of the pre-culture were at the time of inoculation of the main culture; this depends on the cultivation time of the pre-culture. Using cells from the exponential growth phase to inoculate the main culture leads to an acid crash. To achieve the solventogenic phase with butanol production, the inoculum should consist of older cells which are in the stationary growth phase. Considering these parameters, which affect the entire cultivation process, reproducible results and reliable solvent production are ensured.}, language = {en} } @article{KruegerGroetzingerBerndt1987, author = {Kr{\"u}ger, G{\"o}tz and Gr{\"o}tzinger, Joachim and Berndt, Heinz}, title = {Enantiomeric resolution of amino acid derivatives on chiral stationary phases by high-performance liquid chromatography}, series = {Journal of Chromatography A}, volume = {1987}, journal = {Journal of Chromatography A}, number = {397}, issn = {0021-9673}, doi = {10.1016/S0021-9673(01)85005-6}, pages = {223 -- 232}, year = {1987}, language = {en} } @article{FontiEilmannGarciaGonzalezetal.2009, author = {Fonti, Patrick and Eilmann, Britta and Garc{\´i}a-Gonz{\´a}lez, Ignacio and von Arx, Georg}, title = {Expeditious building of ring-porous earlywood vessel chronologies without loosing signal information}, series = {Trees : structure and function}, volume = {23}, journal = {Trees : structure and function}, number = {3}, publisher = {Springer}, address = {Berlin}, issn = {0931-1890 (Print)}, doi = {10.1007/s00468-008-0310-z}, pages = {665 -- 671}, year = {2009}, language = {en} } @article{HerrmannLippke1999, author = {Herrmann, Ulf and Lippke, F.}, title = {The influence of transients on the design of DSG solar fields}, series = {Journal de Physique IV : proceedings}, volume = {9}, journal = {Journal de Physique IV : proceedings}, number = {PR3}, isbn = {2-86883-402-7}, issn = {1764-7177 (Online)}, doi = {10.1051/jp4:1999377}, pages = {489 -- 494}, year = {1999}, language = {en} } @article{WangAnikFrohberg1988, author = {Wang, Mao and Anik, Sabri and Frohberg, Martin G.}, title = {Experiments on the electrochemical determination of the sulphur activities in the system copper-silver at 1200°C}, series = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Metallkunde}, volume = {79}, journal = {Zeitschrift f{\"u}r Metallkunde}, number = {5}, issn = {0044-3093}, pages = {336 -- 339}, year = {1988}, language = {en} } @article{Fabo2007, author = {Fabo, Sabine}, title = {Mouse on Mars : Wir suchen den Sound, den es noch nicht gibt}, series = {Kunstforum international}, volume = {2007}, journal = {Kunstforum international}, number = {185}, issn = {0177-3674}, pages = {220}, year = {2007}, language = {de} } @article{EilmannZweifelBuchmannetal.2011, author = {Eilmann, Britta and Zweifel, Roman and Buchmann, Nina and Graf Pannatier, Elisabeth and Rigling, Andreas}, title = {Drought alters timing, quantity, and quality of wood formation in Scots pine}, series = {Journal of Experimental Botany}, volume = {62}, journal = {Journal of Experimental Botany}, number = {8}, publisher = {Oxford University Press}, address = {Oxford}, issn = {1460-2431 (Online)}, doi = {10.1093/jxb/erq443}, pages = {2763 -- 2771}, year = {2011}, language = {en} } @article{PeekenAbdelLatifBenner1985, author = {Peeken, Heinz and Abdel-Latif, Lotfie Ahmed and Benner, Joachim}, title = {Einfluss der {\"O}lversch{\"a}umung auf Axiallager mit Kreis- und Michell-Segmenten}, series = {VDI-Z : Zeitschrift f{\"u}r integrierte Produktion}, volume = {127}, journal = {VDI-Z : Zeitschrift f{\"u}r integrierte Produktion}, number = {5}, publisher = {Springer-VDI-Verl}, address = {D{\"u}sseldorf}, issn = {0042-1766}, pages = {145 -- 151}, year = {1985}, language = {de} } @article{AnikDagsoez1971, author = {Anik, Sabri and Dagsoez, A. Interdigitated electrode (IDE) structures have been fabricated by means of microfabrication techniques. A differential setup of IDEs was prepared, containing an active sensor element (active IDE) and a passive sensor element (passive IDE), where the former was immobilized with an enzymatic membrane of horseradish peroxidase that is selective towards H₂O₂. Changes in the IDEs' capacitance values (active sensor element versus passive sensor element) under H₂O₂ vapor/aerosol atmosphere proved the detection in the concentration range up to 630 ppm with a fast response time (<60 s). As a consequence, the use of wild-type animal models to predict the role of human CYP2C enzymes in drug metabolism and drug-drug interactions is limited. Within the human CYP2C cluster CYP2C9 is of particular importance, because it is one of the most abundant P450 enzymes in human liver, and it is involved in the metabolism of a wide variety of important drugs and environmental chemicals. To investigate the in vivo functions of cytochrome P450 Cyp2c genes and to establish a model for studying the functions of CYP2C9 in vivo, we have generated a mouse model with a deletion of the murine Cyp2c gene cluster and a corresponding humanized model expressing CYP2C9 specifically in the liver. Despite the high number of functional genes in the mouse Cyp2c cluster and the reported roles of some of these proteins in different biological processes, mice deleted for Cyp2c genes were viable and fertile but showed certain phenotypic alterations in the liver. The expression of CYP2C9 in the liver also resulted in viable animals active in the metabolism and disposition of a number of CYP2C9 substrates. To understand how chronic drought affects tree growth and tree-ring δ13C values, we studied mature Scots pine in an irrigation experiment in an inner-Alpine valley. Tree growth and isotope analyses were carried out at the annual and seasonal scale. At the seasonal scale, maximum δ13C values were measured after the hottest and driest period of the year, and were associated with decreasing growth rates. Inter-annual δ13C values in early- and latewood showed a strong correlation with annual climatic conditions and an immediate decrease as a response to irrigation. This indicates a tight coupling between wood formation and the freshly produced assimilates for trees exposed to chronic drought. This rapid appearance of the isotopic signal is a strong indication for an immediate and direct transfer of newly synthesized assimilates for biomass production. The fast appearance and the distinct isotopic signal suggest a low availability of old stored carbohydrates. Insights into plant adjustments to changing environmental conditions have mainly been obtained through structural and functional comparative studies between taxa or within taxa on contrasting sites or along environmental gradients. Yet, a gap exists regarding the study of hydraulic adjustments in response to environmental changes over the lifetimes of plants. In trees, dated tree-ring series are often exploited to reconstruct dynamics in ecological conditions, and recent work in which wood-anatomical variables have been used in dendrochronology has produced promising results. Environmental signals identified in water-conducting cells carry novel information reflecting changes in regional conditions and are mostly related to short, sub-annual intervals. Although the idea of investigating environmental signals through wood anatomical time series goes back to the 1960s, it is only recently that low-cost computerized image-analysis systems have enabled increased scientific output in this field. Besides drought, infection with pine mistletoe (Viscum album ssp. austriacum) seems to play an important role in the mortality dynamics of Scots pines, but how mistletoes promote pine decline remains unclear. To verify whether pine mistletoe infection weakens the host via crown degradation, as observed for dwarf mistletoes, we studied the negative effects of pine mistletoe infestation on the photosynthetic tissues and branch growth of pairs of infested and non-infested branches. Pine mistletoe infection leads to crown degradation in its host by reducing the length, the radial increment, the ramification, the needle length and the number of needle years of the infested branches. This massive loss in photosynthetic tissue results in a reduction in primary production and a subsequent decrease in carbohydrate availability. The significant reduction in needle length due to mistletoe infection is an indication for a lower water and nutrient availability in infested branches. Thus, mistletoe infection might lead to a decrease in the availability of water and carbohydrates, the two most important growth factors, which are already shortened due to the chronic drought situation in the area. By sequentially labelling the tumour-bearing animals with ¹²⁵IUdR and ¹³¹IUdR 50 h apart, the average tumour cells at the time of the second injection are labelled by ¹²⁵IUdR and the euoxic tumour cells are specifically labelled with ¹³¹IUdR. Tumour treatment at this stage of labelling permits the observation of the reaction of euoxic cells and average tumour cells and finally yields data on hypoxic cells and thus on the oxygen enhancement ratio. This information adds to results from tumour control and growth delay. With this technique effects were analysed of 60-Co γ-rays, cyclotron neutrons (E = 6 MeV), misonidazole (500 mg/kg body wt) and hyperthermia (42°C water-bath), or combinations of these. Misonidazole (15 min before irradiation) altered the oxygen enhancement ratio by a factor of 1·5 for γ-rays and of 1·1 for neutrons; when evaluated from tumour-growth delay and TCD-50 misonidazole gave a dose modifying factor of 1·47 for γ-rays and of 1·2-1·3 for neutrons. Based on percentage tumour regression 100 days after treatment, the enhancement ratio from hyperthermia (after irradiation) was 2·75 for γ-rays (at 10 Gray) and 2·2 for neutrons (at 3·2 Gray). For neutrons combined with misonidazole and hyperthermia the ratio was 2·4. These results demonstrate that effects of neutron irradiation may be modified by electron-affinic substances and/or hyperthermia.}, language = {en} }
