  abstract  = {In the study, the process chain of additive manufacturing by means of powder bed fusion will be presented based on the material glass. In order to reliably process components additively, new concepts with different solutions were developed and investigated. Compared to established metallic materials, the properties of glass materials differ significantly. Therefore, the process control was adapted to the material glass in the investigations. With extensive parameter studies based on various glass powders such as borosilicate glass and quartz glass, scientifically proven results on powder bed fusion of glass are presented. Based on the determination of the particle properties with different methods, extensive investigations are made regarding the melting behavior of glass by means of laser beams. Furthermore, the experimental setup was steadily expanded. In addition to the integration of coaxial temperature measurement and regulation, preheating of the building platform is of major importance. This offers the possibility to perform 3D printing at the transformation temperatures of the glass materials. To improve the component's properties, the influence of a subsequent heat treatment was also investigated. The experience gained was incorporated into a new experimental system, which allows a much better exploration of the 3D printing of glass. Currently, studies are being conducted to improve surface texture, building accuracy, and geometrical capabilities using three-dimensional specimen. The contribution shows the development of research in the field of 3D printing of glass, gives an insight into the machine and process engineering as well as an outlook on the possibilities and applications.},

  abstract  = {This paper presents the design, development and calibration procedures of a novel hot S-parameter measurement system for plasma and magnetron applications with power level up to 6 kW. Based on a vector network analyzer, a power amplifier and two directional couplers, the input matching hotS 11 and transmission hotS 21 of the device under test are measured at 2.45 GHz center frequency and 300MHz bandwidth, while the device is driven by the magnetron. This measurement system opens a new horizon to develop many new industrial applications such as microwave plasma jets, dryer systems, dryers and so forth. Furthermore, the developing, controlling and monitoring a 2kW 2.45GHz plasma jet and a dryer system using the measurement system are presented and explained.},

Die Vereinfachungen betreffen die Beschaffung der Daten und Modelle f{\"u}r Details der Lastgeschichte und des Stoffverhaltens. Anders als die klassische Behandlung nichtlinearer Probleme der Strukturmechanik f{\"u}hrt die Methode auf Optimierungsprobleme. Diese sind bei realistischen FEM-Modellen sehr groß. Das hat die industrielle Anwendung der Traglast- und Einspielanalysen stark verz{\"o}gert. Diese Situation wird durch das Brite-EuRam Projekt LISA grundlegend ge{\"a}ndert. In LISA entsteht auf der Basis des industriellen FEM-Programms PERMAS ein Verfahren zur direkten Berechnung der Tragf{\"a}higkeit duktiler Strukturen. Damit kann der Betriebsbereich von Komponenten und Bauwerken auf den plastischen Bereich erweitert werden, ohne den Aufwand gegen{\"u}ber elastischen Analysen wesentlich zu erh{\"o}hen. Die beachtlichen Rechenzeitgewinne erlauben Parameterstudien und die Berechnung von Interaktionsdiagrammen, die einen schnellen {\"U}berblick {\"u}ber m{\"o}gliche Betriebsbereiche vermitteln. Es zeigt sich, daß abh{\"a}ngig von der Komponente und ihren Belastungen teilweise entscheidende Sicherheitsgewinne zur Erweiterung der Betriebsbereiche erzielt werden k{\"o}nnen. Das Vorgehen erfordert vom Anwender oft ein gewisses Umdenken. Es werden keine Spannungen berechnet, um damit Sicherheit und Lebensdauer zu interpretieren. Statt dessen berechnet man direkt die gesuchte Sicherheit. Der Post-Prozessor wird nur noch zur Modell- und Rechenkontrolle ben{\"o}tigt. Das Vorgehen ist {\"a}hnlich der Stabilit{\"a}tsanalyse (Knicken, Beulen). Durch namhafte industrielle Projektpartner werden Validierung und die Anwendbarkeit auf eine breite Palette technischer Probleme garantiert. Die ebenfalls in LISA entwickelten Zuverl{\"a}ssigkeitsanalysen sind nichlinear erst auf der Basis direkter Verfahren effektiv m{\"o}glich. Ohne Traglast- und Einspielanalyse ist plastische Strukturoptimierung auch heute kaum durchf{\"u}hrbar. Auf die vorgesehenen Erweiterungen der Werkstoffmodellierung f{\"u}r nichtlineare Verfestigung und f{\"u}r Sch{\"a}digung konnte hier nicht eingegangen werden. Es herrscht ein deutlicher Mangel an Experimenten zum Nachweis der Grenzen zwischen elastischem Einspielen und dem Versagen durch LCF oder durch Ratchetting.},

  abstract  = {The number of case studies focusing on hybrid-electric aircraft is steadily increasing, since these configurations are thought to lead to lower operating costs and environmental impact than traditional aircraft. However, due to the lack of reference data of actual hybrid-electric aircraft, in most cases, the design tools and results are difficult to validate. In this paper, two independently developed approaches for hybrid-electric conceptual aircraft design are compared. An existing 19-seat commuter aircraft is selected as the conventional baseline, and both design tools are used to size that aircraft. The aircraft is then re-sized under consideration of hybrid-electric propulsion technology. This is performed for parallel, serial, and fully-electric powertrain architectures. Finally, sensitivity studies are conducted to assess the validity of the basic assumptions and approaches regarding the design of hybrid-electric aircraft. Both methods are found to predict the maximum take-off mass (MTOM) of the reference aircraft with less than 4\% error. The MTOM and payload-range energy efficiency of various (hybrid-) electric configurations are predicted with a maximum difference of approximately 2\% and 5\%, respectively. The results of this study confirm a correct formulation and implementation of the two design methods, and the data obtained can be used by researchers to benchmark and validate their design tools.},

  abstract  = {Future engineers are increasingly confronted with the so-called Megatrends which are the big social challenges society has to cope with. These Megatrends, such as "Silver Society", "Globalization", "Mobility" and "Female Shift" require an application-oriented perspective on Diversity especially in the engineering field. Therefore, it is necessary to enable future engineers not only to look at the technical perspectives of a problem, but also to be able to see the related questions within societies they are developing their artefacts for. The aim of teaching engineering should be to prepare engineers for these requirements and to draw attention to the diverse needs in a globalized world. Bringing together technical knowledge and social competences which go beyond a mere training of the so-called "soft skills", is a new approach followed at RWTH Aachen University, one of the leading technical universities in Germany. RWTH Aachen University has established the bridging professorship "Gender and Diversity in Engineering" (GDI) which educates engineers with an interdisciplinary approach to expand engineering limits. In the frame of a sustainable teaching concept the research group under the leadership of Prof. Carmen Leicht-Scholten has developed an approach which imparts a supplication-specific Gender and Diversity expertise to engineers. In workshops students gain theoretical knowledge about Gender and Diversity and learn how to transfer their knowledge in their special field of study and later work. To substantiate this, the course participants have to solve case studies from real life. The cases which are developed in collaboration with non-profit organizations and enterprises from economy rise the students to challenges which are inspired by professional life. Evaluation shows the success of this approach as well as an increasing demand for such teaching formats.},

The method is based on the conversion of a photolithographically patterned metal layer to a metal-oxide mask with improved pattern-size resolution using thermal oxidation. With this technique, the pattern size can be scaled down to several nanometer dimensions. The proposed method is experimentally demonstrated by preparing nanostructures with different configurations and layouts, like circles, rectangles, trapezoids, "fluidic-channel"-, "cantilever"- and meander-type structures.},

Eine FEM-basierte Traglast- und Einspielanalyse f{\"u}r ideal plastisches Material wurde auf ein kinematisch verfestigendes Materialgesetz erweitert und in das Finite Element Programm PERMAS implementiert. In einem einfachen Zug-Torsionsexperiment wurde eine Hohlprobe mit konstanter Torsion und zyklischer Zugbelastung beansprucht, um die neue Implementierung zu verifizieren. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Einspielanalyse gut mit den experimentellen Ergebnissen {\"u}bereinstimmt. Bei Verfestigung lassen sich wesentlich gr{\"o}ßere Sicherheiten nachweisen. Dieses Potential bedarf weiterer experimenteller Absicherung. Parallel dazu ist die Eisnpieltheorie auf fortschrittliche Verfestigungsans{\"a}tze zu erweitern.},
