The focus of this paper is the development of a drag sail based on solar sail technology that could contribute to a reduction of space debris in low Earth orbits. The drag sail design and its connections to solar sail development, a first test on a sounding rocket, as well as the ongoing integration of the drag sail into a triple CubeSat is presented.

N2  - A technology reference study for a multiple near-Earth object (NEO) rendezvous mission with solar sailcraft is currently carried out by the authors of this paper. The investigated mission builds on previous concepts, but adopts a strong micro-spacecraft philosophy based on the DLR/ESA Gossamer technology. The main scientific objective of the mission is to explore the diversity of NEOs. After direct interplanetary insertion, the solar sailcraft should—within less than 10 years—rendezvous three NEOs that are not only scientifically interesting, but also from the point of human spaceight and planetary defense. In this paper, the objectives of the study are outlined and a preliminary potential mission profile is presented.

N2  - A technology reference study for a displaced Lagrange point space weather mission is presented. The mission builds on previous concepts, but adopts a strong micro-spacecraft philosophy to deliver a low mass platform and payload which can be accommodated on the DLR/ESA Gossamer-3 technology demonstration mission. A direct escape from Geostationary Transfer Orbit is assumed with the sail deployed after the escape burn. The use of a miniaturized, low mass platform and payload then allows the Gossamer-3 solar sail to potentially double the warning time of space weather events. The mission profile and mass budgets will be presented to achieve these ambitious goals.

N2  - A technology reference study for a solar polar mission is presented. The study uses novel analytical methods to quantify the mission design space including the required sail performance to achieve a given solar polar observation angle within a given timeframe and thus to derive mass allocations for the remaining spacecraft sub-systems, that is excluding the solar sail sub-system. A parametric, bottom-up, system mass budget analysis is then used to establish the required sail technology to deliver a range of science payloads, and to establish where such payloads can be delivered to within a given timeframe. It is found that a solar polar mission requires a solar sail of side-length 100–125 m to deliver a ‘sufficient value’ minimum science payload, and that a 2.5 μm sail film substrate is typically required, however the design is much less sensitive to the boom specific mass.

N2  - In this paper, the multicarrier physical layers of WiMAX are evaluated in the context of airport data links. The orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) cases are applied to the forward link (FL) and reverse link (RL), respectively. The performance of the so called parking and taxi scenarios is presented for airport communications in C-band. Numerical results show that the proposed scheme brings good performance for both the FL and the RL. For the OFDMA case a structure changing called double-tile is also proposed to improve the system performance.

N2  - Many biped robots deploy a form of gait that follows the zero moment point (ZMP) approach, that is, the robot is in a stable position at any point in time. This requires the robot to be fully actuated. While very stable, the draw-backs of this approach are a fairly slow gait and high energy consumption. An alternative approach is the so-called passive-dynamic walking, where the gait makes use of the inertia and dynamic stability of the robot. In this paper we describe our ongoing work of combining the principles of passive-dynamic walking on the fully-actuated biped robot Nao, which is also deployed for robotic soccer applications. We present a simple controller that allows the robot to stably rock sidewards, showing a closed limit-cycle. We discuss first results of superimposing a forward motion on the sidewards motion. Based on this we expect to endow the Nao with a fast, robust, and stable passive-dynamic walk on the fully-actuated Nao in the future.

N2  - A new trend in automation is to deploy so-called cyber-physical systems (CPS) which combine computation with physical processes. The novel RoboCup Logistics League Sponsored by Festo (LLSF) aims at such CPS logistic scenarios in an automation setting. A team of robots has to produce products from a number of semi-finished products which they have to machine during the game. Different production plans are possible and the robots need to recycle scrap byproducts. This way, the LLSF is a very interesting league offering a number of challenging research questions for planning, coordination, or communication in an application-driven scenario. In this paper, we outline the objectives of the LLSF and present steps for developing the league further towards a benchmark for logistics scenarios for CPS. As a major milestone we present the new automated referee system which helps in governing the game play as well as keeping track of the scored points in a very complex factory scenario.

N2  - For the sterilisation of aseptic food packages it is taken advantage of the microbicidal properties of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Especially, when applied in vapour phase, it has shown high potential of microbial inactivation. In addition, it offers a high environmental compatibility compared to other chemical sterilisation agents, as it decomposes into oxygen and water, respectively. Due to a lack in sensory detection possibilities, a continuous monitoring of the H2O2 concentration was recently not available. Instead, the sterilisation efficacy is validated using microbiological tests. However, progresses in the development of calorimetric gas sensors during the last 7 years have made it possible to monitor the H2O2 concentration during operation. This chapter deals with the fundamentals of calorimetric gas sensing with special focus on the detection of gaseous hydrogen peroxide. A sensor principle based on a calorimetric differential set-up is described. Special emphasis is given to the sensor design with respect to the operational requirements under field conditions. The state-of-the-art regarding a sensor set-up for the on-line monitoring and secondly, a miniaturised sensor for in-line monitoring are summarised. Furthermore, alternative detection methods and a novel multi-sensor system for the characterisation of aseptic sterilisation processes are described.

N2  - Successful bone sawing requires a high level of skill and experience, which could be gained by the use of Virtual Reality-based simulators. A key aspect of these medical simulators is realistic force feedback. The aim of this paper is to model the bone sawing process in order to develop a valid training simulator for the bilateral sagittal split osteotomy, the most often applied corrective surgery in case of a malposition of the mandible. Bone samples from a human cadaveric mandible were tested using a designed experimental system. Image processing and statistical analysis were used for the selection of four models for the bone sawing process. The results revealed a polynomial dependency between the material removal rate and the applied force. Differences between the three segments of the osteotomy line and between the cortical and cancellous bone were highlighted.

It bases on the mechanical model for cardiac tissue of Hunter et al. that we couple to the McAllister-Noble-Tsien electrophysiological model of purkinje fibre cells. The corresponding system of ordinary differential equations is implemented on the level of the constitutive equations in a geometrically and physically nonlinear version of the so-called edge-based smoothed FEM for plates. Mechanical material parameters are determined from our own pressure-deflection experimental setup. The main purpose of the model is to further examine the experimental results not only on mechanical but also on electrophysiological level down to ion channel gates. Moreover, we present first drug treatment simulations and validate the model with respect to the experiments.

N2  - RGB-D sensors such as the Microsoft Kinect or the Asus Xtion are inexpensive 3D sensors. A depth image is computed by calculating the distortion of a known infrared light (IR) pattern which is projected into the scene. While these sensors are great devices they have some limitations. The distance they can measure is limited and they suffer from reflection problems on transparent, shiny, or very matte and absorbing objects. If more than one RGB-D camera is used the IR patterns interfere with each other. This results in a massive loss of depth information. In this paper, we present a simple and powerful method to overcome these problems. We propose a stereo RGB-D camera system which uses the pros of RGB-D cameras and combine them with the pros of stereo camera systems. The idea is to utilize the IR images of each two sensors as a stereo pair to generate a depth map. The IR patterns emitted by IR projectors are exploited here to enhance the dense stereo matching even if the observed objects or surfaces are texture-less or transparent. The resulting disparity map is then fused with the depth map offered by the RGB-D sensor to fill the regions and the holes that appear because of interference, or due to transparent or reflective objects. Our results show that the density of depth information is increased especially for transparent, shiny or matte objects.

N2  - This paper presents a numerical procedure for reliability analysis of thin plates and shells with respect to plastic collapse or to inadaptation. The procedure involves a deterministic shakedown analysis for each probabilistic iteration, which is based on the upper bound approach and the use of the exact Ilyushin yield surface. Probabilistic shakedown analysis deals with uncertainties originated from the loads, material strength and thickness of the shell. Based on a direct definition of the limit state function, the calculation of the failure probability may be efficiently solved by using the First and Second Order Reliability Methods (FORM and SORM). The problem of reliability of structural systems (series systems) is handled by the application of a special technique which permits to find all the design points corresponding to all the failure modes. Studies show, in this case, that it improves considerably the FORM and SORM results.

Die verfügbaren Prozeßmanagementansätze eignen sich für unterschiedliche Anwendungsfelder und Organisationskulturen, sind dementsprechend auch auf die Softwareentwicklung übertragbar, adressieren jedoch nur bedingt den zentralen Erfolgsfaktor betrieblicher Softwareentwicklung: die Zufriedenheit der Anwender als Kunden der Softwareentwicklung.

Der Schlüssel für erfolgreiche Softwareentwicklungsprozesse liegt nicht im Prozeßmanagement allein, sondern in dessen Ausgestaltung mit Blick auf den Kunden. Ansatzpunkte für ein kundenorientiertes Softwareprozeßmanagement sind die Etablierung einer Kunden/Lieferantenbeziehung, die Fokussierung und Differenzierung der Entwicklungsprozesse, die Benutzerinvolvierung, Simultaneous Engineering und die gezielte Identifikation, Integration und Kooperation der „Stimme des Kunden“und der „Stimme des Ingenieurs“. Die Bewertung kundenorientierter Softwareprozesse wird diskutiert und Schlußfolgerungen für Forschung und Praxis skizziert.

des Gasmarktes die daraus folgenden Implikationen für die Einsatzweise von
Gasspeichern abgeleitet. Anschließend wurden zwei Bewertungs- und Steuerungsverfahren für einen Gasspeicher an den beiden Marktstufen Termin- und Spotmarkt methodisch vorgestellt und anhand von Beispielrechnungen illustriert.
Das Verfahren zur Bewertung und Steuerung im Terminmarkt stellt ein sehr
robustes und methodisch einfaches Verfahren dar. Hierbei wird die Saisonalität
der Forwardkurve bzw. deren Veränderungen arbitragefrei mithilfe des Speichers
ausgenutzt. Dieses Verfahren kann nicht den gesamten Zeitwert des Speichers
ausweisen. Es zieht in jedem Zeitpunkt nur die aktuellen Informationen der Forwardkurve zur Entscheidung heran. Es bildet aber keine bedingte Erwartung über
zukünftige Erträge und deren Beeinflussung durch die aktuelle Speicherfahrweise,
um hieraus eine optimale Entscheidung zu formulieren.
Bei der Bewertung gegenüber dem Spotmarkt mithilfe der Least-Squares-Monte-
Carlo-Simulation wird in einer stochastischen Optimierung dagegen der volle Zeitwert des Speichers und damit der gesamte Zusatznutzen der Flexibilität ermittelt. Hierdurch leiten sich auch wesentlich andere Hedging-Empfehlungen als im ersten Verfahren ab, um diesen zu sichern. Der Einsatz der beiden Verfahren im Alltag zur Bewirtschaftung des Speichers hängt insbesondere vom Know-how, den Speicherparametern und der Risikobereitschaft des Handels ab. Beide Strategien liefern hierzu Hedging-Empfehlungen ab, mit welchem der zugrunde liegende Wert gesichert werden kann. Risikoaverse Händler, die einen Großteil des inneren Wertes sichern wollen, könnten im Terminmarkt einen Großteil des Speichers mithilfe des „Intrinsic Rolling“-Verfahrens bewirtschaften. Sie würden hierdurch den saisonalen Spread in der Forwardkurve rollierend sichern. Gleichzeitig kann ein kleinerer Anteil mithilfe der stochastischen Optimierung und den damit verbundenen Ausübungsgrenzen gegenüber dem Spotmarkt bewirtschaftet werden.
In einem liquiden vollständigen Markt wird eine Steuerung des Speichers allein
gegenüber den vorhandenen Marktstufen vorgenommen und der Wert für alle
Marktteilnehmer objektiv messbar. Für den Fall, dass der Markt illiquide ist und
hierdurch z. B. eine Kundenlast nicht allein am Termin- und Spotmarkt jederzeit
gedeckt werden kann, erscheint es notwendig, den Speicher im Kontext einer Portfoliooptimierung zu bewerten. Dies wird in der nächsten Lektion vorgenommen.
Hierbei ist aber zu beachten, dass der Speicher dadurch eine individualisierte Wertkomponente erhält, die von der konkreten Ausgestaltung des jeweiligen Portfolios abhängt.
