N2  - b-Lactame gehören zu den wirkungsvollsten Antibiotika, jedoch lassen sich viele nur schwierig fermentativ erzeugen. Ein Problem bei der fermentativen Produktion ist die Hydrolyse des Lactamrings im wässrigen Milieu. Das Ziel des von der DBU geförderten Projekts ist die selektive In-situ-Adsorption der b-Lactamantibiotika unter anschließender magnetischer Separation. Durch die Isolation im Hochgradientenmagnetseparator (HGMS) ist eine Fest-fest-flüssig-Trennung und somit ein erheblicher Zeitgewinn im Downstreamprozess möglich. Zusätzlich kommt es zur Einsparung an Lösungsmittel und Energie, was neben Reduzierung der Antibiotikahydrolyse auch in ökologischer Hinsicht einen interessanten Aspekt darstellt. Als Trägermaterial für die Adsorbermatrix werden magnetisierbare Eisenoxidpartikel eingesetzt, die in einer Silikamatrix eingebettet sind. Diese Adsorber sollen auf Selektivität in Wasser und verschiedenen Medien getestet werden. Zusätzlich werden die Abbauprodukte des b-Lactams analysiert, um eine Aussage über die Stabilisierung des Antibiotikums durch die selektiven Adsorber treffen zu können. Diese Ergebnisse werden mit kommerziell erhältlichen Adsorbern verglichen. Die Aufreinigung der Antibiotika soll direkt aus der Fermentationsbrühe erfolgen. Um die Trennung der magnetischen, selektiven Adsorber von der Biomasse zu gewährleisten, soll der HGMS in die Fermentation integriert werden. Das filamentöse Wachstum des Mikroorganismus erfordert eine Neuauslegung der Filtermatrix.

N2  - High gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) has been established since the early 1970s. A more recent application of these systems is the use in bioprocesses. To integrate the HGMS in a fermentation process, it is necessary to optimize the separation matrix with regard to the magnetic separation characteristics and permeability of the non-magnetizable components of the fermentation broth. As part of the work presented here, a combined fluidic and magnetic force finite element model simulation was created using the software COMSOL Multiphysics and compared with separation experiments. Finally, as optimal lattice orientation of the separation matrix, a transversal rhombohedral arrangement was defined. The high suitability of the new filter matrix has been verified by separation experiments.

N2  - A German–Brazilian research project investigates sugarcane as an energy plant in anaerobic digestion for biogas production. The aim of the project is a continuous, efficient, and stable biogas process with sugarcane as the substrate. Tests are carried out in a fermenter with a volume of 10 l.

In order to optimize the space–time load to achieve a stable process, a continuous process in laboratory scale has been devised. The daily feed in quantity and the harvest time of the substrate sugarcane has been varied. Analyses of the digester content were conducted twice per week to monitor the process: The ratio of inorganic carbon content to volatile organic acid content (VFA/TAC), the concentration of short-chain fatty acids, the organic dry matter, the pH value, and the total nitrogen, phosphate, and ammonium concentrations were monitored. In addition, the gas quality (the percentages of CO₂, CH₄, and H₂) and the quantity of the produced gas were analyzed.

The investigations have exhibited feasible and economical production of biogas in a continuous process with energy cane as substrate. With a daily feeding rate of 1.68gᵥₛ/l*d the average specific gas formation rate was 0.5 m3/kgᵥₛ. The long-term study demonstrates a surprisingly fast metabolism of short-chain fatty acids. This indicates a stable and less susceptible process compared to other substrates.

The carbon and silicon derivatives readily undergo decomposition, which was proven by 99Tc NMR spectroscopy and the isolation of decomposition products such as [TcOCl3(THF)(OH2)]. Compounds [Ph3GeOTcO3], [(THF)Ph3SnOTcO3], [(O3TcO)SntBu2(OH)]2, and [(THF)4Mg(OTcO3)2] are more stable and were isolated in crystalline form and characterized by X-ray diffraction.

N2  - Air- and water-stable phenyl complexes with nitridotechnetium(V) cores can be prepared by straightforward procedures. [TcNPh2(PPh3)2] is formed by the reaction of [TcNCl2(PPh3)2] with PhLi. The analogous N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) compound [TcNPh2(HLPh)2], where HLPh is 1,3,4-triphenyl-1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidene, is available from (NBu4)[TcNCl4] and HLPh or its methoxo-protected form. The latter compound allows the comparison of different Tc–C bonds within one compound. Surprisingly, the Tc chemistry with such NHCs does not resemble that of corresponding Re complexes, where CH activation and orthometalation dominate.

Both Fe³⁺ and Cu²⁺, potential contaminants in Gallium-68 generator eluent, substantially reduce the radiochemical (RC) yield of [⁶⁸Ga(DOTATATE)] if the metal/ligand ratio of 1:1 is exceeded. A variety of compounds were examined for their potential ability to reduce this effect. Most had no effect on RC yield. However, addition of phosphate diminished the influence of Fe³⁺ by likely forming an insoluble iron salt. Addition of ascorbic acid reduced Cu²⁺ and Fe³⁺ to Cu⁺ and Fe²⁺ respectively, both of which have limited impact on RC yields. At low ligand amounts (5 nmol DOTATATE), the addition of 30 nmol phosphate (0.19 mM) increased the tolerance of Fe3⁺ from 4 nmol to 10 nmol (0.06 mM), while the addition of ascorbic acid allowed high RC yields (>95%) in the presence of 40 nmol Fe³⁺ (0.25 mM) and 100 nmol Cu²⁺ (0.63 mM). The effect of ascorbic acid was highly pH-dependant, and gave optimal results at pH 3.

The monoanionic NNS ligands bind in a facial coordination mode and can readily be modified at the (CS)NR1R2 moiety. The complexes [99Tc(CO)3(LPyMor)] and [Re(CO)3(L)] (L = LPyMor, LPyEt) were characterized by X-ray diffraction. Reactions of [99mTc(CO)3(H2O)3]+ with the N′-thiocarbamoylpicolylbenzamidines give the corresponding 99mTc complexes. The ester group in HLPyCOOEt allows linkage between biomolecules and the metal core.

Compounds of the compositions [ReOCl3(PPh3){C(Ph)C(H)(PPh3)}] (1), [ReOBr3(OPPh3){C(Ph)C(H)(PPh3)}] (2), and [ReOBr3(OPPh3){C(H)C(Ph)(PPh3)}] (3) were isolated and characterized by X-ray diffraction. They contain a ligand, which was formed by a nucleophilic attack of released PPh3 at coordinated phenylacetylene. The structures of the products show that there is no preferable position for this attack. Cleavage of the Re–C bond in 3 and dimerization of the organic ligand resulted in the formation of the [{(PPh3)(H)CC(Ph)}2]2+ cation, which crystallized as its [(ReOBr4)(OReO3)]2– salt.

N2  - Für die Approximation stetiger, 2π-periodischer Funktionen auf der reellen Achse durch trigonometrische Polynome wurde ein direkter Satz von D. Jackson 1911 [8] und die Umkehrung von S. N. Bernstein 1912 [1] bewiesen und die Ergebnisse von A. Zygmund [25] 1945 verallgemeinert. 1949 stellte M. Zamansky [25] eine Beziehung zwischen der Approximationsordnung und dem Wachstum bezϋglich n der Ableitungen der Approximationspolynome her; auf die Approximationsordnung für die Ableitungen der Funktion schloβ S. B. Steckin 1951.
Die Umkehrung des Ergebnisses von M. Zamansky bewies G. Sunouchi 1968 [21,22], womit die Aquivalenz aller Aussagen gezeigt ist.
Die Übertragung der Ergebnisse auf Approximationsoperatoren in Banachräumen stammt von K. Scherer und P. L. Butzer [3, 4], wobei gewisse Voraussetzungen an die Operatorfolge (eine verallgemeinerte Bernsteinsche Ungleichung und eine sogenannte Jacksonsche Ungleichung) gestellt werden. An die Stelle der strukturellen Eigenschaften der Funktion, die durch das Verhalten des Stetigkeitsmoduls der Funktion charakterisiert werden, treten in allgemeinen Banachräumen Eigenschaften des von J. Peetre [17] eingefϋhrten K-Funktionals.
In dieser Arbeit wird die Approximation von Funktionen, die auf der Einheitskugel Sᵏ im Rᵏ definiert sind, durch Linearkombinationen von Kugelfunktionen untersucht. Es wird für diesen Fall eine Bernstein-Ungleichung und die Jackson-Ungleichung bewiesen, wenn man die Ableitung durch den Laplace-Operator auf Sᵏ ersetzt. Damit ist der oben zitierte allgemeine Satz von Butzer-Scherer anwendbar. Weiter kann man hier an Stelle des K-Funktionals einen verallgemeinerten Stetigkeitsmodul setzen. Anschlieβend wird der Spezialfall der zonalen Funktionen und ihre Approximation durch algebraische Polynome untersucht.

Zunächst wird die Theorie der besten Approximation auf der Kugel, also die Erweiterung der Sätze von D. Jackson und S. Bernstein, skizziert. Nimmt man nun spezielle Verfahren zur Summation von Laplace-Reihen, dann lassen sich auch hier Sätze vom Jacksonschen und Bernsteinschen Typ beweisen. Darüber hinaus zeigen viele Verfahren ein Saturationsverhalten, d.h. es gibt eine nur vom Verfahren abhängige optimale Approximationsordnung. Das Saturationsproblem besteht nun darin, diejenige Klasse von Funktionen (Saturationsklasse) zu bestimmen, welche genau von der optimalen Ordnung approximiert werden.

N2  - GHEtool is a Python package that contains all the functionalities needed to deal with borefield design. It is developed for both researchers and practitioners. The core of this package is the automated sizing of borefield under different conditions. The sizing of a borefield is typically slow due to the high complexity of the mathematical background. Because this tool has a lot of precalculated data, GHEtool can size a borefield in the order of tenths of milliseconds. This sizing typically takes the order of minutes. Therefore, this tool is suited for being implemented in typical workflows where iterations are required. 

GHEtool also comes with a graphical user interface (GUI). This GUI is prebuilt as an exe-file because this provides access to all the functionalities without coding. N2  - The scientific interest for near-Earth asteroids as well as the interest in potentially hazardous asteroids from the perspective of planetary defense led the space community to focus on near-Earth asteroid mission studies. A multiple near-Earth asteroid rendezvous mission with close-up observations of several objects can help to improve the characterization of these asteroids. This work explores the design of a solar-sail spacecraft for such a mission, focusing on the search of possible sequences of encounters and the trajectory optimization. This is done in two sequential steps: a sequence search by means of a simplified trajectory model and a set of heuristic rules based on astrodynamics, and a subsequent optimization phase. A shape-based approach for solar sailing has been developed and is used for the first phase. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through a fully optimized multiple near-Earth asteroid rendezvous mission. The results show that it is possible to visit five near-Earth asteroids within 10 years with near-term solar-sail technology.

N2  - The scientific interest in near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) and the classification of some of those as potentially hazardous asteroid for the Earth stipulated the interest in NEA exploration. Close-up observations of these objects will increase drastically our knowledge about the overall NEA population. For this reason, a multiple NEA rendezvous mission through solar sailing is investigated, taking advantage of the propellantless nature of this groundbreaking propulsion technology. Considering a spacecraft based on the DLR/ESA Gossamer technology, this work focuses on the search of possible sequences of NEA encounters. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated through a number of fully-optimized trajectories. The results show that it is possible to visit five NEAs within 10 years with near-term solar-sail technology. Moreover, a study on a reduced NEA database demonstrates the reliability of the approach used, showing that 58% of the sequences found with an approximated trajectory model can be converted into real solar-sail trajectories. Lastly, this second study shows the effectiveness of the proposed automatic optimization algorithm, which is able to find solutions for a large number of mission scenarios without any input required from the user.

N2  - In proton therapy, the dose from secondary neutrons to the patient can contribute to side effects and the creation of secondary cancer. A simple and fast detection system to distinguish between dose from protons and neutrons both in pretreatment verification as well as potentially in vivo monitoring is needed to minimize dose from secondary neutrons. Two 3 mm long, 1 mm diameter organic scintillators were tested for candidacy to be used in a proton–neutron discrimination detector. The SCSF-3HF (1500) scintillating fibre (Kuraray Co. Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan) and EJ-260 plastic scintillator (Eljen Technology, Sweetwater, TX, USA) were irradiated at the TRIUMF Neutron Facility and the Proton Therapy Research Centre. In the proton beam, we compared the raw Bragg peak and spread-out Bragg peak response to the industry standard Markus chamber detector. Both scintillator sensors exhibited quenching at high LET in the Bragg peak, presenting a peak-to-entrance ratio of 2.59 for the EJ-260 and 2.63 for the SCSF-3HF fibre, compared to 3.70 for the Markus chamber. The SCSF-3HF sensor demonstrated 1.3 times the sensitivity to protons and 3 times the sensitivity to neutrons as compared to the EJ-260 sensor. Combined with our equations relating neutron and proton contributions to dose during proton irradiations, and the application of Birks’ quenching correction, these fibres provide valid candidates for inexpensive and replicable proton-neutron discrimination detectors

N2  - In der vorliegenden Dissertation werden zunächst die linear elastischen Bemessungsmöglichkeiten für nachgiebig verbundene Biegeträger unter statischer und dynamischer Beanspruchung diskutiert. Zum Vergleich wurden praktische Untersuchungen an zweiteiligen Kantholzbiegeträgem mit mechanischen Verbindungsmitteln unterschiedlicher Verformungscharakteristika durchgeführt, ebenso wie umfangreiche Materialprüfungen an den zusammengefügten Einzelquerschnitten. Hierdurch werden die Unterschiede zum realen, nicht elastischen, statischen Tragverhalten aufgezeigt. Der für das dynamische Verhalten maßgebende Systemparameter der Eigenfrequenz wird für mehrteilige Biegeträger theoretisch hinterfragt und an den nachgiebig verbundenen Kantholzbiegeträgem gemessen. Begleitet von weiteren praktischen Untersuchungen an einzelnen Verbindungsmitteln unter Blockscherbeanspruchung wird die rechnerische Berücksichtigung des plastischen Verbindungsmittelverhaltens auf zwei theoretischen Wegen erforscht. Auf Grundlage der Untersuchungen wird ein neues, semianalytisches y-Verfahren entwickelt. Gegenüber den Berechnungen mit finiten Volumen- und Kontakt-Elementen erweist sich das neue Verfahren auf Basis der, um die schubweichen Fugen erweiterten, Balkentheorie als leistungsfähiger. Der Einfluss des plastischen Verbindungsmittelverhaltens wird durch vergleichende Parameterstudien mit diesem neuen Verfahren als vom anerkannten Stand der Technik ausreichend berücksichtigt identifiziert. Für die linear elastische Dimensionierung werden optimierte Verbindungsmittelanordnungen hergeleitet, die durch übersichtliche Ergänzungen zum existierenden Bemessungskonzept des y-Verfahrens eine exaktere Berechnung ermöglichen.

N2  - The first and last mile of a railway journey, in both freight and transit applications, constitutes a high effort and is either non-productive (e.g. in the case of depot operations) or highly inefficient (e.g. in industrial railways). These parts are typically managed on-sight, i.e. with no signalling and train protection systems ensuring the freedom of movement. This is possible due to the rather short braking distances of individual vehicles and shunting consists. The present article analyses the braking behaviour of such shunting units. For this purpose, a dedicated model is developed. It is calibrated on published results of brake tests and validated against a high-definition model for low-speed applications. Based on this model, multiple simulations are executed to obtain a Monte Carlo simulation of the resulting braking distances. Based on the distribution properties and established safety levels, the risk of exceeding certain braking distances is evaluated and maximum braking distances are derived. Together with certain parameters of the system, these can serve in the design and safety assessment of driver assistance systems and automation of these processes.

N2  - Schienenverkehrssysteme stehen in zunehmendem Wettbewerb, sowohl untereinander als auch mit anderen Verkehrsträgern. Als wichtiger Aspekt zur Steigerung der Kosteneffizienz wird die Digitalisierung des Betriebs und der Fahrzeuge betrachtet. Über eine Prognose der Ausfallwahrscheinlichkeit bzw. Restlebensdauer von Subsystemen können mittels Digitalisierung die Instandhaltungskosten gesenkt werden. Die geringen Fehlerraten im System Bahn machen die Nutzung besonderer Simulationstechniken notwendig. In diesem Beitrag wird gezeigt, wie sich die Subsystemverfügbarkeit aus den beobachteten Fehlerraten der Teilfunktionen vorhersagen lässt.
