N2  - This paper addresses the pixel based recognition of 3D objects with bidirectional associative memories. Computational power and memory requirements for this approach are identified and compared to the performance of current computer architectures by benchmarking different processors. It is shown, that the performance of special purpose hardware, like neurocomputers, is between one and two orders of magnitude higher than the performance of mainstream hardware. On the other hand, the calculation of small neural networks is performed more efficiently on mainstream processors. Based on these results a novel concept is developed, which is tailored for the efficient calculation of bidirectional associative memories. The computational efficiency is further enhanced by the application of algorithms and storage techniques which are matched to characteristics of the application at hand.

Als Schritt zum Übergang ins digitale Multimedia-Zeitalter werden die hochwertigen und damit schnellen digitalen Zugangstechnologien und die Individualisierung von Diensten immer wichtiger. Die Multimedia-Dienste bieten diverse Dienstleistungen, die mit Hilfe eines einfachen Modells, bestehend aus Mittlerplattform und Architektur, beschrieben werden können. Die Dienste haben charakteristische Funktionen und Aufgaben, die über mehrere Server, unterschiedliche Endgeräte und diverse Zugangswege bereitgestellt werden. Eine wichtige Basis stellen die Standards, z. B. DAVIC und DVB, dar. Erste grundlegende Erfahrungen aus Piloten bilden die Basis für den Betrieb der Multimedia-Dienste und interaktiven Kommunikationsdienste. Über die oben beschriebene Technologie hinaus könnten für den Betrieb von Multimedia-Plattformen weitere Aspekte, wie die universelle Kommunikationsplattform XAPI, die bestehenden Dienstekonzepte des Intelligenten Netzes und die Ganzheitlichkeit der Chaostheorie, einen wichtigen Einfluß ausüben. Einen zweiten Schritt ins digitale Multimediazeitalter stellt die Integration ins gesellschaftliche Leben dar. Die Angebote von Multimedia-Diensten in Deutschland unterliegen Einflüssen, die aus den Bundesländern, der Bundesregierung, der Europäischen Union und Internationalen Abkommen hervortreten. Durch medienpolitische Zielstellungen werden gesetzliche Rahmen definiert, was sich zwangsläufig auf die Wirtschaftlichkeit von Multimedia-Diensten auswirkt. Unter die wirtschaftlichen Aspekte fallen die Kundengruppen, die Branchen und deren Produkte und Dienstleistungen. Die wichtigsten rechtlichen Grundlagen sind das Telekommunikations-, Informations- und Kommunikationsgesetz, Landesmedien- und Urheberrecht, diverse andere Gesetze und das Lizenzrecht. Die medienpolitischen Aktivitäten einzelner Unternehmen in Deutschland werden von den Verflechtungen der Medienunternehmen, dem Machtkampf um Fernsehinhalte und deren Rechten sowie den wichtigsten Unternehmen mit ihren Produkten und Dienstleistungen bestimmt. Ausgehend von der Problematisierung werden drei Lösungen entwickelt. Die universellen Kommunikationsplattformen XAPI und das Intelligente Netz IN schaffen neue Konzepte, die in eine technisch-betriebliche Lösung – das Dienstmanagement - einfließen. Der Kunde benötigt ein Dienstangebot für die Nutzung von Multimedia-Diensten. Die Grundlagen der kundenorientierten Lösung - Dienstangebot - bilden die vertrieblichen und interdisziplinären Probleme aus dem Kapitel „Problematisierung“. Mit der Chaostheorie ist eine Betrachtung der Ganzheitlichkeit möglich. Ein Teilaspekt der gesellschaftlichen Belange - die ökonomischen Entwicklung - kann mit Hilfe einer ökonomischen Lösung – der Gesamtheitlichkeit - dargestellt werden. Der Begriff ”Multimedia-Dienst” sagt schon aus, daß eigentlich alle und alles betrachtet werden kann. Alle Entwicklungen und Konzepte können in ein Gesamtkonzept einfließen und diese neu prägen. Es kann daher nur ein Ausschnitt der zu erwartenden Problemen aufzeigt werden. Die vorliegende Arbeit kann für die Beteiligten aus Technik, Wirtschaft, Recht und Politik eine Fülle von Fragestellungen beantworten und Anforderungen transparent darstellen, um frühzeitig geeignete Instrumente zum Betrieb, zur Wertschöpfung und zur gesellschaftlichen Kontrolle der digitalen Multimedia-Dienste festzulegen und andererseits den potentiellen Anbietern Planungssicherheit für den Einstieg in die neuen Märkte zu geben.

N2  - This paper addresses the pixel based classification of three dimensional objects from arbitrary views. To perform this task a coding strategy, inspired by the biological model of human vision, for pixel data is described. The coding strategy ensures that the input data is invariant against shift, scale and rotation of the object in the input domain. The image data is used as input to a class of self organizing neural networks, the Kohonen-maps or self-organizing feature maps (SOFM). To verify this approach two test sets have been generated: the first set, consisting of artificially generated images, is used to examine the classification properties of the SOFMs; the second test set examines the clustering capabilities of the SOFM when real world image data is applied to the network after it has been preprocessed to be invariant against shift, scale and rotation. It is shown that the clustering capability of the SOFM is strongly dependant on the invariance coding of the images.

N2  - ε-Fe3N has been investigated by time-of-flight neutron diffraction (temperature range 4.2–618 K) and SQUID magnetometry (2–700 K, B≤5 T). A ferromagnetic spin structure is observed with magnetic moments oriented perpendicular to the c-axis of the hexagonal nuclear structure. The magnetic saturation moment of iron is 2.2 μB at 4.2 K from neutron diffraction and 2.0 μB from magnetic measurements and decreases in a Brillouin-like manner on heating to TC=575 K. Above 450 K an increasing but reversible disorder of the nitrogen partial structure is observed.

N2  - Aim of the AXON2 project (Adaptive Expert System for Object Recogniton using Neuml Networks) is the development of an object recognition system (ORS) capable of recognizing isolated 3d objects from arbitrary views. Commonly, classification is based on a single feature extracted from the original image. Here we present an architecture adapted from the Mixtures of Eaqerts algorithm which uses multiple neuml networks to integmte different features. During tmining each neural network specializes in a subset of objects or object views appropriate to the properties of the corresponding feature space. In recognition mode the system dynamically chooses the most relevant features and combines them with maximum eficiency. The remaining less relevant features arz not computed and do therefore not decelerate the-recognition process. Thus, the algorithm is well suited for ml-time applications.

N2  - This paper describes the realization of a novel neurocomputer which is based on the concepts of a coprocessor. In contrast to existing neurocomputers the main interest was the realization of a scalable, flexible system, which is capable of computing neural networks of arbitrary topology and scale, with full independence of special hardware from the software's point of view. On the other hand, computational power should be added, whenever needed and flexibly adapted to the requirements of the application. Hardware independence is achieved by a run time system which is capable of using all available computing power, including multiple host CPUs and an arbitrary number of neural coprocessors autonomously. The realization of arbitrary neural topologies is provided through the implementation of the elementary operations which can be found in most neural topologies.

(15 S. ) Die Multimedia-Dienste erhalten durch die Datenreduktion bei der Kompressionstechnologie eine Wirtschaftlichkeit, die den breiteren Einsatz von breitbandigen Diensten erlaubt. Die Dienste benötigen für die verschiedenen Medien nicht mehr so große Übertragungs- und Speicherleistungen. Bei den entwickelten Verfahren, den so genannten MPEG-(Motion Picture Experts Group-)Standards, werden die Video- und Tonsignale in die digitale Ebene überführt und anschließend unrelevante Signalanteile entfernt. Der daraus resultierende Datenstrom benötigt weniger Bandbreite bei der Übertragung zum Endkunden. Die MPEG-Organisation wurde bereits im Jahre 1988 ins Leben gerufen und ist ein gemeinsames Gremium der beiden Organisationen ISO (International Standard Organization) und IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), welches sich mit der Standardisierung von Kodier- und Kompressionsverfahren für die digitalen Bild-, Video und Audioformate befasst. Mittlerweile sind vier wichtige Standards mit MPEG-1, MPEG-2 und MPEG-4 verabschiedet worden sowie mit MPEG-7 in Vorbereitung. Da die Grundlagen zu MPEG-1, -2 und -Audio bereits in anderen Beiträgen behandelt wurden, werden hier ausschließlich die neuen bzw. aktuellen MPEG-Standards vorgestellt.

Ist unsere wissenschaftliche Sichtweise falsch, alle Vorgänge des Kosmos auf die Basis der Ordnung abzubilden? – Nein. Mit Chaos ist nicht Fehlen jeglicher Ordnung und völlig regelloses Durcheinander gemeint, sondern – auf Grund der Vernetztheit der vielen Elemente, die miteinander eine Wechselwirkung haben – die Unberechenbarkeit der Naturprozesse. Die Chaostheorie erlaubt durch die Modellierung weit auseinander liegende Problemfelder miteinander zu verknüpfen, um dann in einem Modell die Zusammenhänge erkennbar zu machen. Mit Hilfe der Chaostheorie werden gesellschaftliche Prozesse abgebildet und dann mit einer Simulation neue, globale Strategien erstellt, um kritische Systempunkte (Systemelemente) zu erkennen. Der nachfolgende Beitrag beschreibt die Modellierung am Beispiel der Multimedia-Dienste und gibt mit einem umfassenden Glossar eine Einführung in die Begrifflichkeiten der Chaostheorie. Die Chaostheorie ist die mathematisch-physikalische Theorie zur Beschreibung von Systemen, die zwar durch Gesetzmäßigkeiten determiniert sind, bei denen aber kleine Änderungen der Anfangsbedingungen ein exponentielles Anwachsen von Störungen bewirken. Das Verhalten derartiger Systeme führt zur Ausbildung chaotischer Strukturen und ist langfristig nicht vorhersagbar. Die Chaostheorie ist beispielsweise in der nichtlinearen Optik, bei chemischen Reaktionen und der Wettervorhersage anwendbar.
