Gardeene! Textile controls for the home environment (2016)
Heller, Florian ; Oßmann, Lukas ; Al-huda Hamdan, Nur ; Brauner, Philipp ; Van Heek, Julia ; Scheulen, Klaus ; Goßen, Laura ; Witsch, Rouven ; Möllering, Christian ; Gries, Thomas ; Ziefle, Martina ; Borchers, Jan
Textile controls so far, have mostly been envisioned to be integrated to clothing. In our environment, however, much more textile interaction surfaces are available. In this paper, we present a capacitive textile sensor, seamlessly integrated into a motorized curtain. While the basic functionality is simply to open and close the curtain, its design allows a much richer gestural interaction.
SMC-MuSe: A framework for Secure Multi-Party Computation on MultiSets (2013)
Neugebauer, Georg ; Meyer, Ulrike ; Wetzel, Susanne
Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMC) offers a theoretically well-founded means to allow applications that preserve their users' privacy. We introduce SMC-MuSe, a framework for Secure Multi-Party Computation on MultiSets, which enables the privacy-preserving computation of set operations on multisets. SMC-MuSe is targeted to provide for the efficient implementation of specific interesting functions rather than on computing arbitrary ones. It is generic in the sense that it allows to compute any composition of privacy-preserving set intersections, unions, and reductions on multisets. The system model used in SMC-MuSe is kept close to the one assumed in theory and supports asynchronous communications, resilient SMC computations, and fully-automated key management.
Proposing a Framework to address the Sustainable Development Goals (2023)
Schult, Prince Garcia ; Losse, Ann-Kathrin ; Czarnecki, Christian ; Sultanow, Eldar
Reducing poverty, protecting the planet, and improving life on earth for everyone are the essential goals of the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development"committed by the United Nations (UN). Achieving those goals will require technological innovation as well as their implementation in almost all areas of our business and day-to-day life. This paper proposes a high-level framework that collects and structures different uses cases addressing the goals defined by the UN. Hence, it contributes to the discussion by proposing technical innovations that can be used to achieve those goals. As an example, the goal "Climate Actionïs discussed in detail by describing use cases related to tackling biodiversity loss in order to conservate ecosystems.
Visual analytics for knowledge management (2023)
Vladova, Gergana ; Ullrich, André ; Sultanow, Eldar ; Tobolla, Marinho ; Sebrak, Sebastian ; Czarnecki, Christian ; Brockmann, Carsten
The management of knowledge in organizations considers both established long-term processes and cooperation in agile project teams. Since knowledge can be both tacit and explicit, its transfer from the individual to the organizational knowledge base poses a challenge in organizations. This challenge increases when the fluctuation of knowledge carriers is exceptionally high. Especially in large projects in which external consultants are involved, there is a risk that critical, company-relevant knowledge generated in the project will leave the company with the external knowledge carrier and thus be lost. In this paper, we show the advantages of an early warning system for knowledge management to avoid this loss. In particular, the potential of visual analytics in the context of knowledge management systems is presented and discussed. We present a project for the development of a business-critical software system and discuss the first implementations and results.
Entwicklung einer Open-Data-Referenzarchitektur für die Luftfahrtindustrie (2022)
Losse, Ann-Kathrin ; Gehrke, Melanie ; Ullrich, André ; Czarnecki, Christian ; Sultanow, Eldar ; Breithaupt, Carsten ; Koch, Christian
Elsen, Ingo ; Hawari, Asma ; Johnen, Uwe
Elsen, Ingo ; Schmalzbauer, Michael
Development of a subject-oriented reference process model for the telecommunications industry (2016)
Nursinski-Stolberg, André ; Gangatharan, Kiritharan ; Czarnecki, Christian
Generally the usage of reference models can be structured top-down or bottom-up. The practical need of agile change and flexible organizational implementation requires a consistent mapping to an operational level. In this context, well-established reference process models are typically structured top-down. The subject-oriented Business Process Management (sBPM) offers a modeling concept that is structured bottom-up and concentrates on the process actors on an operational level. This paper applies sBPM to the enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM), a well-accepted reference process model in the telecommunications industry. The resulting design artifact is a concrete example for a combination of a bottom-up and top-down developed reference model. The results are evaluated and confirmed in practical context through the involvement of the industry body TMForum.
Is a progressive web app an alternative for native app development? (2021)
Diekmann, Julian ; Eggert, Mathias
The existence of several mobile operating systems, such as Android and iOS, is a challenge for developers because the individual platforms are not compatible with each other and require separate app developments. For this reason, cross-platform approaches have become popular but lack in cloning the native behavior of the different operating systems. Out of the plenty cross-platform approaches, the progressive web app (PWA) approach is perceived as promising but needs further investigation. Therefore, the paper at hand aims at investigating whether PWAs are a suitable alternative for native apps by developing a PWA clone of an existing app. Two surveys are conducted in which potential users test and evaluate the PWA prototype with regard to its usability. The survey results indicate that PWAs have great potential, but cannot be treated as a general alternative to native apps. For guiding developers when and how to use PWAs, four design guidelines for the development of PWA-based apps are derived based on the results.
